The thing is, there's not really any proof that actually confirms this or, in Hogfather's case, deny this, so I understand why people doubt the legitimacy of this and are more skeptical overall.

I don't even know what you're talking about, so how about a little less generalizing blame please

  2. Remember how Lost World's dialogue was totally different in Japanese?

Meet Japanese Forces, a Sonic that isn't quite as quick to jump to Butt Jokes and Awkward References.

Well would you look at that, "Tails has lost it" really is just shitty translation. kappa

To be fair, Tails definitely "lost it" in this game, even in this translation he's hopeless.

So in the English version Tails "lost it", but in the Japanese version Tails just disappears with no explanation, nor does anyone have any reaction when he comes back.

I can see the writing is just as good as ever.

ooooooooh that's a spicy tounge you got there Sonic.

  3. For the last few games this is what Sonic's personality has been. Anyone can tell you it's a pretty drastic change compared to how he was written before that point. You're probably right on Forces not being that much different in comparison though. After all, it's been demonstrated time and time again that the game isn't going to be too outstanding. Jason is definitely the worst of the VAs Sonic's had taking both voice and skill into account. His Sonic voice sounded too soft and humble and most of his performances were basically this. It dragged down Sonic's character in the storybook games quite a bit, just look at the ending to Secret Rings (Japanese vs. English).
  4. I'm saying the problem with Roger isn't his ability to act, but that his voice doesn't fit the character in the setting and situations that Forces is asking for, especially if Sonic Team is serious about appealing to the crowd that followed the adventure series. Mike Pollock is a great voice actor, but I don't think he'd make a good Amy or Charmy no matter how well he can say the lines. He might be a better actor than Drummond and Griffith, but Sonic Team could definitely do with a better voice when they get the opportunity. Again, I'd recommend looking over some of the Japanese performances if you need a comparison for what I mean.
  5. I like how you guys are assuming that these voice actors are the ones who wrote Sonic's lines. Drummond didn't write "Ah yeah this is happenin'" (In fact he didn't even get to see the context for the any of the lines he was given in SA1) or "Just a guy who loves adventure", and Roger didn't write any of the terrible jokes. Yes, Roger's got a lot of experience over Drummond, but that's not the problem. The problem here is the voice itself - you can be the most skilled voice actor in the world, but if you don't have a voice that matches up with the character being voiced then it doesn't matter. Shadow has the same problem - good actor, bad voice for the character. While the voice is great with the lazier personality of Boom Sonic, it's becoming clear that Roger's "How Do You Do Fellow Kids" Sonic voice doesn't work well coming out of the mouth of a more adventure-esque Sonic, and all we have to do to see this is compare it to Kanemaru's Japanese performances or the way Drummond handled the cheesier lines of SA2 and Heroes.
  6. I feel like there's going to be this contest between Boom Sonic, Coldsteel and Sonichu.
  7. Most of them ain't bad but good god is Roger hard to listen to sometimes. Drummond wasn't great for the first few years, but after improving he was the closest we ever got to an English version of the Japanese Sonic. As it stands now, it feels like the English and Japanese Sonics are entirely different characters. They shouldn't have replaced Sonic's voice twice for no reason in the first place if you ask me, because aside from the games feeling more consistent Kanemaru's performances have come out looking far better than Jason and Roger's combined. I'm not saying drag Drummond back after 13 years, but if they really want to start appealing to that SA2-type crowd now the least they can do is get someone who can pull off the same vibes in their performances that Kanemaru does/Drummond did back in SA2/Heroes, rather than... yeah, the Fellow Kids guy. If you want an example of better VAs, Tails has been great for the last few years - I really like his voice for this game. I think him and Pollock are the only ones in the current cast who match up well with their Japanese counterparts. Oh but yeah I agree that despite how Roger sucks at Modern Sonic, his voice is a lot better in Boom's context because he suits the personality of Boom Sonic more.
  8. Speaking of early Windy Valley: Unless that's something the recreation did, I think the paths are far too wide and empty. It causes the same "Tiny Sonic" problem that plagues 95% of 3D fan-stages, but despite that it does have quite a bit more freedom than the final version I guess. (Also I wish the camera wasn't so godawful in the recreation because you can't see ahead of you too well with how Sonic is centered all the time.) I'll agree that SA1 has the best examples of 3D Sonic level design though. There's way more alternate paths in that game compared to others in the series (Including SA2). It was only a few weeks ago I found out you could light dash a trail of rings in Red Mountain 1 to find a rocket that lets you skip the last mountain. That's not to say alternate paths are the only factor in good level design. In SA1 there's a lot of places where you can really learn how to invent your own shortcuts, like spindashing off the first bridge in Emerald Coast to get to the higher path sooner. In most later titles you never really feel like you're figuring this out and exploring for yourself - the games lay out all the paths for you.
  9. definitive 100% PROOF classic sonic = evil

  11. The SA1 intro is hype as fuck and I haven't seen anything like it since.

Adventure 1 and adventure 2 straight up had the best intros in this series to be honest.

@A cool hedgehog engineI like unleashed's intro too but it doesn't really reach the same amount of hype as the SA1 and SA2 did for me. Maybe its the nostalgia talking but having the butt rock music playing while seeing all the characters get introduced just makes me so much more excited.

  12. I can't wait for the SADX release
  13. FINALLY got into those Dreamcast Express discs!

I gave the E3 2000 trailer to my girlfriend, who put them in a video that you can see here:

I'll figure out what to do with the rest when I'm finishing ripping all 7 volumes. (I don't have Extra, but that's already available to begin with)
