  1. Another thing I want to give props to Yakuza for is how detailed and (dare I say) immersive its world is. This looks to be a pretty accurate (but still fictional) representation of Japan, and it’s neat being able to browse stores and just walk down the streets.

And then there’s the sheer amount of shit to do in it. Seriously this gives GTA a run for its money. Go bowling, play arcade games, sing karaoke, play board games, race RC cars, buy real estate, go fishing or, my personal favorite, bet at the catfight ring. Because it makes me a whole lot of money. No other reasons. I mean why else would I like watching a catfight?

What are you looking at me like that for?

I actually really don't like open world games unless they have something interesting in it like a character creator or something like that but the Yakuza games are really special in that regard. It feels alive; people are bothered by you running past them, you can actually do stuff in the city, and help people out on the street.

It really feels like its someone's passion project.

Yakuza hits that sweet spot for me in its immersive ways while still feeling like it's in an "open world" environment. Having okayed Shenmue prior to ever picking up a Yakuza game I can appreciate it more.

...Did you see Mr. Libido yet

I have uh...”experienced” Mr. Libido, yes.
