Oh yeah that one had me in stitches.

Have you seen the Sonic Adventure 2 one?

And what do you know... the perfect shape.

  2. I don't want to hear this from someone who just the other day tried to pull the "unpleasable fanbase" card and also acted extremely rude to others explaining their issues with the film and/or design, because all YOU care about is having this thread all to yourselves to gush about the film. So you can knock this shit off.
  3. Can some of you seriously not go for one day without spamming this topic with "I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE TRAILER!!" posts? I'm really tempted to lock this topic until the trailer drops. We also don't need updates on every single Twitter rando's impressions or whether or not they're going to see the trailer/movie in advance so please cut that out too.
  4. Something that bugs me for some reason is Sonic's more realistic jump animation in some games. Like how Sonic's jumpball animation is only perfectly spherical when spin-dashing in SA2, and how they just got rid of it entirely starting with Heroes for a while. And while I'm at it, I don't like Sonic uncurling during a jump, something that also appeared in the 2D games starting with Advance 2. It's just really weird-looking

    1. Celestia

      Celestia

I appreciate the modern games avoiding most of this (he does uncurl in the boost trilogy but look...pobody's nerfect). I don't like the aura thing that SA2 started and has continued to this very day outside of LW though. I actually like how he looks like a buzz saw in Forces but I wish they had just added like...normal spikes to his LW jumpball.

    2. Sean

      Sean

Yeah the SLW jumpball is weird to me because it's basically that one single frame in the Genesis games that's a solid blue with no spike texture. Feels like it needed more animation to it

The aura thing reminds me of Sonic's spinning animation in Sonic X which was early 2000s CG and always looked out of place to me lol. I saw someone on Twitter mention that the only time he does a "normal" spin attack is in episode 5 in the fight with Knuckles, and I'm never gonna get over that fact

    3. Celestia

      Celestia

I'm surprised LW didn't incorporate the flickering between states like that since he even has a normal spinning animation (for the weird somersault move, but also when hitting the huge planetoid springs among other instances I think).

  5. The Vertebreaker situation really sucks, hope Stealth can turn things around and salvage the campaign eventually.

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

I'm really not surprised. The enormous funding goal was probably a turn off to many potential backers, regardless of the fact that the game looks brilliant.

    2. TheOcelot

      TheOcelot

Yeah, it's a shame. Vertebreaker looks promising.

If Taxman was working on this it probably would have a much better chance of reaching the funding goal within the time.

  6. Lopes was the wrong person for Jacques to blame, and he did it in a way that utterly vilified him as opposed to bringing up his issues in a reasonable manner. He should have directed his ire towards Sega and he was very flippant towards users attempting to correct him in the Twitter thread (before he deleted it), telling them they were wrong without explaining why at all. All of my respect for Jacques and his work has withered away and he should apologize to Lopes, who was dragged through the mud for all the wrong reasons. If not then that bitter old man can fuck off.
  7. This is far too vague of a question for anyone to give meaningful help based on what you've said. Plus, because this is a fan modification, I believe your time would be better spent contacting the developer of this mod for any issues you have. If the mod creator has a channel for their works, such as on YouTube or GameBanana, I suggest you shoot them a private message or comment about your issue and see if you can work something out from there.
  8. Richard Jacques' response to the remix on Twitter is fucking disgraceful. All my respect for him and his work has crashed through the floor.

At the very least if you didn't like it and in his profession must give constructive criticism fine, but he didn't even do that. Just completely flung Lee's name in the mud. From what I saw, Lee didn't directly credit him or TJ at first, but even she endorsed it. And that wasn't even posted on his own Twitter to begin with.

If the real problem is between him and SEGA and his words paraphrasing that "this wasn't the first time" about not getting proper credit why unceremoniously bring Lee and his sister down like that?

    2. Sean

      Sean

Going by the replies in his Twitter thread, it's clear he doesn't care about being wrong about the situation. He has a bone to pick and is coming off as a monumental jackass over absolutely nothing.

What makes it worse for me is I remember people attacking his Burnout track he did for SaASRT, where he made it clear this was his interpretation. Now someone remixes his track he attacks him.

    4. TCB

      TCB

I get wanting to be credited for your contributions and SEGA can be lazy about it here and there, but he went after the wrong party in such a tasteless way.

Yeah we get it now you got beef. You got beef with the wrong party from what I see here.

Honestly, this discredits anything he has to say as far as I'm concerned.

And besides, he was credited, his name just wasn't stamped over the video--it's in the description.

So I guess Sonic R music is going into the vault right alongside Sonic 3's stuff.

    9. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

Kind of ironic, I love R's soundtrack, but Can you Feel the Sunshine has always been the exception for me, and while I don't love the new mix, I find it a bit better with the more laidback groove that Tee gave it.

So someone is claiming the credit was added later. Still not an excuse to go off the deep end at Tee.

Multiple people have tried correcting him saying it's Sega he should be blaming and not drag Tee's name like this, and he's just telling them they're wrong without backing his shit up. He's only doubling down on his resentment towards Tee because he doesn't want to admit he's mistaken. Fucking lunatic.

Ugh I'm so mad/bummed out about this.  Sonic 3D is absolutely one of my favourite soundtracks of all time and now it's ruined forever.  Was always excited to see Richard dip back into composing for the modern games, I even liked some of his Boom stuff. He might save himself for me if he apologises.

  9. I can't believe Sega would just go ahead and confirm the Sonic R remake like that.
  10. So what do you guys make of Sonic Underground? Are people who wrote it off due to it not being anything remotely like Sonic not giving it a fair shake, because it dared to set out and do its own thing divorced from any other previous incarnation? Why is it okay to hate Sonic Underground but not this movie Sonic Underground made Sonic's design more accurate to his original JP one (without the mohawk) compared to AoStH and SatAM, and people still think it's the worst of the DiC cartoons by a country lightyear. The design doesn't mean shit.

  14. Got a copy of GCN Gems Collection, been wanting it on and off since it came out but never got around to it so I'm glad to finally have it, even if there's better ways to play all of the games on it these days haha

    1. Sean

      Sean

also wtf was up with the speed in CD's special stages

I already struggle enough with them in other pre-Taxman versions, these look legitimately impossible for me

    2. Blacklightning

      Blacklightning

I always just cheesed it out by deliberately targetting the time bonus UFOs instead of hitting all the mandatory ones in one fell swoop.

    3. Menace2Society

      Menace2Society

I’m less concerned about the speed of the special stages and more concerned about that audio quality. That is atrocious.

Was Gems Collection emulation this bad or did the guy who recorded this had really bad recording software?

    4. Sean

      Sean

@Menace2Society It's not an emulation, it's a port of the 1996 PC version which had lower quality sound effects than the Sega CD version. So the quality you hear here is what it actually is.

    5. Blacklightning

      Blacklightning

That's the game audio. The music might have been CD quality (no idea if Gems compressed it to fit, but it wouldn't surprise me) but even back in the day it always sounded like it was runing through a broken speaker.

Either way, it's hard as hell on the ears. It just makes me even more grateful for the Taxman remaster.

Just spitballing ideas but some visionary who learns about cross-dimensional travel decides to go against the idea of hell being an inhospitable plane of suffering and sets up shop, promising an escape from divine judgment and mortality. Residents of the hell city travel there thinking they can escape their sins and beat death to the punch, like maybe they invent some technology where you literally can't die if you're in hell (since where would you even go). This goes about as well as anyone with any sense can predict and the city is just one big ironic hell for everyone there and the player is trying to escape or something.

Also the imagery of hell doesn't have to be the usual fire and brimstone kind with murderous demons. I was thinking something dreary, soul-crushing and suffocating to contrast the comforting design of the city itself. It should be something incredibly otherworldly, and can't possibly exist on any planet. Something that gets people's sins into a feedback loop and they can't escape from. Bourgeois citizens living in that city initially might get a kick out of conquering such a place, thinking they don't have shit to worry about after their time on the mortal spectrum is up.

I was half-joking when I made this status but I think this could be a way more interesting idea than suggestions I've seen of people wanting the next BioShock to be set in space (space is a really boring idea for this series considering how much it's been done in science fiction as a whole) or in Rapture again. I'm also not craving another BioShock game, I honestly have no informed clue on where the series can go after the last three games. If there had to be another game, then the only setting I can imagine that could top the last two would be something in another dimension, an entirely different plane of existence.

Man what happened to bioshock infinite that everybody went from loving it when it first came out to being disappointed

    5. Wraith

      Wraith

I expect the third game to jist be set in rapture again. I like what Infinite tried to do with the IP but it just wasn't very good and I think it may have killed the series's drive for risktaking.

  17. We got a thread already where you can discuss these protos:
  18. You can just go back to sleep if you're that determined to shit on a character based on completely inaccurate information.
  19. Fun fact! ChaosX, the guy who's responsible for P-06, has never played Sonic 2006:

  20. I hate to admit it but P-06 is the first time I've ever felt excited for anything Sonic 2006-related lol, it's a really neat-o conversion and the more I learn about its differences from the base game the more impressed I am by it. The previous PC port was an impressive effort but didn't do much to sway me, and I still wasn't sure of what to make of P-06's first demo back in April. Demo 2 has really made me come around to it though (even if the game itself is still pretty garbo), like it actually feels like a playable product now

    1. Adamabba

i never played 06 before P-06. It was a dope way for me to experience it for the first time lol

    2. JezMM

      JezMM

Just tried Wave Ocean and Flame Core. I find Sonic a bit slippery - I fell off really simple places in Wave Ocean that I've NEVER fallen off in the original, and the opening pathway of Flame Core was even worse to get around than the original - in that I had to slow down after the automated section to get my bearings - here I had to come to a full stop and walk until the camera settled so I could see the way ahead.

Other than that though?  Fantastic stuff, it's a bizarre experience to control Knuckles in particular, who felt AWFUL to play as in the original.  His gliding doesn't suck, his climbing animation doesn't look ridiculous, he gets up onto ledges properly, all his punches and attacks connect... It's bizarre for this to look so near-identical to the original game and yet have him handle the way I expect him to in my mind's eye (within the constraints of 2006's jankiness) rather than just being awful in all manner of ways.  The characters having actual facial animation when talking during the character transitions was an unnecessary but surprisingly nice touch too.

Oh, the spin attack actually damaging enemies rather than HAVING to use homing attacks is also pretty cool.

    3. Sean

      Sean

I slipped off Flame Core's beginning a LOT. I later found out that if you turn around on the platform with the first enemy, you can just jump to that section and skip the entire automated sequence

I also can't figure out how to reliably jump off the swings in Wave Ocean, I managed to do it... maybe three times? Every other time I try to jump from it Sonic just flops off lazily, I never had any problem with timing in SA2 or Generations.
