  1. Reaction: I can't remember if I already did this one (knowing me I probably did), but in SA2, Eggman wasn't actually trying to blow up half of the moon. He was actually trying to carve his face into the moon as a demonstration of his vanity but severely underestimated just how much power the cannon possessed even with only 6 emeralds and he had to make it look like he was deliberately trying to blow up the moon to save face after his blunder. The reason why SA2 appears to portray this as being his true intention is because SA2 (and SA1 by extension) are actually in-universe videogames/retellings of the events from Sonic and his friends' point of view, and they made Eggman out to be more evil than he generally is (not to say he isn't, but they definitely exaggerate certain aspects).

I always had a problem with Eggman's plan in SA2, he seemed like he wanted to DESTROY THE PLANET instead of building Eggmanland, for no good reason other than him being evil. Since the final half of the game has the whole ''Countdown until the Eclipse Cannon Fires'' thing on the cutscenes, implying he's fully prepared to just blow up the planet, and at the Last Story he mentions if he could, he'd have set the Ark on crash course with the planet a long time ago.

@Ratcicle King Really? He actually said that in the game? It's been a while since I've watched the cutscenes for that game, so I don't remember the details.

So your thoughts on my thoughts?

I dunno, even on the dark side story Eggman seemed like he was trying to make this event as epic as possible, I like the idea he just wanted to draw his face on the moon but overdid it,  which would explain why he got mad as the world was panicking and not giving the intended reaction he wanted. But as for the rest, really it just seemed like he thought ''This is it, there's no way to lose'' since lets be fair, in SA2 the evil side was holding most if not all the cards against the heroes, and he became incredibly poetic and egotistical over every single situation for the sake of making it look cooler, like that scene where he gave Shadow a speech of even if he dies, Shadow shall carry on his will and show the world Eggman's might just before his final stage.
