I took two days off of work on the 22nd and 23rd. Both to adequately prep myself and for the aftershock of either pure bliss or pure disappointment.
I'll be ordering 2 pounds of chicken wings and drinking a stout like a mofo.
Currently lifting iron so the hole I punch in the wall from excitement/disappointment for Sonic 2017 will have meaning

I mean... what did they expect? The reason EU funding was so necessary in Wales in the first place is that the Tories have actively been destroying Wales or ignoring it since the 80's.

Give me Sonic Unleashed 2, where instead of a Werehog you have my boi Knucks, or give me death.
A Sonic and Shadow game writes itself, which is sort of a problem actually - 'oh, you have the freewheeling goofball and then the overly serious businesslike grouch, wonder what they'll learn about each other?' - and it would not be high up my list.
I think Mik's reasoning was less 'I can't move for all these Sonic and Blaze games' and more 'Blaze is the only other sidekick who has been playable with Sonic more than once.'

There aren't many nations, dignitaries and foreign institutions that BoJo hasn't insulted, which of course is a great basis for being the minister to deal with foreign nations, dignitaries, and institutions. I was joking when I said we're going to war, in case that wasn't clear, but it's still a disastrous appointment. Newsreaders and The White House responded to the news with stifled laughter, which should tell you something.

    Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary?
I know that she probably just wants to heal the party following the positively Shakespearean display of backstabbing we witnessed following the referendum, but... is this some sort of monumental exercise in trolling? For the Americans of the board who aren't sure what this means, this is like if you had a President John Kasich (a conservative leader who isn't too wildly bathshit nuts), appointing Donald Trump as Secretary of State.

The whole 'one button' thing in Sonic as a whole is just dreadful. Why on earth did SEGA map somersault and the lightspeed dash to the same button in SA2, it's such a run-killer.
Sonic 3 has a load of 'gotcha' enemies that will hurt you if you dare run fast in some zones, coming in just off the screen. Not cool. Speaking of Sonic 3, the length of the levels is an issue - Carnival Night Act 2 seems to take an absolute age to complete. Blue Spheres can suck it.
Unleashed has the Werehog, obviously, but the over-reliance on QTEs that punish you with death as a shortcut to 'increased difficulty' is pretty lamentable in the late game. I suck at QTEs for some reason, so Tornado Defence is pretty much my definition of a bad time. But Eggmanland starts off with an 8 button sequence, and if you fail, you die!
SA1 - the lightspeed dash is pretty much useless due to its revving up time. I much prefer the instant version in SA2. There's also repetition - beating Chaos 4 three times, doing Sky Chase 4 times, that sort of thing. In the most nitpicky of nitpicks, I kinda dislike how much slap bass is on the soundtrack. And the vocals on Bigs theme are a bit off key at points.

The "worst" of the classic games does not intrinsically make it "bad."  Sonic Colors was the "worst" of the boost trilogy (in my opinion alone), but it's still a fine game in its own right.  It just fails to grip me on quite the same level that both Unleashed and Generations managed to.
It's true that level design is a large part of a Sonic game, and indeed pretty much every game ever made, but it is still only one factor, and it's far from even the worst level design I've ever seen from a Sonic game.  It still controls superbly well, minus the clunky Spin Dash in the pre-2011 versions, but that only becomes a nagging problem in one area of the game, it still has a great visual presentation and two beautiful soundtracks.  It's still up there with the rest of the classic games, but simply falls just short of where the others excel.

The countries really been on a rightwing slide since the 80's, tho - Blair was a Thatcher-lite, although with left leaning tendencies such as the minimum wage and making peace with Northern Ireland instead of going to war with it. But he was very pro-business which lead to the 2008 crash and felt the need to have a war (which, unlike Maggie, completely fucked the world as we know it). They aren't completely dissimilar.
I mean, lots of things that the Tories did in the last 6 years we're going to struggle to get back - privatised national services, slashed budgets leading to cut services. And there's more subtle, ingrained things, like a need to be 'tough on immigration', somehow convincing the nation that austerity was necessary, demonising the poor, etc. If Brexits told us anything, it's that outside of the liberal bubbles we're a fundamentally rightwing nation - this is due to the politics, and the press. Writing this was very depressing.

Hyp3hat got a reaction from FFWF in I would like to become a writer for the series.
The position of writer in videogames in general is pretty far down the ladder.
Lets look at Sonic Colours, for instance. It's a good game for a lot of reasons, but people give Pontac and Graff a lot of shit for its story. But where do you think the collective Pontaff had the most impact on the story? Dialogue in cutscenes. That's all they wrote. They weren't responsible for the settings of the levels, the wisps, or any of the meat of the cutscenes. The actual content of those cutscenes is designed to be watched in a narratively weird fashion - you can play the levels in a mixed up order, so the majority of cutscenes in the middle of the game cannot hold any significant narrative weight. The developers, in making the game the way it was, forced their hand. They can say 'Sonic will do this' in a cutscene, but they didn't have a say in where those cutscenes should be or what they could actually contain.
Or, for another example, Sonic 06. Any sensible writer would not write Elise getting kidnapped repeatedly into your narrative. It's redundant. But, the designers were adamant that each hedgehogs story should have ten levels, and that they have to return to the hub at certain points. And the writers had to deal with that. Of course, if a developer is paying attention, they can work it in a way that those stipulations can seem natural - you never feel like you're thrown back to the hub for no reason in Sonic Adventure, for instance.
This is true of a lot of games, but not all of them - Tomb Raider 2013 sought to have its lead writer present in development meetings, so she could influence the actual content, but most of the time the writer has to plug in the gaps between what the developers want to do. Another way to look at it is this - games with very strong stories and narratives (Undertale, Telltales output, adventure games, Metal Gears, etc) have to be designed with that in mind from the outset, and telling stories in gameplay requires some sacrifice in raw playability. Reading text or listening to dialogue in a Sonic game is less time spent running to the right and jumping on robots, and if you get it wrong people are going to turn it off - Sonic Rush Adventure is a great example of how to fuck this up.
If you want to work at Sonic Team, or any game developer for that matter, the best way to go about it is to make games. They're not like writing novels or movies, they have a whole raft of unique technical issues due to the medium. If you can understand those and work your narratives to suit, you're on the way.
This is a rambly mess, but hopefully it helps a bit.

The main difference between May and Leadsom is that whilst May probably holds the same sort of religious beliefs as her opponent privately, Leadsom is the one that would decide policy based on her faith, which makes her very dangerous. IIRC, she sends her kids to a religious school that teaches a "gay cure," and may also believe God speaks to her. To make matters worse, Leadsom is in favor of removing minimum wage requirements for small businesses.
Either way we go, Britain will imminently be lead by an ultra-authoritarian, religious nutcase. May looks like the lesser of the two evils, but she's every bit as vile. Frankly, I think that a general election should be called right away, not that Labour or the Lib Dems are in any position to mount an effective campaign - but the people as a whole deserve a voice in this, not just the 0.2% of the population belonging to the Tory party.
I've never despaired for my homeland before, but I think that now seems like a pretty damn good place to start.

Hyp3hat got a reaction from Briraka in Ghostbusters "Who ya gonna call? The Meh busters!"
Yeah, I really didn't want to dislike this movie. Hate's a strong word, I just won't watch this, and that's not great but Feig, Wiig and McCarthy have not murdered my childhood or drawn a moustache on the Mona Lisa. It's fucking Ghostbusters. I just thought a female Ghostbusters would have been super cool if done right and the trailers just didn't make me laugh once. It's very disappointing.
That said, the instant backlash this got was entirely down to misogyny from angry nerds. The fact that the trailers were poor haven't helped going into the movies release, but there's still an angry core of bitter sexists who are determined to revel in its failure, and that's a substantial part of the backlash. This problem is that there's also a backlash from real human beings who leave the house and don't go on 4chan who just didn't like what they saw in the trailers, and I worry that he's conflating the two.
Feig's right, Nerd Culture (tm) is a blight on the human condition, but it won't change the fact that he made a shit movie. Going 'fuck the haters' is one thing, but saying that to valid criticism it's just going to look sad.

    Hyp3hat got a reaction from Ryannumber1Scarer in Sonic Runners (iOS/Android) - Thread Version 2.0
    OK...
How is Sonic Runners not the same thing all the time? It's exactly the same as Sonic Dash from a 2D perspective and with a more aggressive pay to win system. You can't move for Sonic Runners trying to gouge you for cash. Both Sonic Dashes are more subtle.
DSS actually released a 20 minute video explaining how much he hated the 2.0 update and that he would stop playing it. I can't imagine he's upset about it shutting down.
If SEGA made Sonic Runners a bad game, how is it not a bad game? Besides, even at 1.0 it was buggy, full of gambling and pay to win mechanics, and with stupid load times. A nice idea, but just handled poorly by people who had little experience making or balancing mobile games.
No petition on earth will make SEGA keep Sonic Runners online.

Hyp3hat got a reaction from Indigo Rush in [Music] Windmill Isle (Carnivale Unleashed Mashup)
So I was loving the new remix of this from the Rio game, and found a mashup of the OG and the remix on one of those 'lets extend the thing for 30 minutes for some reason' youtube channels. Sweet, thought I.
Turns out the goon just literally cued the two songs next to each other in Audacity and that was that. What a hack. The arrangements are pretty different, so after the first minute it turns into a mess. I thought I'd do it properly.
It took about 45 minutes from downloading the rip of the remix to hitting export. The fact that the original uploader was just so lazy really annoys me, I know they just loop shit and call it a day, but have some pride in what you do for gods sake.
Anyway, it's not the best it could be - the drum tracks are very different, so whilst it's in in time the rhythms clash a bit, and the arrangement of the orchestral track means that the transition into the breakdown is a bit messy, but hey, it's not two tracks just played at the same time. Can't believe that's the bar I had to surpass.
    Hope you enjoy it!

I just listened to the entire album twice. First time to experience it, second to soak it in.
And it is ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE HYPE.
Please listen to this album ASAP. Easily album of the year, and just generally a fantastic experience from start to finish. It took me a good first listen to get used to an overall different sound than Since I Left You, so all I can say is to expect more trippy and psychedelic sounds than dance-centric rhythms on this album. It'll be hard to get past that at first, but just let it sink in and you'll be able to see it for what it is. It's incredible.
Fav tracks are "Harmony", "Wozard of Iz", "I Wish I Was A Folkstar", "The Noisy Eater", and "Colours".

I always thought the Wii version version of Unleashed in particular took inspiration from Sonic R in terms of movement, which explains why Sonic controls like such a clunky mess and can't easily move in four basic directions.  Makes me wonder if they had plans to take the idea further... or maybe it's just an isolated coincidence in bad game design.
