  1. Got a copy of GCN Gems Collection, been wanting it on and off since it came out but never got around to it so I'm glad to finally have it, even if there's better ways to play all of the games on it these days haha

also wtf was up with the speed in CD's special stages

I already struggle enough with them in other pre-Taxman versions, these look legitimately impossible for me

I always just cheesed it out by deliberately targetting the time bonus UFOs instead of hitting all the mandatory ones in one fell swoop.

    3. Menace2Society

I’m less concerned about the speed of the special stages and more concerned about that audio quality. That is atrocious.

Was Gems Collection emulation this bad or did the guy who recorded this had really bad recording software?

    4. Sean

@Menace2Society It's not an emulation, it's a port of the 1996 PC version which had lower quality sound effects than the Sega CD version. So the quality you hear here is what it actually is.

    5. Blacklightning

That's the game audio. The music might have been CD quality (no idea if Gems compressed it to fit, but it wouldn't surprise me) but even back in the day it always sounded like it was runing through a broken speaker.

      for comparison

Either way, it's hard as hell on the ears. It just makes me even more grateful for the Taxman remaster.

You can replace CD's sound effects with the Genesis ones in the Steam version and it's good
