  1. Never played an Alex the Kid game in my life (I do own the Master System games on Wii VC though). Which ones are usually considered the best?

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

The only one I've played for more than 5 minutes is The Lost Stars, am arcade game which I understand is fairly different to the rest of the series. It's good fun though. You for check that out via MAME.

    2. Wraith

Crash was clunkier but I got a little bit more out of it. Spyro is a lot cleaner to play but too slow paced and a little on the easy side for me personally

    3. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

Didn't realise Crash and Spyro were Alex Kidd games =P

    4. Winston

I've only played Miracle World and Enchanted Castle, but I would recommend Miracle World. It can be a bit annoying at times, but I think it's a fun game. I barely remember Enchanted Castle but I probably haven't played it in like fifteen years, so I can't really say if I should recommend it. Maybe if you have Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, give it a try.

  2. Beacon is a cool game but man does it run like shit. Needs more attention I think, there's only a handful of Steam reviews.

  3. Play Rising Dusk

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

I've been reading this as "Rising Ducks".

  4. The itch.io BLM bundle has raised over $3mil and now includes over 1000 games! Among other great stuff, some new additions are Underhero, Octodad, BIT.TRIP Runner 3, Celeste, and They Bleed Pixels.

      SenEDDtor Missile

Wait, do we have to rebuy this thing to get the new additions?

      This is so awesome.

    4. Indigo Rush

      Indigo Rush

Check out "A Short Hike" if you haven't, that one is so relaxing

    5. Indigo Rush

      Indigo Rush

      Also, CELESTE!? DUDE

    6. Sean

Celeste is the game of the generation tbh

    7. Polkadi~☆

      well damn

not only does this support a good cause, but it’s got hella good indie games in the pack, and maybe some unknowns i never thought to try

    8. Sean

As far as games I never played before, I've already sampled some of Rising Dusk, Double Cross, and Stardrop. All very good games so far.

  5. That 700+ game bundle that itch.io is doing for BLM has raised over $700k, well past its initial 100k goal! It'll also be adding more games over time. Highly recommend checking it out, there's a ton of awesome stuff to play for just $5 at the minimum, and it supports a good cause.

    1. Dr. Mechano

      Dr. Mechano

I got it after you linked it yesterday, it's an amazingly good deal and a great cause.

  6. itch.io is doing a game bundle in support of BLM. Pay what you want starting at $5. Has a lot of good gems in it like Oneshot, Oxenfree, Night in the Woods, and A Short Hike.

    Also there's over 740 games.

    1. Wraith

A couple of offensive troll games slipped in so hold off momentarily until that's fixed

    2. Sean

Games aren't added to your library until you choose to download them, and checking Leaf's replies he's already looking into removing them so I wouldn't worry about it.

    3. Sean

Looks like the offending game is gone (not sure if there are any others, I haven't seen anyone mentioning them) so it should be good to buy now.

  7. Bioshock Infinite desperately needs a no-story mode

    1. Jovahexeon Explosive Witch

      Jovahexeon Explosive Witch

Ah, not a fan of the narrative either, I take it?

    2. Wraith

There is a DLC that's just combat rooms and it's probably better than the main game

    3. SenEDDtor Missile

      SenEDDtor Missile

Judging by the story alone, it strikes me as something that's better suited for stealth-styled gameplay with RPG elements/inverse of that, as opposed to the RPG/murder everything semi-strategically that was used for Bioshock 1/2/the actual game.

    4. Sean

The story is bad and its racism themes are some of the worst-handled I have ever seen in a video game

but the gameplay is like a solid 6/10.

  8. Microsoft's BLM statements are some of the only ones I've seen worth a damn as far as companies go. Using the company to promote individuals' viewpoints is a great idea I hadn't thought of before.

    1. KHCast

what’s not to like about this...?

    2. Sean

As far as these standardized responses go I only care about the part where they donated money.

    3. Tornado

I think EA's is nearly as good as Microsoft's

    4. Sean

Yeah that one's good too. In general I like hearing about a company taking action as opposed to posting some blanket statement on social media. Humble is also doing a $1mil fund for black indie game developers, which is great since donations are kind of their thing in general. None of the standardized statements ever bother me (unless it's fucking ActiBlizz we're talking about) but they're just 'nice' and I don't think much of them.

  9. https://www.pcgamer.com/ubisoft-says-trackmania-is-not-subscription-based-you-just-pay-for-it-multiple-times/

"Actually it's not a subscription model but an access to the game for a limited time. You pay for having access to the game for one period and that's it," a Ubisoft rep wrote. "When the time is over, you have to buy the game again for the time that you want to access it again."

    1. Thigolf

      This is beautiful

      Strong Guy

This reads like a the onion article

    3. Polkadi~☆

...th-that is called a subscription, ubisoft

      that is how subscriptions work

    4. I Have Berry!

      I Have Berry!

You're not paying for the game. You just give us your money and then you can have the game for free.

  10. I've been playing Dishonored for the first time and it's great stuff so far. Also been doing another run through Prey 2017. Someone at 2K get Arkane on BioShock 4 pls

  11. Sean

    Happy birthday Ferno!!

    1. Ferno

      Thanks Sean!

  12. Sean

    Happy birthday Ferno!!

  13. Just finished Mafia 2 and that was a big fucking disappointment. None of the characters are worth caring about and the story goes absolutely nowhere. Coupled with all the removed features including elements from Mafia 1, I can't see myself ever replaying this.

      O RLY?

    3. Sean

      YA RLY

    4. Polkadi~☆

    5. Sean

It probably looks better on a Pro than the base model which I'm using, but it's rather pretty even though I wish it ran at 60fps.

    6. Kuzu

      >Girls shoots you for forgetting a date

      Aight, I'm sold.

  15. I never really thought about who the worst Mega Man character would be, but now that I am it's definitely Sigma

      Hey Lumine's design was cool

And that's about it he was shallow as a pond.

      But I love him ♥

    4. Sean

He only looks like that because Capcom couldn't get the rights to Skeletor's likeness.

    5. Dejimon11

I don’t really hate or dislike anybody but I’d have to say Duo

    6. Ryannumber1Scarer

I don't think Sigma's that bad, at least for the first few games. Around X4 though, he becomes downright awful. They should've killed him off in X3.

    7. Sean

@Dejimon11 And to make matters worse Duo.EXE was awful and starred in the worst BN game. In MM8 though he's just kind of whatever to me

  16. Just finished playing the original Mafia. Great game, but frustratingly difficult. I think it could have used a straight remaster as opposed to a full-blown remake (which I'm not terribly not excited for, due to Hangar 13's reputation with this series). I'd really like if this game had quicksaves or at the very least a slightly more forgiving checkpoint system, the ability to refill health between checkpoints, difficulty options, and so on to alleviate the stress of having to do missions nigh-perfectly.

Underneath the jank and difficulty though, it has a really enjoyable story and cast, and I loved driving around the city even if there weren't many side tasks to speak of. I really don't want to see 2K turning this game into a bad GTA knockoff the way Mafia 3 was, so I'm skeptical of how it'll compare.

    1. Tarnish

Haven't played that game since I've beaten it when it came out. I remember being blown away by the faces and facial expressions. Bet if I looked at it now, it wouldn't be as impressed.

From what I recall, my frustrations were less with the difficulty (tho that definitely was part of it), and more about other things. Like my car getting shot near the fuel tank so it would leak fuel, especially if the car was tied to the mission or I was in a hurry. Or running out of ammo. Then I recall a boring part of a mission where you had to unload boxes/crates from a truck or something. That racing on a race track was frustrating at first as well.

  17. So Mystic Realm was updated for SRB2 2.2 recently, and the new Tempest Valley theme fucks.

    1. Adamabba

Oh snap I gotta play that. Been a while since I played SRB2, I'm sure there's a ton of cool new 2.2 mods by now.

I've been very close to 100% in it for a few months I was just too lazy to get the last few emblems that're hidden in the challenge stages and never went back since lol

    2. Sean

I don't think Mystic Realm holds up very well (given that it was the first level pack ever made for SRB2 and all) but I'm thinking about giving it another run for nostalgia's sake and because I appreciate them redoing the music for this release.

lol yeah 2.2's emblems can be brutal. I got all of them but I can't see myself doing it ever again. Fang's emblem in Aerial Garden sucks.

  18. Something I didn't know until now is that the Wonder Boy: Dragon's Trap remake on PC contains a rom of the original Master System version. Always low-key regretted not picking this version up on the Wii shop before it closed, so it's neat having legal access to it nowadays.

  19. lol Mafia 2 definitive edition is trash.

    (loud warning)

  20. There are teenagers who have played Final Fantasy XV and weren't alive when it was announced.

  21. "You can't say for certain that the prototype we saw of Sticker Star would have been better than what we ended up getting"

    lol I've seen everything now.

    1. Wraith

People who defend these games did not play them.

    2. Chili Dawg

      Chili Dawg

      that's actually true tho

sticker star was horrible but for all we know so was the early stuff

i mean i kinda doubt it, traditional battles alone prolly woulda made it better than the final product

but for all we know the new formula was invented because they were doing a really bad job going forward with the old one

    3. Chili Dawg

      Chili Dawg

that is however a pretty random and useless thing to say because in theory any game could have been better or worse at one point than it ended up being so it's all hypothetical

  22. Disappointed that the Peanuts Movie didn't set any trends.

    1. Strickerx5

      It did in my heart.

    2. Dejimon11

I thought Captain Underpants' animation was inspired for it

    3. I Have Berry!

      I Have Berry!

Peanuts was always about defying trends, not setting them.

It's what makes the original Christmas show a diamond in the rough even today: No Santa, no romances, no any of that; just a down-to-earth mellow story that says that it's not about the commercialization of it all. That never stopped anyone from commercializing it anyway, including that show itself since it sponsored Coke Cola to begin with.

    5. Polkadi~☆

i get what you're trying to say, supah berry, but it doesn't work in the context of this topic

this is about how the unique animation style for peanuts, as well as other nice things the film did, hadn't inspired other studios to try new ideas from those things

shoot, peanuts was a nice low-stakes story among other children's movies and i really appreciate that, but low-stakes doesn't sell

  23. I'm going to be making an active effort to update the free video games topic more frequently, especially with the COVID-19 situation going on that's prompting many of these giveaways as of late. As always, anyone can contribute, and just about any mention of free games (free to own, free weekend, or normally free games that you'd like to recommend to others) is welcome!

Good spot with the Lego game! Didn't know about that one and it appears to be free worldwide!

    2. Sean

Yeah! Forgot to mention that it'll redirect to your regional store so it's not just the US.
