I'm enjoying revisiting Unleashed so much more than i thought I would.
I still think that the game had some of the most pig-headed ideas imaginable, basic flaws in design and that SEGA was incredibly dense to allow it to be released in its highly umoptimised state though. It's not a bad game by any stretch, but SEGA kind of chose to present it as such. After so many years of bad games, Unleashed was their chance to set everything right. If someone had stepped in to eliminate some of the games absurdities (cheap level design were one mistake = bottomless pit, Werehog battle music, length of the Werehog stages, how long it takes to get from one level to the next when playing the story etc etc), it could have been really good. And really the game needed several more months in development just to be polished; the framerate is down right unacceptable. Even with the Werehog included the game could have been a success.

The last time I booted up the game was 2015, but I don't think I'd played through the story and experienced the full package for a few years before even that. So I'm enjoying it for its world, its story, its graphics and art etc etc... Everything it offers that more recent games don't offer. Especially the length. Yes some of the time spent in the hubs feels like padding, but most of it is solid.
Plus only earlier this week I was replaying '06 for the first time in just as long. The difference is remarkable.

And a lot of those flaws I could see being addressed with a proper PC version (which is why I'll advocate for it till the day I die). It being on here alone would address the optimization issues. From there, I can't imagine it'd be too much trouble for fans to go in and retool some things like the werehog music constantly playing, sun and moon medal counters, having the werehog have all his combos from the start, ect.
Like, at this point I have to assume Sega's inability to port it is more due to something like them losing the source code than anything else. They know there's an audience for it (Aaron has downright hinted at such) and Sonic games generally always d well on the platfrom. The whole delisted theory doesn't hold up anymore because they did allow a rerun of it for the Xbox One backwards compat program.
Though, the good news is that the game really is coming along on some of the popular 360 and PS3 emulators so it's really only a matter of time before something comes up.

My favorite parts are the dumb camera shifts in Empire City Night when you're balancing and the medal system
I literally tried my best scowering the Werehog levels, often getting all of them minus one or two, and still not getting to the last stages without having to grind some. It's the dumbest shit.
