  1. A follow up from the update I made this morning.

    https://secure.avaaz.org/en/community_petitions/Walt_Disney_Marvels_Disney_refuse_SpiderMan_headstone_for_Ollie_Jones_sign_petition_ma_help_change_their_mind/

Several YouTubers have created videos about Disney's horrible decision and one article had a link to a petition that was started by Ollie's uncle.

I know petitions rarely work but maybe a heavy dose of backlash will get them to reverse the decision?

    P.S. Fuck Disney.

It isn't really Disney's fault though. The decision is awful, but there's precedent behind it, as explained here:

      (it's in the comments)

Supposedly, if you allow one case of a trademark go unchallenged, as would be the situation here - you are relinquishing your trademark, which means any company could go unchallenged in making tons of knock-off products using Spider-Man's image, and Disney wouldn't be able to touch them legally. It seems to be a "all or nothing" matter.

Still sucks that the law works like that, I fully believe they should be allowed to put Spidey on the tombstone.

There's lots of reasons to hate Disney but this ain't one of them for me

@Ryannumber1gamer Really? That sounds like a deeply flawed law. I'd always figured giving one person/company/party permission is just for that single person/company/party.

Fairly certain that's copyright law. Trademark law on the other hand seems to be if you let one case slide, it basically invalidates it.

Just learned about a story from last year in which Marvel granted permission for Iron Man to appear on a child's gravestone.

      This is really confusing...
