  1. When the media starts talking about how awful Sonic is when he's not pandering to classic stuff and their no friends, no story, no dark stuff mantra and generally offer no actual useful criticism or insight outside of the stuff they've peddled for the past decade or so, I just pretend they're all buck teethed smelly guys with weird cookie monster accents and their general conversations amount to constant circlejerking about how original their Sonic sucks "news" stories are.

    It keeps me sane.

On a different note, is Youtube acting up for you guys, or is it just me? Because some videos seem to be loading slowly or playing sporadically.

This is me being calm. Relatively speaking.

If I was angry you'd be seeing much more intense words than this.

The media is still a problem but their power isn't what it once was, at the launch of Sonic Unleashed or even Sonic Generations.

Far be it for me to get involved with that whole 'fake news' conversation but the fact remains that traditional gaming media outlets like IGN and Eurogamer no longer have a monopoly on the sharing of information. More and more gamers turn to social media and video sites like YouTube to find out whether a game is good or not, leaving the media in the dust.

So the media can prattle on about their 'Sonic was never good' mantra but is nobody is listening to them does it really matter in the long run?

If you're counting on youtubers to suddenly "see the truth" and start liking sonic then good luck lol

@Kintor In a perfect world that might be the case, but it doesn't really change the fact that they still have a considerable influence and a ton of easily misinformed and gullible people willing to lap up anything. It doesn't stop them from passing on poorly written and thought out articles that deliberately skate over anything that doesn't fit into their little charade, regardless of how many facts or details get trampled over in their pursuit of ratings.

@Josh The truth is often a relative concept, a matter of perceptions when what you're talking about is a subjective peice of art, like a video game. After all as the old saying goes: "history is written by the winners". It doesn't matter how much slander the meda has said in the past, they only exist to provide a constant stream of low quality information. Once the media stops being a factor, thanks to social media, what they've said in the past becomes irrelevant. And thus little by little the old enemies of the Sonic franchise disapear from the net...

You DO know more of the Sonic hate nowadays comes from people like gamegrumps playing his games for laughs on youtube than anything, right?

@Josh Yeah I know. I just consider the media to be an overall term for traditional and online stuff.

They're both covering news and make articles, just the means of distribution are different.

@Josh Perhaps, which just goes to show how the traditional gaming media is losing their power. When those morons at GameGrumps can get more attention then IGN could ever dream of.

At any rate, I simply wanted to illustrate that the changing nature of the World Wide Web is elimnating one problem for us, by ensuring the decline of the media. I think that new post-media landscape offers better opportunities for the Sonic franchise. Because while GameGrumps is annoying they don't have that fascade of authority that places like IGN relied upon, which is to our advantage.
