As part of my Forces marathon, I've begun a playthrough of Sonic Colors which wow, I have not touched in years.
Playing it again, it's pretty fun! Playing this, Unleashed, and Generations have actually made me really enjoy the Boost games!
Colors' controls seem to be a bit different from the Unleashed and Gens, but I like how it's made a bit more simpler so I could easily breeze through the 2D platforming sections. Speaking of which, I hear are pretty infamous and it seems Forces will through that same regarding its bland level design.
As much as I loathe Pontaff writing, Colors may be the only one where I actually don't mind it that much, only because they attempted to do what SEGA at the time stuck pretty fine, aside from Sonic's lame jokes....but Eggman and the Henchbots are a riot!
The mere fact that they didn't attempt to add any drama or blatant fan service with the cast are one of the reasons why Colors story is fine in my book.
Just a silly Sonic/Tails/Eggman Adventure which was alright.
I genuinely enjoyed Colors' story. It was a breath of fresh air, even with the corny jokes and terrible one-liners. That being said, Pontaff mucked up Generations big time, and Lost World was...interesting. I wouldn't say I hated LW's writing, but it was odd to see Tails so sassy.
I love Colors. The only zone I'd say I disliked was Starlight Carnival, which is a shame because it's the best looking one in the entire game. The whole thing is either automated or 2D, though, with the RARE occourance of a 3D portion.
I still love me some Sonic Colors nearly 7 years after it came out. The story didn't bother me really aside from the barrage of jokes but to me it gave a Saturday morning cartoon vibe which I really liked. Bonus points for Sonic and Tails' friendship shining.
My only complaint with Colors really is that it was too short and lacking in content. Otherwise the sights, sounds and gameplay was all enjoyable to me ?
