  1. Neo Metal Sonic is among the worst designs to ever hit this series, alongside Mephiles. He's overdesigned for the sake of looking "XTRA KOOL". Metal Sonic is just that: a metal Sonic. Every feature of his is representative of a feature on Sonic. Even his turbine is a stand-in for Sonic's peachy stomach. All other details are just "he's a robot" stuff. NEO Metal Sonic...what even happened here. His head is now as large as the rest of his body, for some reason, and his ears have been turned red because...yellow wasn't KOOL enough, I guess? He has also applied some lovely white eyeliner because Shadow gave him some makeup tips. His spines are LONGER than his arms and legs. The bolts holding his mouthplate on are now spikes, because SPIKES ARE KOOL. He is now dressed (???) like some kind of wizard, with pointy shoes (XTRA KOOL spikes included) and his simple arms and legs are now large sleeves and pant legs. Best of all, he is wearing a studded belt with a butt cape and what appears to be a...robe tie or loin cloth? There are other weird design choices here that aren't really offensively bad but just confusing like the white stripes on everything or the oversized turbine engine. Opinions are opinions man, but I'm hard pressed to see how anyone could think this looked cool. It looks like someone told me to draw a cool Sonic robot when I was 14.
  2. Maybe this one will be the goofy happy-go-lucky one where Jim Robotnik's plan is to steal a magical jewel from a museum that will let all of his robots run without fuel, and there will be practically zero stakes. Then the sequel will be the hardcore "trying really hard to look cool and mature" one where Shadow is introduced and Jim Robotnik holds guns to peoples' heads and his plan is to literally nuke New York.

  4. Banjo is the only character Kazooie respects, and seeing other characters put him (and herself) through stupid shit pisses her off, thus why she's such a salty bitch all the time.

  5. I'm fairly sure, yes, although it's been awhile since I've played, well, any Sonic game other than Mania. Interesting idea. Didn't Knuckles have some sort of wall-based spindash in Sonic Advance (one of them, not sure which)? Seems like a pretty viable solution to the problem, though. If you can't re-glide after the move, there'd be some strategy to using it since it'll put Knuckles at a bit of a disadvantage without solid ground, but you get to move further upward than Knuckles could by simply climbing. Not to mention making climbing shortcuts more viable for Time Trials and the like. Maybe it could be a move where Knuckles vaults forward with his arms, putting him in the "spring" animation to make it a little more risky (you couldn't sail into enemies with it) and establish that Knuckles can't go back into a glide afterward? Or it could just put him into a running animation so you could still hop backwards off the wall. That'd probably make for some interesting jumps, although that'd remove a bit of risk without a way to prevent the player from turning right around and gliding again. I guess it just goes to show even simple additions add a lot of variables.
  6. Do you think in hypothetical future classic games, Knuckles' climbing should be sped up? I'm not talking a massive speed increase, but I feel like bumping it up a little would make it feel a little less tedious. I really like exploring with Knuckles but his climbing feels incredibly slow. Additionally, after playing Ray, Tails' flight feels like trying to maneuver a greased sausage through molasses.

  8. Well, there isn't a Super Mario comic, and looking at Archie's history with Sonic, I don't really blame Nintendo for not wanting to risk it becoming...whatever the fuck Archie Sonic became for a good half of its run.
  9. Are they just showing off the stuff they have then? Because I swear I just saw a tweet from one of them saying there'd be stuff at SAGE. I'm not complaining, as long as there's something to play at the end of the day I'm fine with that.
  10. At the very least, if we're to get a classic companion comic, it means that those characters will have a greater spotlight in that one. I don't have a lot of hope for Sega to follow Mania's success with anything meaningful (Mania sold well? They must want more Green Hill!), but if they did, a companion series would be pretty likely, I think. Seems silly for them to just let these characters sit and rot while they introduce new ones, especially ones that look like they could be made in Forces' meager DeviantArt machine (Tangle looks unique enough, even if only being a species you can't use). Can't get mad at Ian for not being (visibly) upset, though. He's a professional and is probably working his dream job right now: writing for a series he loves. If I got the chance to write for Metroid, I'd take Nintendo shoving a broom up my ass every morning with a smile.
  11. That new fella was mentioned at SDCC I guess. I still stand by my prediction of who we have now + Chaotix with Charmy switched out + Egg/Metal/New Guy.
  12. I can understand not using them in the Modern games, because there are enough useless characters as is, but comics benefit from having a huge cast. Why take away that option?
  13. "The next great Sonic game"

    hehe

  14. I was referring to your second idea, more specifically. Where everyone is killed during the final boss.
  15. Wait, do you think there's a chance they could port the original NiGHTS? Like, not the wonky PS2 version, but the original one? I'd pay well over acceptable price for that.
  16. I love it. However, I don't think you're putting enough thought into the concept, as there are a lot of implications here that should, nay need to be explored in a rich, well-written world like Sonic the Hedgehog's, and in the franchise as a whole. You have to remember, these are basically the only people Shadow has any connections with at this point. Friends or foes, they are his tethers to the world around him, the only thing keeping him grounded rather than being consumed by the rage and confusion inside of him. With the others gone, Shadow would likely experience a deep depression, made worse by his identity crisis. Assuming Sonic Team were to follow through with this bold (and honestly, downright brilliant) direction for the series, any further games would have to star the remaining characters in the series, with Shadow of course being the main character. In Shadow the Hedgehog 2, we could see Shadow's fall from grace: the use of alcohol and narcotics to numb the pain of utter detachment from the world as it exists. The Black Arms are defeated, but at what cost? Is a world without others to connect to worth living in? The humans around him remind him far too much of those once lost, yet without the likes of Sonic, Rouge, and Knuckles, he's no one left to measure himself by. As Shadow further drowns himself in sin to mask his sorrow, he finds himself needing increasingly bizarre and exotic antidotes to the poison that is guilt. Shadow the Hedgehog 2 would put on display the deepest depravities and harshest extremes a person will go to, just to hide from that which causes them suffering. This is where Charmy the Bee comes in. If you'll remember, one of the many sublime character moments from Shadow the Hedgehog was Charmy's idolization of Shadow. He, a young boy with aspirations of heroism, sees Shadow as the pinnacle of masculinity and coolness. One day, as Shadow awakes among a sea of spent needles, empty bottles, and strange women, he, by happenstance, sees the number for the Chaotix Detective Agency in an open phone book on the floor. The word, "Chaotix", reminds him of his days playing cat and mouse with others of his kind, playing his part in the Saturday Morning Illusion that was his life before it was all violently ripped from him. Should he risk trying to reconnect, thus opening his defunct, blackened heart to be shattered yet again? Or should he continue his cycle of self-destruction until the icy black hand of Death takes him to what would hopefully be final peace? Shadow weighs the fragile hope in his heart against the crushing agony of losing everything a third time, at which point he is at his most relatable, basic state. We have all been reduced to nothing. We have all been given the opportunity to begin rebuilding and risk destruction, and considered remaining as nothing. We have all been at that point where you either decide to continue down the path you're walking, or start walking a new one. This, right here, is what will define not only Shadow the Hedgehog 2, but redefine video game storytelling as a whole. I applaud you, lulzers, for being brave enough to present this idea in a world where simplicity and ease rule all. Others may call your idea grim, or unnecessary, or even (God-forbid) edgy, but I will call it what it is: the seed of an incredible work of art.
  17. I visited NiD.com for the first time since I was an annoying teenager.  It was...depressing, to say the least.

  18. I've been wanting to ask this myself, glad to see it got answered. It would've been really cool if they would've had Metal Sonic flash that dark gold color Mecha Sonic turns before getting clobbered by Knuckles. I wonder why robots and machinery seem to get more power from the Master Emerald than the Chaos Emeralds themselves, while we rarely see living things draw energy from the Master Emerald? Maybe it's got something to do with the exhibitor/inhibitor relationship they have? And hell yeah I hope we get to see Super Metal Sonic one day in the future, animated or otherwise. Also cool that Hoshino designed Metal's power-up, but I mean...it was just yellow eyes, cool as the effect ended up being.
  19. I thought he was literally going to do the OVA thing at first and try to fry Metal's circuits with interference. I like what actually happened was much better. Egg looks a lot like his OVA counterpart when his glasses fall down, too.
  20. Watched gf play Forces for a while.  Why is Metal Sonic a clone...illusion...thing?  Doesn't Egg already own him outright?  Also why does the Phantom Ruby do something completely different than it does in Mania?

      Supah Berry

It also looks completely different from Mania's ruby- almost as if Sonic Team didn't even give Mania Team a picture of it when they told them to put it in.

      SenEDDtor Missile

Apparently, at least based on what I’ve heard, it was a last minute change to tie Mania to Forces.

  21. I loved your playthrough of Cuphead, by the way. That tutorial part had me in stitches!
  22. I wonder if the intent was to make Super Metal yellow and Sonic Team said no, or if they thought a more subtle change like just the eyes would be more effective.

Honestly the eyes grew on me pretty quick.  Not like it would make sense for his paint to suddenly turn gold anyway.

    1. Boomer

      Boomer

But it makes sense for Sonic's spines to turn gold?

    2. Jambone

      Jambone

Hedgehog spines are made out of stiff hairs, and thus are at the very least connected to Sonic and could, in the vaguest sense, be considered "alive".

Paint is paint, it's chemicals and dyes mixed together in a factory and slathered on a robot.

Unless the alloy that Metal Sonic is made of is just blue then you've got me.

    3. Boomer

      Boomer

Well yeah but how would his hair change colours? Paint can at least be in two tone colours.

    4. Jambone

      Jambone

Uh...dumb cartoon hedgehog magic?  On second thought, paint changing color wouldn't be much more ridiculous.

    5. The Deleter

      The Deleter

Metal Sonic's eyes changing to bright yellow is good enough for me. Energy of a different color flowing through his circuits makes a lot more sense and is just as effective, imo.

His thruster needs to upgrade to a flat-out rocket in terms of thrust, though. And give him some new moves based around the power boost, as well

  23. Eh, I think they did pretty well with the time they had. Not like they could've spent the whole cartoon having him whale on the heroes just to establish how strong he was. They had him easily beat Sonic 1-on-1, then he was still holding his own and didn't seem fazed against four of them at once. Only once Tails exploited the phase panel things (that were shown explicitly to capture Emeralds, I liked that) did they gain any real ground. Honestly I think Metal Sonic was the star of the show this time around and it's only right that Knuckles avenge his precious baby in the end.
  24. Tyson confirmed on Retro that Knuckles thought it was the real Sonic he decked and there was a scene (cut for time) of him stopping, looking at the real Sonic and having a moment of "Wait, then who...?" Lovely ending to the series, was actually more climactic than I was expecting. We got as close to giving a character an official Super state as Sega or Sonic Team could possibly allow, more wonderful animation, and great music. I hope this isn't the last we see from these folks, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. How much love Metal Sonic and Knuckles got in this series (and, well, Mania as a whole) is wonderful. My two favorites always seem to get the short end of the stick, but not here.
