  1. Just finished Doom 2016. Ooooo man, that’s a good one. That’s a REALLY good one.

I really enjoyed the ending credits in particular, it felt like I had just finished watching a really intense action flick that didn't let up the entire way through

@PC the Hedgehog Zero Mission, Super Metroid, and Prime 1 are all excellent places to start. ZM, being a remake of the first game, is a shorter experience than the others.

I'm like this but with entire genres. Like I avoided RTSes for years and only recently picked up Warcraft 3 to try to get into it, but it's like my brain isn't wired to do this stuff. I'm sure these games are a lot easier for people who have been playing them most of their life compared to me who only just started after 30 years

  5. Considering it was said each dlc fighter comes with music and a dlc spirit board, and the fact Mario RPG is already repped with a few spirits already, and Reggie’s statement about the dlc being never before seen or expected characters and franchises to Smash, that alone already puts Geno in a unlikely spot for the first fighter pass. Just would come off kinda redundant to have a spirit board that just adds more Mario characters from a series already repped in Smash. And certainly isn’t “new to Smash”. And if his Avatar costume drops with the Hero, yeah that’s a good indication he’s not happening. Even without the “spirits deconfirm” hypothesis, I still don’t see him happening, especially when Nintendo went to Square and got The Hero instead vs a character Sakurai himself likes and has wanted in.

I don't find discussing the chances of a particular character making it in to be a riveting or meaningful discussion anymore

It's how PC games have always worked, I don't really mind it since it avoids disc read errors

I like megas, but I have less of an issue with megas/Z-moves being removed specifically, and more with Game Freak wasting their time on gimmicks that are only around for one generation when they could be using that effort polishing the rest of the game and streamlining so much other shit.

  10. https://kotaku.com/xbox-boss-phil-spencer-says-banjo-in-smash-was-an-easy-1835418742

I'm really confused about a few bits Spencer says here.

    Quote

Obviously we’re one of the biggest third-party publishers on Switch, so we have great relationships with their third-party team.”

Uh...am I missing something here? They've got Cuphead and of course Minecraft is huge (I legit didn't know Microsoft owned Minecraft until I Googled it just now lol), but "obviously we're a HUGE deal on Switch" is stroking the ego a bit much, methinks.

    Quote

Spencer noted that Microsoft has worked with Nintendo for a long time, publishing games on 3DS and Switch, and letting classic Rare games like the Donkey Kong Country series show up on Nintendo back-catalogue services.

I know Rare developed the DKC games but...it's Donkey Kong. Nintendo owns that; did they really require Microsoft's permission to re-release their own IP? Rare or no, I wouldn't think Microsoft had any control over those whatsoever.

It reminds me of when they first purchased Rare thinking they had just bought Donkey Kong   XD

    1. Sean

      Sean

When MS says they're one of the biggest third-party devs on Switch they mean it literally

Nintendo might have needed permission to use anything with Rare's logo in the DKC games

  11. People seem way more hyped for Banjo than the Dragon Quest characters here in the west, so I'm curious: is it the opposite with the Japanese audience? Was Banjo ever that well known over there? Couldn't I just Google that question and save everyone the speculation?

I could, but I'm eating macaroni & cheese so fuck you

  12. Trying to imagine for Sora in Smash, if they’d use 3’s design or the more recognizable 2 outfit. Going off the last 2 reveals I’m inclined to believe 2’s costume and fight style would get priority. Banjo sports his more classic design, and The Hero has alts based on older more recognized characters. So either way, I’d imagine Sora would have his classic/iconic outfits somehow as either the default or alt similar to Cloud.(with maybe different keyblades for each alt? None of the Disney ones probably)

  13. btw any Banjo naysayers on this forum are now welcome to eat crow

Yeah I basically had to eat an entire murder when K. Rool was announced. Didn't think Ridley had a chance either

With Sora I do think he has some slight chance but KH rep on Nintendo is pretty abysmal so I'm not a fan of adding more characters like him and Joker into the mix. also he sux0rz

  20. My predictions for Nintendo:

    - Metroid Prime Federation Force 2

    - Super Smash Bros. for Wii U for Switch (yes that is the official name)

    - Earthbound: Amiibo Festival

    - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (no changes or anything, it's just being released again somehow)

    - Geist Reloaded

    - Nintendo E3 2008 Simulator

    - The Switch Vitality Sensor

That's fair. The issue I care most about is companies killing off online-only games and I'd rather direct most of my anger toward EA, Ubisoft, or MMO companies who do this shit all the fucking time than Epic who at least isn't doing this one thing I hate the most about the game industry. I don't like Epic and stand by my reasons but their store's games are still infinitely more playable than all the dead games out there that I literally can never play again.

Valve is always working on changes and improvements to their storefront, I don't think Epic has had any real effect on how they operate things. Valve in general is pretty recluse and seems to be doing behind-the-scenes stuff all the time without making a big deal about it until they have something to show.

Epic doesn't strike me as very pro-consumer which is why I don't like them. A lot of their touted benefits regarding EGS seem to favor the publishers over the buyers, and they don't even accept Paypal wallet because they pass the credit card charges onto the consumer. The one good thing I've seen come out of EGS is its regional pricing for certain countries, but it's better than Steam in some countries but worse in others, so it's a case by case basis and since I'm in the US this doesn't affect me.

With that said, I'm in a pretty steadfast "GOG/itch.io/other DRM-free storefronts vs. everyone else" camp myself and I always buy from those stores over Steam when I have the chance. Having a game that's DRM-free and doesn't require an account login easily trumps any feature that any storefront can throw at me no matter how nice they sound. The Steam client's features aren't important to me but I understand that they're important to other people, especially stuff like streaming, cloud saves, and Proton for Linux users.

And at the end of the day I don't like Epic because they seem like they think they can brute force their way into my wallet rather than try to earn it as other stores like Steam and GOG have.
