  1. I stopped make status updates about political issues and real life events because they make me crazy, they're more often than not, depressing and other times just f*cking tedious.

I want to make an exception this one time. Seeing the public react to the tragic events of a Fire Fighter losing his business which was his dream he never even got to open. It was burnt down and looted.

As of typing this, it's raised above $437,000. I don't know if that'll be enough to try again but it does rekindle my hope for humanity.

Historically rioting, vandalism, looting, destruction has always been an effective tool for marginalized groups when protesting. Civil rights did it, stonewall did it, they’re doing it in Hong Kong right now. “Peaceful protesting” is not always the solution. After being a bit more educated on that, I’ve personally lessened my black and white view on this subject a bit more and can understand why it’s done. Especially when done against large corporations prioritizing wealth over lives(plus, far as I can tell, none of the targets or Walmart’s mass looted have closed down or doubled down work for employees), and especially when done against establishments playing a role in the oppression and fear permiating these communities.

That being said, I think it’s best effectively done when you aren’t destroying local community members local businesses. That really sucks for the guy.

Gofundme is often a depressing highlight of how many people are needlessly suffering from ridiculous medical bills and countless tragedies, but I think alongside being able to post the bail for arrested protesters, this is one of the brighter spots of the community as a whole coming together and standing directly behind the people affected and against circumstance and oppression. It isn't an endless band-aid solution that can fix all of society's problems by existing, but it's definitely a ray of hope in the dark as far as I'm concerned, and I'm just glad I have a way to actually help out in the first place tbh
