"3D has killed Pokemon"
Ahh we've reached this point have we. How long before fans join the dev team and create a perfect replication of 2D Pokemon?

People have had these complaints since XY.
And I can somewhat see where they're coming, since they didn't do a good job of transferring all the Pokemon to 3d. The models look less vibrant, had poses that didn't make them as threatening, the attack animations were used generically, some didn't seem as expressive as they could have been. There are probably more complaints I'm missing.
It's nothing that can't be fixed though. But it's been years.

i wouldn't say 3d has killed pokemon but it has certainly been an obstacle that it has struggled with. or, technological progress and expectations in general, maybe. going from 150 monsters with a whole two sprites each to something like a thousand of them needing full 3d models and multiple animations just to portray battles in a very basic style is...kind of a lot.

3D exacerbated and accelerated Game Freak's problems, but it's far from the source of the problems in the Pokémon games. And had it stayed 2D... That would have turned off more of the audience. Most of the audience of Pokémon is pretty casual or young and wouldn't even think about the criticisms that more "hardcore" or older fans are vocal about online. Just look at the sales figures for SwSh and Let's Go; if the loudest Internet voices meant anything, those games would have harder than the Wii U.
That's why Legends actually surprises me so much. It's categorically something that Pokémon doesn't need to be a success. And after SwSh and Let's Go were such huge hitters commercially, I didn't think TCP would allow any interest in shaking things up.

Its kind of an inherent flaw of Pokemon's design. They designed a world where players will fall in love with these creatures, is constantly bringing them back, and adding more while still keeping up with the technological advances of modern tech. Something had to give sooner or later.
@Blue Blood I imagine Game Freak were just as bored of making the same game and wanted something different.
Its hard to branch out when the risk of failure is so high. If they couldn't outsource the DP remakes, I don't think Legends would exist at all.
