TheDuckGod reacted to Dreadknux in HAPPY 20TH ANNIVERSARY TSS/SSMB! Our Fondest Memories!
Hey everyone! This week it will be our 20th anniversary! How mad is that? Time really does fly, huh? I wanted to spend some time reminiscing about the good times we've had on this forum, over the two decades we've been around.

Please feel free to post in this topic with your fondest memories. I will list a few of mine, in no particular order...

    Sonic Battle Stadium
This was one of the first 'interactive' things I created to help drive the community and overall 'togetherness', and it was pretty popular at the time (2001). In fact the only reason it died really was because it required constant moderation and observation so people would pay attention to rules etc.
SSMB members created their own 'mighty warrior' who would take part in the specialised Sonic Battle Stadium forum where they'd battle others for rings (which you had to keep a note of, like you'd keep a note of your stats etc on a piece of paper during a DnD game). You set yourself as an elemental type, chose some moves (which you could name whatever but had to assign damage points out of a limited pool - bit like creating your character in Skyrim). To kick off a match, they would have to alert 'GrandMaster Dreadknux' to initiate a battle. And I'd oversee the proceedings and make sure it was fair.

It was a pretty cool mix of battling and online RPG creation - users wouldn't just list attacks that they'd make to their opponent, there'd be a whole backstory that they'd create for themselves. Things like, why they had beef with this other SSMB user (they never really had beef, it was mostly a roleplay thing), or during battles they'd give their attacks some written flair. And some really got into the 'lore', what little there was of it (members mostly created it for themselves).
Anyway, it lasted a full season (where the finale was a tournament to whittle down to one person who'd face GrandMaster Dreadknux himself...), before introducing a second season which wasn't as popular. I changed the rules around a bit and I think people just didn't get into it as much. I wonder if we could do something automated, we could kick something like this up again...

    SSMB Music Projects
It always amazes me how this community bands together to create some amazing content. The TSS Music project was like lightning in a bottle - several times over! And what's more, I really had nothing to do with it. A bunch of very talented SSMB'ers decided to club up and create the most KICK-ASS remix soundtrack the community had ever known...
And then they did it three more times! There's the Sonic Stadium Music Album 2011, the absolutely INSANE 2012 follow-up, as well as two more albums under the name The Sound of TSS. I'm extremely proud of how creative our fellow Sonic fans are, and am hyper-proud of these collaboration projects. Maybe one day there'll be another one... until then, I'll keep listening to all of these albums when I'm working on the site or forum.
    SSMB Sings...

I'm trying to figure out if you guys are all as good at singing as you are making remixes... we have a habit of making little collab pieces on SSMB, don't we? We did a Christmas sing-a-long one year, but my favourite is by far this rendition of Pumpkin Hill from Sonic Adventure 2. We all sang it even better than Hunnid-P, I reckon.

    10th Anniversary Banner Creation Contest
This was just too cool to not mention. You will have noticed that we restored a lot of classic banners on SSMB over the last few months, before settling on this new header for our Anniversary week. Well, a LOT of those classic banners were actually created by SSMB members. They wanted to club together to make a set of rotating banners to celebrate TSS' then-10th anniversary (boy, time really DOES fly!).
I'd love to do this again - when the new-look site TSS/SSMB comes rolling around, I'd love to kick off a community initiative like the good old days and have some collaborations once more.

That Time We Got Really into the Chuckle Brothers and Started Calling Each Other Barry or Paul or Something
I really don't remember that meme/trend, but I do remember it being weird. Mind you, it all kicked off because I have a habit of meme'ing the Chuckle Brothers into the Sonic Stadium when I get the chance (see April Fools gag above). So it's probably my own fault.

TheDuckGod reacted to SuperLink in Hyrule Warriors (Legend of Zelda and the Dynasty Warriors sittin' in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-N-G!)
I think one thing people have to keep in mind is that most of us were much younger or kids when we played a lot of the more Japanese Zelda games. Voices in OoT, WW, etc, didn't sound Japanese to us when we first played them because we weren't really aware of the concept of voices "sounding Japanese" in the first place.

My friend has been playing TP again recently. And he spoke to Agitha, and my god her voices and mannerisms are anime as fuck. Same goes for some of the NPCs in the N64 games. I never noticed it when I was younger, because I wasn't aware there was anything to notice.

But 3D Zeldas have always been pretty "Japanese" or "anime" or whatever. There's more of it in Hyrule Warriors, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's out of character or non-Zelda-y. There are just a lot more voice clips for attacking when in the past we've only had battle voice clips for Link which are actually really Japanese sounding to begin with. Again, probably people just don't notice it because they're so used to Link's voice, but if you play, say, King of Fighters, and play as Joe (who has the same VA as Link), it makes you realise how "Japanese" Link sounds :v

SOo what I'm trying to say I guess is that Hyrule Warriors is pretty in line with the rest of the Zelda series, it having more voice clips is just highlighting something about the series that's always been there. Imo.

She may be a bit too genkiesque but she fits in just fine, I don't know why people are having such a big problem with her. Especially as we have gotten worst character designs like the original fairy queen design and a cheerful witch isn't a terrible thing to have. Also commenting on someone earlier saying how serious the zelda series is....motherfucking tingle is enough to destroy that.

Plus her moveset looks fun as hell! It looks like it chains together really well, also if anime things aren't your thing why are you even looking at this game, a big part of it is pretty much influenced by ludicrous animeesque attack patterns.

TheDuckGod got a reaction from Jovahexeon Jax Joranvexeon in TRANSFORMERS!
I see Transformers and tokusatsu in the chit chat forum and I suddenly feel at home XD

I've been a TF fan ever since I was a little kid and had a two feature video of some G1 season 3 eps and Gi-Joe XD I even had G2 versions of Optimus and Megatron, the latter sits on my shelf, broken but still in one piece and I still have the old G2 soundbox from prime's trailer on my desk.

Though for a while I didn't really follow TFs, I only occasionally caught Beast Wars on channel 5 over here in the UK when I woke up early enough, it wasn't until Armada that I really got back into the fray, the animation was shit, but a new TF cartoon absolutely floored me with the rare instances of good animation in the final moments of the first episode where protoform prime and megs duke it out in front of the kids. It also the point at which I became a figure collector XD starting with Smokescreen who was the only bot left in an argos in hastings!

Over the last decade I've just been living it up TF wise, I've loved almost every iteration of TFs (except kissplayers and that godfucking awful excuse of a second film) and am currently adoring TF: Prime, it's like finally a show that utilises the essence of the TF comics, whilst I feel it gets a bit too dark at times for a kid's show it's nice to see a show that doesn't talk down to it's audience. Same with animated actually, despite a reallly cartoony style it was amazing and was a really good insight into the political side of cybertron and it's take on Optimus was reallly refreshing. The moment Megatron finally calls out Optimus Prime's full name truly felt like things had come to a conclusion.

Anyway back to Prime, I feel like this is a really special Megatron. He's actually pretty fearsome, I haven't seen a megatron this scary in, well ever. Previous Megatrons have been failures (G1) classy (Beast Wars) or Tactical (Animated) This Megatron however just has a really dark air about him, despite him being incapitated for a good portion of the series, his return actually instilled some fear into me. He's deranged and absolutely mental and seeing how he handled Starscream upon his return makes him out to be a rather fierce individual. And the thing is, he's not even feral despite his appearance, he's fairly intelligent and downright creepy, especially in Rock bottom when Jack comes face to face with him. Despite his obvious disadvantage he still managed to play with Jack Mentally as if he was always in control.

Seriously one of the best Megatron's yet, now all he needs to do is actually do something concrete XD but I'm hoping the final few eps of season 1 should provide that.

Ok... Sega hasn't done this yet (outside of Sonic Dash). But... can anyone see Sega actually having Extra lives as being microtransaction/dlc if they're actually having a 25 life DLC pack?
