  1. The Sonic franchise is the only franchise I know of where people will make up ridiculous rationalizations to justify why things that would be perfectly fine, or at least can work in other media with similar elements, would somehow be too dark and edgy for Sonic, even if it means completely throwing actual logic, critical thinking, or even just bloody having an imagination out the window.

No, that's not it. I don't care if he reads the comic or not.

What I'm talking about is that from my perspective, he refuses to even try to recognize the merits, or at least the potential of certain elements of certain Sonic games purely because it clashes with his single-minded preference for Classic Sonic. Even when arguments are made that actively seeks compromise between the Modern and Classic elements, trying to blend them together in a way that feels cohesive and appeals to a wider range of people without alienating too many people, he still refuses to accept it. He claims that it's out of a desire to maintain what he believes Sonic should only be, but from my perspective it only seems like he just doesn't want anyone to like any variant of Sonic except his own.

the sonic franchise is the only franchise i know where people take a disagreement on the proper tone of the series as some kind of dishonest conspiracy to make the series bad

    4. Wraith

You gonna do this every time Sonic Forces shows up even if it's not really related to what's going on with the game

Well if the only response you ever give to any idea that isn't purely aligned with your own is "it's bad, it's shit, don't even bother", then why should you expect me to change my response?

    6. Wraith

that means both of you are wrong for having the same pointless argument all the time

No, it means one of us is trying to get their point across and the other doesn't want to listen at all.

    8. Diogenes

ah yes, i should learn to agree with things i don't actually like, because

    9. KHCast

I think Edd's more talking about your lack of looking for a compromise, not so much that you don't like what others like

is that the excuse people use now when they don't even bother seeing eye to eye anymore in a discussion lol
why even be on a forum then

      @KHCast YES, THANK YOU!

That's the point I was trying to get across but in my anger, sleep deprived, and nervous because of something important I had to do today state I couldn't articulate it properly

Well, one's thing for sure, on both ends this is another good case for cynicism is more a detriment than actual good.

      Keep it skeptical.

    13. Diogenes

what's a compromise here going to gain me? it's not like we're brainstorming for an actual game.

    14. Clades Jin

because you're on a bloody discussion forum :V

@Diogenes Respect and a more pleasant conversation for starters.

    16. Diogenes

yeah, and i discuss. i'm not obligated to compromise on ideas i have not been convinced about.

    17. Kuzu

If you're sleep deprived and angry, then perhaps you shouldn't be posting on a forum to begin witb and actually get some sleep.

It's hard to convince you when you refuse to actually be convinced, especially when others far more intelligent and articulate than me have made a similar case to mine and far better explained.

    19. Diogenes

"a more pleasant conversation" where I have to constantly betray my ideas to keep other people happy isn't my idea of a good time

like, shit, it's not as if I don't consider other ideas. but after so many years of this series and these arguments I am pretty set in my ways and it's going to take some damn good arguments to uproot my positions. if I don't see those arguments? then I keep on believing what I believe.

    20. KHCast

@Diogenes Out of curiosity, have you ever had a change of view on anything Sonic from someone with a different stance, or compromised a middle ground solution? Honestly curious since I only think I've seen you in constant disagreement and arguments

    21. Clades Jin

      Clades Jin

Then why are you actually here though
You're not going to find those arguments from atop that imaginary hill you're looking down from

    22. Kuzu

Clearly Dio is a Baby boomer looking down on millenials. Fucking millenials, you ruined Sonic.

    23. Diogenes

@KHCast probably, yeah? like, there have been so many arguments over the years. i can't possibly keep track of specifics. but my opinions have shifted around over time, and this board has certainly been a large factor in that.

@Clades Jin to discuss. what do you expect me to be doing, exactly? i'm not trying to be elitist about this, I just need convincing arguments if I'm going to change my stance, same as (I would expect) everyone else. and in general the arguments for more serious stuff, I have not found compelling, the arguments for more classic stuff, I have.

What's the point of discussing if you're not willing to compromise for the sake of discussion? it just makes you look intellectually dishonest. I'm not telling you that you should abandon your ideals for the sake of dicussion, but looking at things from an objective perspective can give you a fresh perspective, that you can then apply to your original ideals, rather than staying cemented in what only you think is good and bad in the discussion. There's also nothing wrong with a thought experiment once in a while.

If you still disagree with the idea afterwards, that's fine, but don't brush off someone for it. It only makes them frustrated and makes you, once again, look intellectually dishonest. Tell them why you disagree, or if you have already and can't be bothered to retype it, give an abridged version. And if you can't be assed to do even that, just don't reply to it.

I get typing a sassy reply but there's no point if you've agitated the user and continue doing so.

    25. Diogenes

okay you have basically described what i already do (save that I do snark more than is necessary, though I don't think too excessively), but apparently that hasn't been enough because I still haven't been swayed from my mostly-classic leanings yet.

e: and when I do snark, it's probably about something I've already argued a hundred times and nothing new has been brought to the table

      Clades Jin

      Fair enough then.
