If Ducktales Remastered is getting delisted, I wonder if Disney Afternoon Collection will be too.

    2. Ferno

but im broke right now and i get PAID on the 8th

this is really cutting things close for me

    3. Strickerx5

Snagged it just now. Was never really for the game but hey, you never know.

  1. I'm gonna peace out for a while, the KyoAni tragedy is weighing me down too much and I haven't been able to think straight all day.

    1. Ellipsis-Ultima

      Take your time man.

  2. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-49027178

I'm devastated by this. KyoAni is one of the greatest animation studios and has produced some of my favorite anime of all time such as Clannad and Nichijou - and now some of the people who helped shape my interests and personal creativity are dead. My heart goes out to them and their families.

    1. Ferno

Torn up about it. The person who did it is heartless. So much original production art of past and future projects is probably lost, and more importantly, actual people are gone now and other's lives are permanently changed because of this. Families have lost loved ones over this. It's a sad day for the industry.

    2. KHCast

Jesus this is terrible...fuck the person responsible

    3. Crow the BOOLET

      Crow the BOOLET

KyoAni is my favorite animation studio by far and they gave me a ton of great stories. Goddamn they really didn't deserve this. 😕

      Vertical Snoop [D.K.]

Can't wait for all the self-proclaimed "top-tier shitposters" on Twitter to see this and say some edgy shit about how anime is finally dead!!!!!! or how we finally destroyed weeb shit!!!!!!!!!. Then you go on their profile and it's, like, nothing but retweets of ecchi feet pics.

Was never a big fan of KyoAni but no company ever deserves to go through something like this. It's horrible.

    5. Strickerx5

A sickening act of violence on a group of people who only sought to bring happiness into the lives of others. My heart goes out to the families hurt and I hope that the guy who did this is brought to justice.

To have that much hate it your soul... this is a horrific day for both the industry and humanity as a whole.

    6. PaddyFancy

Can we not speculate the further ramifications of the lack of humanity in shitposters anymore than what's already been appallingly displayed today? I don't need to think about that on top of this.

    7. Polkadi~☆

Holy shit, I’m more appalled by the person who did this, and their apparent motives. Like, how the hell do you justify burning down a building with people inside it, with the intent of murder? My God, that is absolutely horrible.

26 people lost their lives over a petty squabble. I couldn’t even begin to comprehend it. For the people that survived, I hope they’ll be okay and recover from what is no doubt a traumatic event. And for the horrible person who committed this crime, let him be locked away with plenty of time to realise how wrong he was to take several lives over whatever the heck he was on about.

My best wishes to the victims and their families, and to everyone who was injured and affected by this event.

  3. Thinking about how Sega ruined the Sonic mobile Taxman remakes and getting mad again

    1. Ryannumber1gamer

Don't remind me, every experience with Forever has been a disaster for me. I recently decided to try the Forever version of SMB2. I had purchased it a long time ago (Before Forever), and when I tried to restore purchase, it bugs out and does nothing, meaning I'm stuck with the ad-riddled version.

And for Sonic CD - I again bought it awhile ago, downloaded Forever's version, tried to restore purchase, and instead of just giving me the ad-free version, it made me download the older non-Forever version of the game, which would be fine - except fucking oops - the non-Forever app is completely broken and non-functional now.

      Nice fucking work SEGA.

    2. Milo

To say nothing that Sonic 1/2 Remastered are still stuck on mobile devices for some reason...

    3. Sean

@Ryannumber1gamer Yeah that sounds like my experiences with it. Restoring my purchases didn't work at all and I was still stuck with in-game ads and glitchy controls that weren't there at all before Sega updated them. I actually looked up a method on how to rollback to an older version on iOS, which was a long and drawn-out process that I don't think I can recall how I did it. Needless to say, I made fucking sure to back up my 1/2/CD pre-Forever purchases in cold storage and modified the files so that my phone won't prompt me to update.

As far as I'm concerned, Sega actually robbed me of my games that I paid money for. So they can get fucked.

  4. To the developers of Mysteries of the Sith:

    I give up.

  5. Skies of Arcadia HD is next right

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

There's about six or seven ports of S1 (none of which will be definitive because they'll all have different features and bugs) to come out before Skies of Arcadia I'm afraid.

    2. Sean
    3. Crow the BOOLET

      Crow the BOOLET

I feel like they've been teasing us for far too long with Skies of Arcadia HD.

I do hope killing off Vyse and Aika in the anime adaptation of Valkyria Chronicles wasn't a sign of it not happening.

    4. Menace2Society

Sega doesn’t like listening to fans. We would have gotten a SMB Deluxe rerelease or a new game instead of just Banana Blitz in HD.

  6. I honestly don't get people's deal with Kamiya. Guy blocks people on Twitter that annoy him and somehow that makes him toxic lol

    1. Dejimon11

He's gone on record saying that he goes out of his way to look at his followers and block who they're following. It happened to my friend once even tho he has never followed or interacted with him.

    2. Menace2Society

He can be pretty aggressive at times, and often blocks people for rather petty reasons like replying to him in English.

Wouldn’t call him toxic, though. Just a bit of an ass, lol.

  7. Holy shit I can't believe that Max is the strongest character in the Star Wars universe

    1. Tara

      I can believe it.

"Hey Sam, you mind if I take the Death Star out for a joyride?"

  8. Speaking of genres I'd be interested in seeing the series tackle again, a Sonic metroidvania would be so rad

    1. SupahBerry

Sonic Team constantly haunt themselves by not designing levels that aren't 2D, A to B beelines.

I don't expected them to deliver what is basically the polar opposite of that.

    2. Sean

That doesn't have anything to do with me wanting a Sonic metroidvania

    3. KHCast

Wasn’t fire & ice sort of a Metroidvania style? Or was that the original boom 3DS game?

    4. SupahBerry

Everyone knows the Boom series doesn't count

    5. Tara

      Shattered Crystal was a Metroidvania.

Unfortunately, it also sucks, Sonic or otherwise.

Sean wants a good Sonic Metroidvania.

      I want a good Metroidvania.

The whole world wants a good Sonic Metroidvania.

Even Hitler wanted a good Sonic Metroidvania.

Is that so much to ask?

    6. Sean

Yeah it doesn't. I want something for the main series with the scope and flair of something like Hollow Knight. New speed/spinning abilities as you progress, an incredible atmosphere that permeates throughout the overworld, pockets of civilization with characters you get to know over the course of the story. A Sonic game that's defined by its atmosphere and world would get me extremely excited for it.

    7. KHCast

Mania team + open metroidvania styled level design = success?

    8. Wraith

I think this could work really well if you leaned hard into the sequence breaking/shortcut side of metroidvania.

I think its hard to imagine for most because of how 'rigid' MVs tend to but Sonic was the one that broke the rule of platformers having to be rigid in the first place.

    9. KHCast

Now that I think about it, could the Adventure format work for a 3D metroidvania?

    10. Sean

I definitely would want the game to emphasize speed and taking shortcuts that the main series is known for and not just a Super Metroid clone. I think in the right hands it could turn out to be a creative game that practically promotes speedrunning and encourages/challenges players to figure out ways to tear through it optimally.

    11. PublicEnemy1

In terms of fangames, have you played Sonic Chrono Adventure? I feel like it's a pretty solid Sonic Metroidvania.

    12. Menace2Society

Sonic Chrono Adventure pretty much proves that the Metroidvania format would not work for a traditional Sonic game at all.

If they ever decided to do a Sonic-themed Metroidvania, it’ll probably be something like Tails’ Adventure 2.

    13. Sean

I'll never understand the argument that since something has already been tried before and the results weren't good that means it could never work

    14. Menace2Society

If it didn’t work so well the first time, but still had a few concepts and ideas worth revisiting and improving, then yeah, it could be potentially be good the second time around.

If it didn’t work so well the first time and there wasn’t really anything that could be improved that can make it work, then yeah, maybe it can’t be done all that great.

Course, I could possibly be wrong about that, but Chrono Adventure definitely gave me that vibe.

    15. Sean

This forum is really no fun

    16. Wraith

Sonic fangames arent even good proof that 2D sonic works if we want to go there. Let a professional do it before you write it off

    17. Menace2Society

Dude, you don’t need professionals to show whatever an concept can work or not. Even the smallest of teams can still manage to make even the most bizarre concept shine. There wasn’t anything quite like Minecraft before it’s release.

The reason why I initially thought the whole Sonic-Metroidvania thing could work is because with Chrono Adventure, it had showed how a massive contrast between the two formats. Metroidvanias are all about exploring one huge map and finding secrets within it, while Sonic’s about speeding through a series of levels in the fastest time possible. It’s like mixing two things that don’t really belong together. Thinking about it now, though, I guess there are a couple of ways it could work (like making it more speedrun-oriented and adding waypoints to make backtracking less tedious), but idk. There’s something about the idea that doesn’t mesh well with me

    18. Tornado

I'm amused by how obviously that it wouldn't work because of some irrelevant fan game when one of the highest regarded entries in the entire franchise was absolutely lousy with Metroidvania elements.

Get that shit out of here.

    19. tailsBOOM!

      But there is one 😞

  9. lol it's cheaper to buy the UK Bluray set for the Toy Story trilogy than it is to buy a single movie in the US.

Mawile's Mega Evolution license, however, was not.

  11. Still thinking about Toy Story 4. Ultimately the conclusion I've come to is that I can totally respect it for the messages it was trying to convey, and on paper those same messages can certainly match the caliber of the ones found in the original trilogy. However, TS4's themes were executed in a way that just didn't resonate with me at all. I will concede that I can't fault Pixar for attempting a continuation like this, but for me personally they just screwed up. I don't hate TS4 for existing, or for even trying its best, but I hate how it doesn't do enough to justify itself.

    1. Soniman

      So it's bad

    2. Sean

yeah the movie is fucking gay

  12. I actually really disliked Toy Story 4, I didn't expect that since I was anticipating a good movie whose existence simply wasn't necessary, but the whole production felt scaled back from the quality of the original three and there were so many elements this time that were actively working against my enjoyment of it. I almost wish I could un-see it.

    1. Dejimon11

      Wanna go into detail?

    2. Lord-Dreamerz

I haven't seen it yet. But the ads on TV for sure don't make it look great.

    3. Sean

Yeah, I'll list off some of my biggest problems, in order of priority. Some major spoilers:

      - Bonnie's role made me pretty upset, as did the general themes of the movie. She loses total interest in Woody and doesn't even notice that he's gone at the end when he decides to stay behind with Bo. Before I get anyone rebutting this, I'm perfectly aware that this is realistic behavior for a child. However, this still rubs me the wrong way for a few reasons. First, this is fiction and it really goes against the satisfying, open-ended conclusion of TS3 where Andy passes him along to Bonnie asking to take care of her. Yes, the reality is that she'd probably lose interest in him and the other toys quickly enough due to her age, but this isn't something I want to see happen in a movie anymore than I want to see a film about Andy taking college courses, getting a job, and learning how to do taxes. Second, it's really unfair that it's ONLY Woody, among the main characters, that she neglects. it doesn't cross the line into straight-up maliciousness, but it feels extremely contrived that he would be the only toy of hers that she loses interest in and no longer cares about. It's just not a premise I can stomach. It's not believable when you pit it against previously established notions in the trilogy.

      - Gabby, despite being a subversion of what you'd expect from Pete and Lotso, fell totally flat for me. I didn't like that she did something as awful as taking Woody's voice box against his will and went virtually unpunished for it, not to mention how the movie goes pretty overboard in trying to make her seem sympathetic to the point of refusing to acknowledge her actions and flaws toward the end of the film. I wasn't feeling sorry for her, I was annoyed at how she got away rewarded and scot-free. I get that it ties into the message of "not every child will care about you" that is the reason Bonnie abandons Woody, but there ought to have been better ways to handle this than make her the actual fucking villain of the first half, giving you little to no reason to root for her in the first place or provide any sympathetic qualities until much later. I think Gabby is a great character on paper, but I was left feeling mixed on how I should be feeling about her.

      - Bo didn't end up contributing as much to the movie as I hoped. I wasn't a fan of her revamped role judging from the trailers, but the full movie handles her better than I expected. She gets a lot of screentime, more than anyone else aside from Woody, but it really annoyed me upon realizing that her contribution has mostly to do with the film's message without having an arc of her own. In short, she feels like a tool for Woody's development rather than a character.

      - Aside from Woody, Bo, and Buzz, every other original cast member gets extremely little screentime. Even Buzz feels kind of worthless this time around and simply Woody's right-hand man. TS3 was guilty of this, to be fair, but it had an interesting twist involving Lotso's brainwashing of him, at least. Plus, he and Jessie had really good chemistry in 3 that... somehow gets totally ignored in this movie despite it being a romance between Woody and Bo? Whatever, my point is that Woody is the only character that feels like has any substantial development or focus, overshadowing all the others to degrees that no other movie in the trilogy had.

      - Key and Peele were annoying and nearly all their jokes brought the entire film to a grinding halt more times than I'd like. Keanu's character felt like Ken 2.0. I wish I enjoyed them but I just couldn't figure why they were here other than for the jokes, which I didn't think were very funny involving them.

    4. Stasis

Spot on with everything you said, and the only thing I can really take from the Woody movie is that he always puts others first and it's time he thought about himself. Yay, I guess?

  14. Mysteries of the Sith fucking sucks lol. Jedi Knight had its problems but remained mostly fun, MotS just feels like it doubles down on the stuff I didn't like from JK (poor/unfair enemy placement, obnoxiously obscure puzzles, level design that doesn't properly guide you in the right direction). Also I'm playing on easy (I did JK on medium) and I feel like I'm having a harder time with it 😐

    1. Sean

      Also jesus christ the cutscenes:

These are some of the worst and most unpleasant cutscenes I've ever seen in a 3D game.

  15. Super Mario 64's code has been decompiled. Native ports to other platforms, including PC, is finally possible:

    1. SweeCrue

  16. Finished Jedi Knight, now I'm on the second level of Mysteries of the Sith and I can't even get past the first area with stormtroopers :|

  17. Stranger Things 3 was good. It had its problems especially in the first half but I think it was a general improvement over the second season.

    1. KHCast

I love how they’re making Steve more of a nerd compared to the popular kid jerk he was early on

    2. Sean

      Steve is the best honestly

    3. Speederino

Steve is some of the best character development I’ve ever seen. It’s rare for me to think “this guy is a scumbag” and then later go “holy shit he’s one of my favorite characters”

Next closest I can think of is Pacifica from Gravity Falls but we rarely saw her after she mellowed.

    4. Sean

I was also a Robin fan from the first episode, it usually takes longer for me to latch onto new characters than previously established ones but she complements Steve incredibly well

  18. I'm not into the Switch Lite at all, I would have been more excited for a Pro announcement and price drop for the regular model. Having a D-pad and saving an extra 100 bucks isn't worth giving up all the other unique features.

    1. Wraith

The Pro is probably still coming. I'm expecting it in march

    2. Dejimon11

      Give it a year

    3. Thigolf

I hope it's coming soon, I really want a Pro, man

    4. Sean

I'm a little less excited for it if it's going to cost more than $300.

    5. Speederino

Honestly, just give me an official, non-third-party left joycon with a d-pad and I'll probably be set for a good while longer.

    6. Milo

If the Switch Pro is intended to be a replacement for the original Switch then I can see it priced $300. Buuut if it's a higher-end entry....then yeah, it'll probably cost more.

The bigger question is whether it's going to be saved entirely for 2020, or if it's actually planned for later this year. I'd put money on the former rather than the latter though.

    7. Strickerx5

We’ll get the pro next year probably.

Though, whether it’ll actually be worth a damn is another question entirely. If it’s only a slightly more improved processor where most games won’t even see an actual difference in performance and the only real improvement being the battery life (which is entirely possible if they keep it at $300)... eh. Could easily just be the equivalent of the Xbox One S at that point.

Really though, all Nintendo needs to do with it is come out and say something like “BotW, now in 60fps” and I’d probably have the thing preordered by the end of the damn video.

    8. Vertical Snoop [D.K.]

      Vertical Snoop [D.K.]

I imagine they're waiting for Sony and Microsoft to start talking about the specs for their next-gen systems before getting to work on the Pro so they aren't too far behind.

    9. Milo

@Vertical Snoop [D.K.] I really doubt they'd make a Switch Pro that powerful unless they were making a Switch successor outright (which we arguably won't see until the mid-late 2020s at earliest). Especially so if it's going to be another handheld/hybrid console format, there's a handful of Switch games that can't maintain a consistent standard base performance/resolution (720p) in undocked/handheld mode as it is.

  19. I think ever since I've paid more and more attention to indies - both major stuff like Hollow Knight and minor weird projects like what you see on itch.io - I've been a lot happier with gaming overall because AAA gaming is such a comparatively minor interest to me. It doesn't matter if AAA starts to suck because I'll always be able to find stuff I'm interested in in the indie scene. There's so many good games, in fact, that's it's overwhelming and I lowkey stress over not being able to play even 30% of everything I'm interested in during my lifetime.

    1. Wraith

Yeah gaming is excellent right now imo. AAA is just such a small part of what we have to play that I'm not able to get outraged. I've found 5 or 6 new all time favorite games in the past couple years alone.

    2. Sean

My favorite thing is that almost every single genre is represented in indies. Real-time strategies, roguelikes, classic turn-based JRPGs, 3D platformers, you name it. Even if the AAA industry ignores all of these games, indies will always be there to pick up the slack and make some fans out there happy no matter what.

    3. Kuzu the Boloedge

      Kuzu the Boloedge

In other words, fuck big wig companies.

    4. Sean

Not necessarily, but I won't rely on AAA companies to make me happy.

One of my favorite past times recently is browsing itch.io for weird, random, and cool games that people work on on their spare time. Some of the projects you see on that site are really creative and interesting, and there's merit to be found even in a lot of seemingly ugly and rough-around-the-edges games. It's the secret best gaming storefront if you're interested in limited-budget, off-the-wall creativity that average people like us can come up with.

    5. Milo

Besides Nintendo games, I can't really recall the last game I bought that wasn't on sale. It was probably something I bought for the PS3.

Meanwhile Cuphead's pretty much shot up into being one of my favorite games ever despiten ot having gotten far in it. I don't think I talk about that game as much as I should. Hell I'm even kinda kicking myself for not even done any fanart for it.

    6. Dejimon11

      @Wraith what are they?

    7. KHCast

@Kuzu the Boloedge most of them sure(Activision and EA can definitely fuck the hell off), but there’s a few good ones decent ones that don’t shit the bed constantly.

  20. jediknight01.png

    (Jedi Knight screenshot)
Chunky unfiltered pixels are the only proper way to experience 90s FPSes

I really wish the HUD mod used the original graphics, though. But without it, the numbers are way too fucking tiny to see

  21. What I don't like about Jedi Knight is that it's easy to go from full health and shields to almost dead in a second without me even realizing why. Also the lightsaber seems pretty useless and gets me hurt more often than not due to having to get close to enemies. I wonder if Jedi Outcast is any better with the lightsaber stuff.

    1. Badnik Zero

      Badnik Zero

Jedi Knight 2 is my favorite SW shooter. Lightsaber is highly effective, especially on higher levels. First person saber duels are also the shit. The last one for the Xbox is ok. Jedi Knight 2 is where it’s at.

Quick example - I once jumped over a bunch of Stormtroopers and force pulled them 30 feet into the air. I had it quicksaved so when I loaded into it, about a dozen Stormtroopers fell to their deaths from the ceiling. You can do shit like this all the time in JK2.

    2. Plasme

It's generally agreed that Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy has the best lightsaber combat though.

    3. Badnik Zero

      Badnik Zero

@Plasme You’re probably right. I might think that way because I never got to play it on PC. I didn’t favor the Xbox controller back in the day.

    4. Plasme

I've never played Outcast admittedly, but I do know it has a large and dedicated following.

    5. Sean

I only have two force points so far, feels like I should have more where I am but I'm having trouble finding any secrets even though I feel I'm exploring levels pretty thoroughly as I go through them. I'm on level 6 and it's still easier for me to gun down enemies from a distance.

    6. Plasme

Jedi Academy is actually notorious because the lightsaber is so powerful that guns are useless and never used.

    7. Speederino

Outcast and Academy are way better and far less dated in their design. Lightsaber combat can still take getting used to but once you get the hang of it you're like fwoooooooosh and zzzzzzzzhow and bzzt bzzt crackle skreeeeeeeeeee

@Plasme "Notorious" is an extremely strong word, especially since the game is much more geared towards using the lightsaber than previous games. And there's still plenty of good uses for guns in the early game, where your lightsaber deflection is kinda eh.

    8. Badnik Zero

      Badnik Zero

The force powers come pretty late into Jedi Outcast also. I don’t remember the Dark Forces series too well actually. There is a particularly annoying stage in Outcast, just before force powers kick in, where these snipers just murder you from long distances. Gunning enemies down from a distance is still def a thing in that game.

    9. Sean

Yeah I enjoy the Dark Forces games well enough but they have some big issues regarding navigation and combat against groups of enemies. I can't wait to jump into Jedi Outcast, although I'm debating whether or not to play Mysteries of the Sith after finishing Dark Forces 2.

    10. Speederino

I haven't played it in years, but I remember MotS being kinda brutally hard at times. I'm pretty sure I had an FAQ open during the last level because it was sprawling, needlessly complicated, yet somehow totally empty at the same. It reeked of early 3D game level design, basically.

    11. Sean

D= Well I had to drop down to easy difficulty in Dark Forces in order to finish it, so I probably will end up playing MOTS on easy if it's that difficult. Reviews on Steam don't seem too kind to it, either.

    12. Speederino

Well that *might* be the Steam version. I haven't played these on Steam for years but I know at the time it (and Dark Forces 2) were lacking music for some reason. I guess you'll know if that's still the case or not but I wouldn't be surprised if that's a factor towards bad reviews.

    13. Sean

I bought them on GOG, though I still had to mess around with a ton of files and settings to get it to work properly. It came with the music as .ogg files but I replaced them with higher quality versions anyway.

  22. Dark Jedi 2's framerate makes me feel kinda fucking sick while playing it. Wish there was a full 60fps mod for this game but I haven't found anything like that.

  23. http://cucumber.gigidigi.com/cq/important-announcement/

Cucumber Quest is ending, and the rest of the story won't be finished in comic format. This is so heartbreaking, if understandable considering Gigi's current life commitments.
