Hawkz got a reaction from Smock in Sonic being mute
Sonic's personality and attitude as depicted in the games, cartoons, comics and books pretty much sums up the argument for giving him a voice.

He's a hero who is so in love with himself he can't help but point that out and the easist way to go about it is to give him the power of speech.

It's been well established/heavily hinted that Sonic has always had a voice. As has been mentioned, hardware limitations at the time simply meant he couldn't have one. If we can count the comics, cartoons and book released at the time of the genesis games as remotely canon in some form, you can come to the conclusion he was always meant to speak because except for the games, at that time, he sure as hell was a blabber mouth. As for C Sonic in Generations, I honestly don't care if he is mute or not. Whatever enhances the story or the game (if they seem hell-bent on having an over arcing canon, that is). It doesn't bother me. It could go either way. I wouldn't be suprised if by the close of the game he utters words of some kind, however.

Mine is a internet approach to what all people call me off the net.

"Hawkes", which is my last name. Was thinking of changing it to "Hawk-Eye" because that's what my old head chef/mentor used to call me. Dude was like my 2nd dad.

But yes, so I took Hawkes, which looked too plain for the net, so I added a "Z' at the end and I swear, it was like the internet exploded with awesome.

And that is the origin of Hawkz, as boring and plaid as it sounds lol

    Sick lad.

You didn't really respond. You more or less agreed except for how I defined the character. And I'm sorry, but current (near end) Ed is smart. Ed WAS stupid and naiive in attaining his goal. I wouldn't agree that he has the most character development considering he hasn't has much of a personally development arc besides curling into the fetal position whenever someone mentions "Philosphers Stone" or "Honehiem". That's a cheap cop-out. Thats Sasuke spec character development. He hasn't changed since Day 1 besides his goals. My point still stands, it's a shounen archetype.

Once again, you didn't refute this makes it a shounen archetype. And the philosphers stone was a means to the end game, which is getting their bodies back. Which was the suppoesdly unattinable goal (in the FMA world anyways due to it being near impossible and taboo).

I disagree. So far in this whole story, everyones actions seem to affect the Elrics in someway, negatively or positvely. Might just be a coincidence, but every decision seems to progress the story of the elrics forward. Granted, the Elrics are the main focus of the story, but that was my point. Everything in the world affects them in some way, no matter what. I should have clarified it better. Characters in this show exists soley to propel the Elrics further into the story because everything falls back to them, which is the whole point of the show. It all falls back to them.

Once again, you did not refute my claim. It is still a shounen archetype, no matter which way you slice it.

I was reffering to Roy Mustang. He is the other hero we are supposed to root for in the show. He is the shows hero's rival, but not his enemy. Vegeta begun the show as a enemy, but became a rival in the Namek arc, which is 1/3 into the story. Again, you did not refute my claims.

That was kind of the idea. He is a relative of the hero, yes? He might not be a friend, but he is someone close to the main hero who has a motive for coming forward which MAY lead to the hero acting on this. (The show has not finished yet, we still don't know if Ed still has HoHo issues)

What about the mass genocide of the Sayaiins by Frieza? As far as I remember, Frieza was a Dictator who nuked an entire planet because the Sayaiins has expended their worthiness. Totally no symbolism or political metaphor there right? Not scary at all watching an entire planet get blown to smitherins while thousands of soldiers in space melt and blow to bits from a death ray created by a talking, speedo wearing lizard man, And what about Itachi, acting on the rulings of the Villages military leaders in Naruto? He slaughtered his entire clan. In front of his brother. And then tried to kill his brother. What nightmare fuel? What about Lord Genome, the once proud hero virtually halting the very existance of humans and forcing them to live underground? Dude, when your kid is 16, he isn't going to give 2 shits what you want him to watch anyways. If he is in Australia, he has access to it freely because 15 is the threashold for the good shit here in Oz.

Just because a current issue in modern times seems somewhat relative to a manga because of racial tensions doesn't make it so. That's your perception. There are plently of exmaples of it in any shounen manga. This was a foolish point to make. I didn't bring up Samurai X dude, you did. I agree, Samurai X is some hard shit to swallow for a kid considering it is a shounen series, but then again, you made my point for me without even realising. Just because that shit is violent and in your face doesn't mean it doesn't belong in a certain demographic. Cheers X3 Manga in general is perceived as a much more mature medium for storytelling. It's just that way. Harry Potter is about as in your face as FMA. And guess what, 10 year olds get into that shit.

I did see the mascare of Ishval, and I've seen it a million times before in tons of different Manga and Anime as I pointed out above. That shit isn't new to this scene. At all. Yes, I read the last chapter, yes I saw what happened to Mustang, yes, I saw what Father got his shit all up in. Yes I saw the world ending. No, I don't think it's radical. Yes, I have seen it before in countless other forms of media aimed at young kids. It's not that bad.

And I downloaded the Tengan Toppa movies off BSS the other day. They both end very differently, but they certainly do not lose that epic Gurren Lagann feeling of epic, win and awesomeness; all from the one show. I have only just discovered TTGL recently and holy shit was it a fun ride. Stupid, Silly, Epic, Action Packed and most of all, it was honest to goodness pure breed anime. It feels enthusiastic. It's so much fun to witness and you can get inspirational power form a show like that. And don't even get me started on whoever does the music. That is pure, unadultered AWESOME. You can tell just how worked up I am getting that this show is something very special, and if you haven't seen it yet, you need to get your ass onto it asap.

He carried that show to be honest. With Gauren out of the picture, they needed someone truly fucked up. You had controlled chaos with Gauren, so they bought in WTF IM INSANE chaos in with the german doucher. When he started breaking Lin Fan's teeth with his gun, that was a great scene. Really showed he was kind of a nut case haha

You will not be disappointed my friend. It is a very faithful and kick ass adaptation.

    BURN! haha

I would have to agree with this. Manga Mustang was the original intention of the manga creator, making him First Era Mustang.

And comapring Rambo to Mustang is like comparing a Plane to a Car. They are both very different things.

Hawkz got a reaction from Vertekins in Do you care about the storyline?
I'm one of those people who believ a good storyline can save a really bad game.

No referencing Sonic here, but case in point: "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed"

Great Story. Epic. Bombastic. Terrible gameplay. Glitchy. Buggy. Hard to control... the storyline really saved it though. I finished the game simply to find out what happened. Despite the game being almost sadistically frustrating at times (ala Sonic 06), I solidered on because the story was the one thing driving me to the finish line. Glad I did too because the canon ending was a hell of a lot more satisfying than the entire prequel trilogy movies combined.

A game more than a few hours long nowdays needs to have some kind of story to drive the gameplay. Sonic games have always had storylines. Bag guy over here, go on adventire and kick his ass. Simple.

I care greatly about a deep story. I don't care much for people that diss Sonic games because the story sucked. If you are bitching about a Sonic the Hedgehog story.... you obviously should be playing other games, you know? Get your ass in Yakuza, Half Life, GTA or Metal Gear if you want an epic story.

You can see it all as an over arcing plot from SA1 - Sonic 06. Mostly because the character of Shadow joins the dots from SA2 onwards. I'm glad they bought in a doppleganger for Sonic. He was what made SA2 win. Him merely being there and driving the story was what pushed the game into the above avergae section of Sonic stories.

I love Knuckles in the Death Egg saga. A rival for Sonic turned ally in simple terms was powerful stuff, even on 16 bit days. I have no care really if they introduce a new character for a new game. All likelyhood, they won't be back unless it's for a All Stars game. If it drives the story, no matter how dull, no biggie. It's fine with me.

A deep story where I start to care about the characters from Sonic would be great, nay it would be fantastic. I can see it being hard to integrate into the gameplay though. But a game where the characters actually have an emotional pitch or real personality (think Chip in a way) where they are in a situation where you believe it's dark days without reacting to armegeddon, I would be down for that.

You could even do it with Sonic 3 and Knuckles. It would be a risky venture, but you could easily make a great story game out of Sonic 3 and Knuckles without making it too preachy or cheesy. Minimalise the dialogue, make the character models emote with body language (like Night Of The Werehog) and start with an intensly mysterious Knuckles... Continue with Sonic and Tails overall quest to destroy the death egg. Start with the end of Sonic 2, segue into Sonic 3 and Knuckles end with them being friends. If you did it properly, it would be great. But this is more just be acting out ultimate fanboy fantasy #1 more than anything lol.

In any case, I am down for a good story in the Sonic games. Plot is a big issue for me when I buy a game. If I dont care about the story, I won't play it. And if Sonic manages to have a decent deep plot, I reckon the series can gain from it big time.
