Swiss reacted to Kaabiitorori in Super Mario 3D World (Wii-U) - It's the cat's meow!
Right, I am near 100% completion of this game, I am absolutely enjoying every single minute of it. It's about time I come in here and spread words about this wonderful game. I have heard how the level design is so great and fun to play with, how the controls and the characters are very well combined, how the game looks and sounds incredibly amazing, and how the multiplayer is extraordinary.

After experiencing the game myself, I can describe Super Mario 3D World as a therapy. A fun, entertaining therapy indeed.

The moment you insert the disc is like an invitation to the best treatment you can ever have. You pick your favourite character and you embark yourself on an adventure that you are ready and excited to discover. Every level you traverse through the game you are guaranteed to find many ways where you can experiment. You run and jump into enemies, collect coins and explore every place possible in the levels. Suit up with the Cat Suit, running and attacking enemies while climbing up into new places to discover. Use the Double Cherry to duplicate yourself and create such mayhem. You see a snowball and all what goes right through your mind is wanting to pick it up and throw it to the closest enemy you see, right in his face; you see a baseball, pick it up, and throw it at someone around you; you see Goombas ice skating in skating boots, and all you want to do is get in one of those and skate around; you see a football bomb, ready to be kicked and exploded. The game drops you all these wonderful items, expecting you to interact with all of them, inviting you to play with them, fool and goof around, make loads of mischief, all with the ultimate goal to put a smile on your face, or even crack up a laugh. And all while these levels never attempt to frustrate you, even when your character dies: you still want to keep the game running and to keep yourself entertained.

But the best part of the therapy comes when you share it with your friends. When all of your friends suit up on the Cat Suit, when they grab a snowball and decide to play a snowball fight with everyone (enemies and allies included), when you decide to play catch by grabbing a baseball and throw it to those who are by any chance dressed up with the Cat Suit, when everyone invade the screen with multiple copies of their characters due to the Double Cherry... any fun situation is possible with this game. Added up with eye-popping, bright and colourful graphics, and a wonderfully crafted soundtrack that will delight your ears.

At the end of this so-called therapy session called Super Mario 3D World, it left me with the sensation of feeling like a child once again: whenever I ran around and explored every corner of these levels, or transformed into Cat Mario, or picked up any object to throw at the enemies, I felt like I was thrown back to my childhood, where all I cared as a kid was to have loads of fun, where you wanted to share such enjoyment with your friends, and where you wanted to make the most of this entertainment while it lasts. Yet such throwback felt very familiar to me. I played no other than a Super Mario game: a game that's already part of an amazing line-up established since the NES days, and that I had the pleasure to be part of his legacy for more than 20 years. Whenever you pick up a Mario game, you already know where it's coming from, and 3D World is no exception.

And the responsible for bringing such brilliant therapy was all down to none other than Nintendo EAD Tokyo. All I can say is thank you for making it possible. =D

If Cranky Kong were on those keyrings he'd insist that they were made of only the finest quality materials, everything was better back in his day after all, not all this cheap cash-in rubbish us whippersnappers are used to getting now.

Yep, I beat you to it a page or so back we all bemoaned the lack of Cranky Kong!

And I doubt they'll do the banana promotion again, as cool as it was. Nintendo needs every penny they can get right now, and somehow I don't think a hoard of bananas is going to save them from their financial woes

The current topic of discussion is Miiverse on 3DS, and I asked why it matters. You don't have to antagonize me about it. Jesus Christ.

Thank you, that's all I wanted to know.

    Edit -

And for that matter, where the hell are you getting the console bullshit from? I didn't even mention the god damn Vita, or any other console at all!

I guess I'm just bitter that it only took her two games to become playable in a main series title when Waluigi's been a far more frequent character. Maybe only in spin-offs (if Kart counts as a spin-off) but still, he's been around for almost 15 years and Rosalina's been around for what, 6?

I can just seeing Waluigi having a great fighting style, is all!

Fair enough! I take back some of what I said then. I was only under the impression that it was their responsibility due to never having problems with receiving pre-order bonuses on time from other retailers on the odd occasion there's been any, it just always seems to be GAME that has left me disappointed in the past - but if it's Nintendo dropping the ball rather than GAME themselves, well, not a lot that can be done I guess! Here's hoping Ninty can be a bit more punctual with deliveries in the future.

Yeah, just reading back on the pre-order bonus issues I can echo what Jez is saying; it's down to Ninty not sending the required number of bonuses out (if any at all in some cases), not GAME. We only got 6 out of 27 treasure chests for Zelda! Apparently they get this problem with Nintendo a lot, at least recently anyway.

Nobody's asking for them to be exactly the same. There's a difference between complete irrelevancy and copying, right?

Apple and Google are vastly different competitors. Dreamworks and Disney. Samsung and Sony. Nintendo and SEGA in the 80's and 90's.

Nintendo owns a throng of the industries most iconic, beloved IPs. They've been around longer than any of their competitors. They have money sitting in their "war chest", do they not? It's so sad to see both fans and the god damn CEO settle for being the odd one out incapable of playing with the big kids.

Nintendo has the potential to hit extremely hard and be a massive force in the console space; this is the same company that's practically held a monopoly over gaming handhelds for over two decades. They just have to actually step into the ring and stop being so slow to react to the world around them.

If it makes any of you guys feel better, every copy of Knack I've been selling at work has been part of a PS4 bundle, which people have then instantly proceeded to remove from said bundle and trade-in towards something else. Seriously, we counted and we have over 50 pre-owned (yet still sealed) copies of Knack in our store.

The enthusiasm I'm getting from the (surprisingly many) 3D World customers at work far surpasses any enthusiasm not only for Knack, but for PS4 customers in general! That's good enough in my book.

Have you played 3D World? Be totally honest, I don't expect you to have because pretty much no one has a Wii U and it hasn't been out that long, and if fine if you haven't but I'm just curious what perspective you're talking from- what the game looks like or what it is.

I definitely think 3D World is more than what it seems, and this becomes apparent when you play it.

It'll never have the impact of Mario 64, yeah but that's a pretty "time and place" bottled lightning type game. It's definitely a better game than Mario 64 though. And in my opinion- Galaxy too. Although I'm sure people will disagree with me on that.

You're hung up on the "copy" thing. I don't disagree that everyone copied Super Mario 64- it was the first actually great 3D platformer, and we practically had two generations of games made in it's image.

But the reason it was copied isn't just because it was a good game- it was the right good game. The world had been floundering trying to make a 3D platformer and Nintendo descended and delivered unto us Mario. Laying the groundwork for an entire genre. I don't think they can do something like that again without inventing an entire new genre again. Even if you do see elements of Galaxy and NSMB's 4 player co op showing up in loads of other games.

But how exactly do you "copy" 3D Land anyway? I guess everyone might start making 4 player co-op 3D platformers but the good parts of that game can't easily be copied, namely the manic, endlessly fresh levels and gimmicks throughout the game.

And influence is important, ye, but when it comes to what I'd rather play I'd definietly choose 3D world over both Galaxy and SM64.

Galaxy 2 is way better than the second game from a "game" perspective. The only areas in falls short in are shallow areas like story presentation and having a 2 on the box instead of a 1. Literally everything else is better

Okay, glad to hear that then, I got worried for a second.
Nintendo's still capable. Eiji Aonuma is trying to change effing everything with the new Zelda, going by his ramblings. Mario 3D World is insanely impressive, and IMO an even better game than Galaxy ever was (although Galaxy had its higher points and qualities).

It all still stands on their marketing. They aren't trying to hype-train their stuff anymore; the reason everything hit so hard back then was because they made the buildup and watched it explode with acclaim just like everyone else does (perfect example, as stated before: Mario Galaxy). If Nintendo could stop marketing to the uncaring families busy with iPhones and Angry Birds and actually show that they have the goods to the gaming populace instead of expecting them to just go "oh look, Mario, lets buy it", then they'd go somewhere.

On topic of the console being all smooth and soft-colored nowadays compared to how Ninty used to be..

    ...

Yeah, I miss it. I miss Ninty being all red and black and grey and ATOMIC PURPLE/INDIGO and boxy designs instead of being so smooth and pale blue + monochrome, and I miss the funky designs and the translucent controllers. But I can get over it for a good console, just like I could get over a tripod controller for the N64, because holy hell Nintendo, what was that. LOL
