Randomised Special Stages in S3AIR are the best thing. I always collect all of the Emeralds by Emerald by Hydrocity/Mushroom Hill and having ability to go Super so soon just breaks the game, but doing a run without collecting the Emeralds feels so incomplete. In comes S3AIR with it's randomised (but fixed per save file) Special Stage layouts and the game finally offers me a challenge again. Currently halfway through CNZ1 as Sonic & Tails with only five Emeralds so far. Considering the difficulties I've have despite entering most of the Special Stages in previous levels, I don't know if I'll get everything by the time the Super Emeralds roll around. This is great!

Rouge isn't very good at being a government spy. What does she accomplish in SA2? She gets an A4 printout of information on Project Shadow, but not before she first raids a government facility to obtain some Emeralds, assaults a guard, blows up said facility with a bomb and then use the Emeralds she stole to shoot a giant laser that blows up the moon. I know there's such a thing as collateral damage and needing to blend in, but fucking hell she's a menace.

Super old video from shortly after Colours' release that talks about the difference in platforming, speed and spectacle in Unleashed and Colours. It's interesting to watch as this is all from a pre-Generations and Forces perspective, the points still stand and IMO apply to those newer games as well. And it's from @JezMM.
At least watch the comparison between S-Ranks that starts at 8:15. It's rather hilarous.

Sonic 3 AIR is really good and I feel so ashamed of myself for not trying it out sooner. Definitive S3K experience right here. Whilst I'd love a Taxman version to be officially released, this is going to be a tough act to follow.

I really hate playing games and finding dozens of journals and/or voice memos left all over the world explaining the story. First of all, why are they all there? Who actually records these things spilling all of their secrets and repeatedly leaves them scattered across the world? And secondly, these exposition dumps don't make good a good story. In a limited amount, they can be nice and provide a bit of background. But for the most part they are amongst the worst storytelling techniques. They're not interesting, and actually become incredibly tiresome.
Looking at you, Tomb  Raider reboot series. It's tolerable in the 2013 game with heart a few characters and important insight into the history of the island, but in Rise its fucking awful. Konstantin and Ana just happen to detail their entire lives, motives, conspiracies and plans to betray orders in voice memos left all around Trinity's bases of operations over the course of the game? Piss off. Lazy story telling. We learn about these characters mostly from the journals and memos. There are dozens of other journals from other nameless characters too. Especially egregious when these diaries  aren't regarded in the plot at all, so cutscenes have characters learning things that already learned from journal entries hours ago.

I miss the cast of the Sonic series so, so much. They're a really fun and enjoyable bunch. I've been rewatching X lately (and watching past the SA1 arc for the first time). Rouge is an awesome character In this show. She, Knuckles and Sonic are the best parts of it. Actually, for the most part all of the characters are really good, both the human guys unique to X and the game cast X. Tails is too much just the tech guy who only gets involved in the action when he's piloting his plane, but his personality is leagues above the smart alec he's been ever since Colours. Decoe, Bocoe and Bokkun are so much more enjoyable and more believable as Eggman's henchmen than Orbot and Cubot. Even the humans, supporting characters like the President with his two aides, or the more important humans like Mr Stewart, Topaz, Ella and Tanaka are really fun. They don't steal the spotlight, but they also don't feel like deadweights as they all bring fun humour, subplots and personalities into the mix. Rouge and Topaz are a brilliant combination.
The only one who's particularly bad is Chris. He does steal the spotlight and brings nothing to the table as a character. He serves a purpose early in the series to establish the scene and set up the story of Sonic settling on Earth, but after the first arc of the show when Sonic and Co start to get treated as citizens his purpose is done and he only really exists to be rescued every episode.
I'm getting all nostalgic not for X specifically, but just what the series was in the early 2000s. I love the characters and stories on display here. Sonic as a plot, action and character driven series is awesome.

What's the official stance on Metal Sonic being able to speak? He obviously does in Heroes and the IDW comics, but otherwise in the games like Free Riders and TSR,  he's a muted and only communicates with some really pathetic bleeps and boops unbefitting of his role as a menacing figure. Apart from Generations, wherein Classic Metal Sonic actually has a few full lines of dialogue, albeit unvoiced ones.

I'd like to see him either voiced again, or at least have his crappy sound effects replacing with better ones.
