  1. Might make a topic about cast oversaturation in this series and how it can be addressed.

But I'll do that next week.

      Please don't

Relax, I'm not gonna be like "X CHARACTER SHOULD BE REMOVED"

I'm gonna be as nuanced as possible, but you know, I like playing devil's advocate.

    3. Wraith

You can't be nuanced about something that's not a real problem

      "Shadow should be removed"

No but seriously, he should only appear when needed, same for anyone that isn't Eggman or the core 4. Opinions summarized in few words.

    5. Kuzu

@Wraith Contrary to popular belief; there can in fact be too much of a good thing to the point that it becomes a problem.

    6. Wraith

What's the problem? Too many characters standing in the background?

    7. Thigolf

The series has done barely anything with the cast in the last decade so there isn't any saturation anywhere

    8. Jack at Home

      Jack at Home

      ...that's the issue.

    9. Kuzu

Yea, basically. The characters don't do a goddamn thing when they appear. And no, this isn't about them being playable.

I'm of the opinion that if a character does not have an intended role, no matter how small it is, they don't need to appear. @Jack at Home got it right; if a game does not star Shadow in some way, or he at least doesn't have a major supporting role, then he doesn't need to appear.

If a character shows up in a game, then the expectation is for them to do something. This is why Colors works, because it's focused on a small cast of characters and those characters are the only ones who are in the game (Sonic, Tails, Eggman, Orbot, and Cubot).

But Sega keeps throwing these characters in haphazardly because we won't stfu about them showing up.

    10. Wraith

That's just needlessly restrictive and not even a solution to the supposed problem.

The problem is, you're treating the symptoms but ignoring the cause.

    12. Diogenes

      delete all sonics, problem solved

    13. Kuzu

@Wraith I didn't say it was perfect and I don't even think it's a good idea either. Its just one I came up with.

The topic is open to all solutions.

@Blue Blood What do you feel is cause and how can it be treated?

    14. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

The cause is making bad games. The treatment is making good games.

I mean, Generations is a good game and didn't do right by the characters :V

Generations is an alright game. The story, and subsequently the characters, is one of many things holding it back.

    17. Kuzu

I don't think there's much of a line between "good" and "alright", but beyond that, how would a "great" game utilize the characters in your eyes then?

    18. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

      Better than Generations.

    19. Kuzu

Ok, if you were in the charge of the series and had free reign to do whatever the fuck you wanted, no questions asked; how would you go about doing it.
