I know it's not, but it almost feels like it's the end of Smash bros. to me.
-
-
I don't understand this. Is Smash to you so dependent on a small handful of people in the competitive scene that their true colours being exposed somehow takes away from the game?
The community and scene will recover without those people.
-
It's bigger than that. These were community figureheads that represented the scene. If they can't be trusted with the game's majority young playerbase, who can? How much of this do we only know about because the people involved are famous? Is it even responsible to continue to hold tournaments when it's this dangerous?
In addition, Nintendo is already starting to hide Nairo/competitive Smash related content from it's youtube channel and they're not the only sponsors that are pulling out right now. Smash as an Esport will lose a lot of financial backing that will affect everyone's livelyhoods, and it was already on thin ice before this.
-
I'm not sure one way or the other. Thing is, a lot of communities have come back from such places. Smash's general reach and appeal is unbelievably massive so I'm not certain that anything really can destroy it, not even this.
Like, I don't consider myself any sort of newbie when it comes to this series and its community. Yet, even I had to search up most of the names coming out today. Yes, some of them were figure heads, though I really do think some of overestimating their importance to the community as a whole.
That being said though, this is bad. I doubt any major company is going to sponsor any event even relating to Smash for the foreseeable future so it's really going to be up to the community to keep it going for a while. This will be a make or break moment for any viable competitive scene for it going forward.
If anything, this should serve as a real good wake up call for the fighting game community as a whole. Hopefully this leads to more filth being outed and for the scene to come back better for it.
Though, if one thing's for sure, Nintendo definitely ain't going to continue investing in the community, probably forever. From a business standpoint alone, I can't imagine that they're too happy with one of their biggest IPs making headlines like this atm. But then again, them being in on it as a whole is(was) still a relatively new thing in the community's history so it likely won't be the end all.
You know, unless they really legally start coming down on anything outside of them having to do with the series which, knowing them, is a complete possibility. Hell, they wouldn't even be in the wrong for it.
Again, a lot of this is up in the air.

Nintendo was right all along. Smash really should be seen as a casual party game. All of my time with this series, I was never in it for the fighting community. I was in for all the franchises featured in it. Like, my desire to play as Min Min has not been soured at all just because she dropped around the same time this happened or anything. At the end of the day, I still got what I've wanted.
And that's Nintendo wanted others to see this franchise as: A great big marketing device. It's not about the competition. It's about celebrating Nintendo's history and all the great titles and characters it had made, which then accended into being a celebration of gaming in general. To just pick up and play with your friends, nothing more.
I'm not against the competive nature being the reason why this thing is popular, and I apologize if what I believe may come at the expense of those who grew up being part of the community. But if Nintendo decides to stop making Smash games "For Glory" and only market them "For Fun", then I won't blame them whatsoever.

Honestly, this likely will NOT be the end of SMash in the mainstream by a long shot.
No, what this aught to be, will instead be more of a wakeup call to the Fighting Game Community as a whole. The competitive nature itself, is not the problem per say.
What we just have are a bunch of players being ousted as scum. Yes, they were players that people looked up to, but that alone is not enough to sink a community. You're kidding yourselves if you think that Smash or heck, any community is sunk this easily.

How do you does a production company make Doom Patrol & Stargirl, but also makes Titans?
-
Oh, so Mike Z likes to throw out the "thug" line. Guess that I can't breathe joke said more than originally thought.
-
Just beat Skies of Arcadia. That was a great game, with one hell of a finale!
I see why Simmon's gushes about it so often.
-
I'm really regretting not giving Skies of Arcadia more of a shot back in the day. I'm really enjoying it
-
Doing a playthrough of Skies of Arcadia for the first time. First thing I really appreciate is the dynamic boss music they have.
-
Kind of related but have you played Shining Resonance? Because something really bothers me about it.
The first town you get into in that game has BGM that sounds very similar to one of the towns in Skies. Its one of the first islands you visit and is that shopping outpost where you can do the bounties. I know they're both Sega games but hearing similar songs like that just throw me off. lol
Still though I do love Skies of Arcadia and I hope you enjoy it.

The fact that Trump's first rally since the pandemic got bodied so hard by teens and K-pop fans is giving me the most elated feelings right now.
-
-
That, I'm less happy about.

Cosmic Star Heroine doesn't reinvent the wheel or have the most clever writing, but there's something about it that make for an enjoyable experience.
-
Fuck. You. Marvel.

@Polkadi~☆ I mean there's two different ways of bad going on with them. Bad as in previously how the X-men were treated, which has been corrected and ushered in the most interesting point in the franchise. And bad as in what they're doing with X of Swords, which is really a Marvel comic's problem in general. We just had this with Absolute Carnage, and it was a lousy experience.
-
What I've heard with X-Men is that it's a serious archival panic, and good luck to anyone looking to get into the series. With X of Swords here showing that this storyline was cut up between several series instead of in one straight storyline, it's showing how much hell it is to get into the comics.
-
I'd argue it's been the easiest time to get into the X-men thanks to the reboot, but yeah this whole X of Swords thing is going to devour the line just for the sake of being another event. It's going to absolutely alienate potential new readers, and probably current readers that jus focus on a book or two.

With school over until fall term I've finally got time to playthrough my Kickstarter backlog. Hyper Light Drifter is done, now on to Cosmic Star Heroine.
-
Wonder if Miles will team up with the Rhino in the game? Yeah, it happened.
-
If there's even some inspiration from the Saladin run I'll be really happy.

On the day of the Pulse shooting. This is after he announced he was having his first rally in the place where a brutal massacre of black people occurred. This shit is deliberate, and you’re fooling yourself if you argue it’s all “convenience”-

That Inhuman's show only makes me more angry over time.
-
-
@Dejimon11 Yeah that too, but with the Defenders my anger is eclipsed by my disappointment. I mean at least it didn't switch around the races of the main cast and have it feel like they were racist caracatures. I mean look at this:
They made a black guy, a big strong meat head that's part animal and temperamental. That's like old ass Hollywood racism on full display. I think he even dies in the story too at some point.
And then there's Karnak... They made the weird wise uptight martial artist of the family Asian...
I'd say someone should've caught this but the head of Marvel TV is, well,
Yeah...
-
-
Fun fact, this is the main universe Miles Morales:
Yes, really.
-
-
-
@Dejimon11 He's the product of Brian Bendis. This guy was created and removed in a single story arc where Bendis tried to retcon the Ultimate universe didn't die.
But now he's returned rocking tech from the Ultimate Universe and now he's targeting other Ultimate universe natives, Miles and his family.

@Balding Spider I'm turning to dust

Oh it's the Lizard Cube Alex Kidd remake? Been a minute since they talked about it.
-
-
@Tracker_TD Yeah I got them confused with Jankenteam & Merge's work. Guess the early development really reminded me of Lizard Cubes games.
-
-
Uh, so how long has it been since you've seen someone mention RE:3 Remake? Cause it's been a minute from my end.

Anyone else forget about the death bees and locust swarms we got to deal with?

It's one on top of the numerous other terrible things happening in the world that I have to juggle in my mind.

kinda yeah

The bees? Nah its something the media is hyping for no reason when its something not bound to happen.
Locusts aren't anything new however but its more of a threat than the bees.
