I'm asking more literally- I wasn't really trying with this sketch, this is just the layouts of GHZ, EHZ, and AIZ mashed up

    4. The KKM

      The KKM

or more correctly, the very very beginning of each of the layouts mashed in

I'm theorizing that you could do something like this as a test level for a sonic 3d game- imagine in each line, the layout of the original level following it, the bends turning it from a bidimensional layout to tridimensional http://i.imgur.com/Jzji4ri.png

also something interesting to note: an interview with hirokazu yasuhara (game director of sonic 1, 2, 3&K as well as senior level designer) mentioned that when he designed levels for sonic, he usually did it in a 3D mindset (even though the games were 2D): http://info.sonicretro.org/Hirokazu_Yasuhara_interview_by_Gamasutra_(August_25,_2008)

you can actually see that in the stuff he did for x-treme

i know and it's the coolest thing

aside from sonic r it's practically the closest thing we had to classic sonic level design in 3D

i guess that's why sonic r and his concepts for sonic x-treme fascinate me so much :D
