I always felt that way towards the game myself, though I haven't played it yet. I'm hoping the gameplay is fun enough to hold up when I get the game, because the soundtrack is really beautiful and I want to experience the whole thing.
Not really, Greg- the soundtrack's great. It's the pre-rendered look making everything look brownish and very dark due to the shades immediately dropping to black. For the record, as a kid I refused to watch Transformers for the same reason.
also if there's any series I've ever felt deserving of the monicker "X's shitty friends" it's this one, but that's something for another day. point is, I really don't like Nintendo's attempts at pre-rendered games (Super Mario RPG included)
The difference between Sonic's friends and Donkey Kong's friends is Donkey Kong's friends weren't meant to be taken at face value. They're supposed to be dumb, that's the game's type of humour. This type of humour was also used in Banjo-Kazooie.
I think he was referring to characters like Candy, who pretty much exist as satirical takes on overused character archetypes. Ironic that Tiny became the very thing Candy was satirizing when Nintendo sold Rare and redesigned Tiny.
I was talking about stuff like "Kiddie Kong" or, in a way, Diddy and Dixie in the sense that Donkey Kong Country games became about them instead of, well, Donkey Kong; but really, stuff like the Kongs in 64 and whatnot.
Then again, I like the Kongs in Jungle Beat so I'm sure that automatically means my opinion's worth nothing :V Amusingly, XD, just saw you post on DKVine and was like "I recognize that username from somewhere"
