I guess my biggest unpopular Sonic opinion is that Ken Penders isn't (or maybe wasn't) a completely talentless hack. On the contrary, I think he did some good for the Archie Sonic series early on. Later on, he got a bit too pretentious with his ideas, but I do appreciate that he recognised the potential was there for serious storytelling rather than just a gag comic.

Bringing the subject back to Penders, I was reading KtE #6 this morning, and this final panel amused me...

"Oh yeah, we threw in Knuckles as a bonus!"

That... is a lot truer than implied... throughout the series as a whole. This is what we call kidding on the square.

No, not at all. I think it's totally fair to have different standards for fan works. Fan works are under no obligations towards the franchise or to its audience. They can be as weird and wild as the creator wants. Fan works are an expression of the creator's views of the franchise, so if they want to cut loose and make it a furry teen drama, they can do. If they want to sideline all the official characters and turn their comic into an epic interplanetary war story with West Wing style political subplots, they can do.

    Ahem.

Point is, fan works don't have to please everyone, because they're the stories the fans themselves want to tell, and that's fine. That's beautiful and wonderful. And they have much more niche audiences anyways. But official works truly represent the franchise and need to follow certain standards, because they have the more general audience. The point I'm making is that an StH Online should at least try to maintain similar standards if it views itself as the spiritual (ugh...) successor of the old continuity. After all, with the Flynn era of StH, it seems it's those standards that made the comic so fucking awesome.

Fan works can be a very mixed bag... I personally think StC Online is generally terrible. I'd worry that StH Online would go the same route. One of the reasons StH has been so awesome since Flynn took over arguably is the hand of Sega keeping things in check. No such check would exist in a fan comic and you could end up with the same kind of egotistical writing that we're so critical of Penders for.

In any event, we're talking about something that's decades away from happening. Chances are, the Sonic comic won't even still be around by then. But then again, I never expected it to last until 2014. And who'd have thought that Superman would endure for nearly a century? But then, Superman's not based on a series of videogames that seems to constantly be on the brink of collapse.

I'm not sure what I'm being asked when they try something different every game anyway. Like, anything I can think of is something they actually tried tossing at some point and it still remains as popular of a series as it's always been.
It's not a blockbuster franchise but I don't need it to be. I don't care about Sonic being 'validated' or w/e

Delta Starfire reacted to Diogenes in Should there be a new "Sonic Bible" and reboot based on it?
"Soft" being the key word. A soft reboot isn't really much of anything, the way I see it; it might include a change of direction, but without giving anything up, it's just adding to the mess the series has become. Anything a soft reboot ends up doing has to be squared with the games that came before it, because it's all still one continuity.
A proper reboot would sweep all that stuff away. It's a chance to start fresh, to get rid of what didn't work, to retool what did (or almost did), and to build new ideas into the foundation of the series. It allows for a level of flexibility and freedom that you can't get if you're still beholden to a quarter century of sketchy writing. That alone doesn't guarantee success of course, you still need the right people with the right ideas, but cleaning up and starting fresh can give them the space to do their best work rather than being held back by the existing continuity's problems.

There is hope for the IDW comics, maybe she can be a big part of the new restoration group led by Amy, more repair than fighting.

I think the same fans would probably consider her playable appearances to be an overexaggeration like, at least I personally, do.  Like it seems "out of character" for her to be spin attacking badniks like the rest of them, and I feel that was only done for the sake of gameplay.  I feel like Sonic X formed a lot of my opinions on "the canon Cream" because every character in that show resembles their canon-selves in terms of fight abilities except for her.  When she fights at the end of the Sonic Battle arc, it's a BIG deal and one of the emotional high points for the series that she is pushed so far.
I mean as fans we can argue til the sun rises about what gameplay elements are canon or not, but personally it seems out of character for Cream to be a fighter to me, considering she never fights in any of her non-playable appearances.  I imagine canonically she is just superpowered enough to keep up with her friends but ultimately Cheese does all the offensive/defensive work for her when she's up against danger by herself.
Granted, it's hard to come up with a role for her that isn't just getting kidnapped or to act as a face of normality/home base (see: Amy and Knuckles in Lost World).  You'd need to have her in mind from the very start of drafting out the overall plot to find something engaging to do.

Delta Starfire reacted to Harkofthewaa in What's the beef with Cream the Rabbit?
Those fans haven't played games like Sonic Advance 2 or Sonic Riders where Cream is broken as hell. Honestly, the type of people who hate Cream are either going to be people who hate the concept of a child character in general or the crowd who hate everyone who isn't Sonic/Tails/Knuckles/Shadow/Eggman on principle.

Delta Starfire reacted to Polkadi~☆ in What's the beef with Cream the Rabbit?
It's all blown way out of proportion.
There are so many worse Sonic characters, who are geniunely bad. Infinite, Black Doom, the Deadly Six, Big the Cat, etc. In comparison, Cream is harmless. She was a fun character to play as in the Advance series, and no more from that. Going forward, she's a party character, someone who exists in the franchise. No longer does her existence actively affect anything, not that it ever did.
Children also like the character, providing a child character for the series where Tails does not fit.
So, why panic and say she is everything wrong with the Sonic franchise? Her entire existence has done nothing.
    ...Maybe it's the voice?

When it comes to Sonic the Hedgehog in journalism, I find it hard to trust anyone to give a fair opinion.

Delta Starfire got a reaction from Monkey Destruction Switch in Your Recent Creative Endeavors and Accomplishments
Hey, thanks for starting this topic, @Monkey Destruction Switch
I've been working on the same webcomic, Eon's World, more or less since 2002, and last year I got a bit sidetracked with a project to remaster the first volume, which was a sprite comic. I did some good work on that, but I underestimated how big a project it would be, so I've taken some time to re-think my approach before returning to it. In the meantime, I've continued work on Vol. 2 (which continues the same story, but not as a sprite comic) and, since I was able to finish the last few pages of Chapter 8 fairly quickly towards the end of last year once I really focused on it, I decided to take a stab at doing Chapter 9 on a regular update schedule -- something I haven't done with my comic since Chapter 5, which I did in 2014.
Well, so far, I've completed 12 out of 27 pages for Chapter 9, the first 6 of which have been uploaded on a regular Wednesday/Saturday schedule, beginning January 9. I'm making good time on it and confident I'll get through the chapter without any delays or rescheduling. And once that's done, I'm going to start work on a secondary project to properly remaster and re-release Vol. 1, which I hope I'll be able to work on alongside future chapters of Vol. 2. I hope to get at least another complete chapter of Vol. 2 done this year, as well, and I'm well positioned for that, since I've already written the script for Chapter 10.

    Somewhat unpopular:

Shadow is easily the most interesting and fleshed out character in the entire franchise and has a unique relationship to Sonic not filled by any other character, and that alone justifies his continued existence past Sonic Adventure 2. No, he wasn't "better off if he stayed dead", the series just has no idea how to take advantage of his position.

This statement blew up when I posted it on Twitter, so:
Shadow is not an "edgelord" by any stretch of the imagination. He's reserved, soft-spoken and introspective, but he's not some emo punk. Any angst or introversion you see from him is a result of past trauma rather than any desire to be "edgy".

I can't really tell if this is popular or not at this point. I admit I'm a little confused given the separation of the fanbase.
But I really think Sonic could make use of all of the characters and ideas that have been here since Day 1 from all over the series' multiverse. I really appreciated how Archie Sonic felt like the Ultimate Sonic the Hedgehog where everything got a chance to shine. Where a bunch of Sonics could be compared to Peter Parker (especially Nicky from the Sonic manga but with a Captain Mar-I mean Shazam feel to Sonic and Nicky's being a single character), Archie Sonic from the post reboot can be really easily compared to Miles Morales. He's still the Sonic we love but there's more of this expansive universe that allows anything that was a thing in Sonic to shine. So far to even having GUN Agent Madonna.
I'm really tired of Sega throwing out a lot of the old stuff when what they need to work on is moderation. Not everyone has to be part of every story of the series. People's paths intertwine. A protagonist of one story is a support character in another story. You know how this works.
I mean, I really enjoy the amount of possibility the series has. I'm kind of sad that with such a colourful cast of characters that there aren't more spinoffs like Tails Adventure or a Knuckles game. Could you imagine what a Knuckles Solo game would be like? Knuckles could have something like a Wario Land game where it's more combat and exploration heavy but you still have the momentum physics based gameplay and even apply that to puzzle solving. Or heck, a tactical MGS meets Sonic game featuring the Freedom Fighters.  There's so much possibility for neat and out there ideas.
That's why when we were oversaturated with Sonic games for some years in the 2000s it was sad that not a lot of them were unique. I mean, keep it all to the core of Sonic's momentum physics gameplay yes, but really experiment and not be afraid to keep the old stories there to be expanded upon in the future.
Like if there's one more reimagining of Sonic I want it's the Spider-Verse/Amalgamation of everything that's been encompassed in the series.
I mean that's the thing that sucks about Contemporary Sonic. It doesn't want to do anything new with the old stuff. When the old stuff gets used it's almost exactly like it was then without anything new being added with the exception being Sonic Mania. It's clear that no one at Sonic Team and Sega are sure what to do with Sonic while long time fans at the Mania team make use of everything and do new stuff with the old. I want the kind of love Sonic Mania had put into it put into the rest of the series.
Is that so much to ask for?

Half of the times Sonic won in AOSTH was because of some screw up by Scratch and Grounder or by Robotnik; hence the Bugs Bunny influence, because all of Bugs opponents were blatantly less smart and dumber  than him to make him look better.
Its the same shit with Skeletor, Mumra, Shredder, etc etc etc.

This isn't in response to any single person in particular, but I do have the opinion that a fair number of fans seem disappointed with Sonic Boom not for its quality, but because it wasn't trying to be what some fans hoped from the latest Sonic TV show. I get the feeling that alot of fans - myself included - want a TV show which is essentially Sonic X but done right, serialised stories, the game cast front and center, maybe some game plot adaptations, relatively serious but with good humour etc, sortof like the TV show version of the current IDW run.
Compared to Boom which was first and foremost a comedy show over everything else, and was set in its own universe, and aside from the mainstays had an entirely original setting and cast of supporting characters. I dunno, I mean not to say Boom is perfect by any means and that you can't make valid criticisms of it. I guess I just find it a little sad that it feels like some fans never gave it a chance because it didn't meet their expectations of what they wanted.

I think I would like to make music someday. I used to play the cello so I guess I have at least a little experience to go on. My parents recently got a keyboard that someone was giving away because I expressed an interest in the keyboard (since I love New Wave, I would probably like to make synth-y music), so I messed around with it the other day. Just messing around, I don't really know how to play it lol...but it was fun!
I also did some drawing recently, including a digitally-colored piece and some pieces I plan to digitally color, a change from my usual traditional art. As much as I like traditional, I'll definitely continue to pursue digital coloring too as it certainly has its perks. I want my art to be a nice blend of things - traditional pieces and digital pieces, original art and fan art, etc. (If you're interested in seeing the results of my drawing endeavors, see here.) Also, my interest in drawing Sonic characters and coming up with Sonic concepts has recently been revived, which I think is a good thing, as they're fun to draw and it's a great source of inspiration!
