  1. Heh, it didn't take me long to make my first mistake while attempting to record my first ever 'Let's Play.'

I forgot to click record. I wanted to record the opening of the game which surprisingly lasted 30 minutes. lol

    ….

    ….

    ….

    FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-

  2. I'm thinking of having The Lair Princess and the Blind Prince being my first ever Let's Play.

I didn't want to just play all the big main titles and choose something a little more niche. Plus it's a cute game and I like the visual style.

  3. I'm watching this interview with some of the developers of Donkey Kong Country for its 25th Anniversary. It's 1 hour and 15 minutes long.

  4. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/hand-drawn-documentary-finishing-fund#/

Any fans of 2D animation over here that would be interested in funding a documentary about it?

  5. Wow. Just watched a guy read a real article from a real gaming website in which the "journalist" wanted to test if the Joy-Con will still work if he shoves it up his arse. (It didn't.)

    Modern journalism, folks.

I'm not linking that shit. They get paid by view count and I ain't gonna encourage the stupid.

We live in an era where telling game jounalist where they can put their games can't even be used as an insult

  6. What....what is this?

Based on the tags, it's some kind of....mobile game?

  7. ….Oh. It just hit me that I've felt the betrayal of someone I thought was a friend in the past few months and the betrayal of my own sister this past week.

    Happy Holidays are here, indeed....

Welcome to the club. I managed to patch up the friend thing for me but my sister despite living in the same house as me has not spoken to me for at least 3 years, going on 4.

  8. I'm not much of a Zelda theorist but I have been watching videos from others that are.

One went into detail about the eccentric character from BotW. Kilton.

    Kilton.jpg

It made some connection that I never noticed and was never actually part of the theory I saw. It led me to my own theory.

Could Kilton be a Twili? He dabbles in dark magic, has a very dark skin tone and unique body shape, lastly he never appears during the day. Light hurts people from the Twilight Realm after all.

What do you think? Is it too absurd?

  9. My brother told me what I needed and I successfully recorded myself playing the Switch.

I edited a Smash Bros fight to only contain the actual fight. It's my practice using the software and doesn't contain my voice. Their isn't anything special about the video or anything.

What did you use to record? Capture card?

    2. DanJ86

      DanJ86

Yep. Specifically the Elgato HD60 and the software it recommended I used called Game Capture HD.

  10. Does anyone know if it's normal for game demos to be taken off line?

I wanted to check something from MK11 but it's not worth buying the whole game for. I could've sworn a demo of the game was released but I couldn't find it.

    1. Failinhearts

      Failinhearts

MK11 has free weekend trials, not demos. So on some weekends of the year, the full MK11 game will be free to play. Same applies to shooters like Overwatch.

      DanJ86

Ah, that makes sense. Darn, I might need to find an alternate way to learn what I need. I'm not forking over 50 or 60 bucks just to check how long those annoying brutal moves last.

I could use footage to work out the time they take but it would help prove my point if I had footage that doesn't belong to somebody else so I can show the results. ^^

  13. Forced to take sleeping pills due to the insomnia I've been dealing with over the past week.

But....they didn't work?! At least for the first night. Had blood tests that found nothing too.

    Ugh...😖

  14. Watching videos of classic games reminded me that I was creeped out a lot over various N64 games.

Parts like Mario 64's Chain Chomp and the Eel. The massive Clanker from Banjo-Kazooie. The Redead from Ocarina of Time and the Moon from Majora's Mask.

Those are just some I can remember from the top of my head.

I recall never wanting to go to the Big Boo's Haunt area at all. I actually somehow thought I glitched the game (I actually never got enough stars to make them appear) so that the Boos never appeared in the courtyard, which was reliving.

Also, the inital hub world of Glover

      images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTTqct9j-VnBaUf10-tFbx

Good gravy... In the first few times I played it, I would never actually go through the game normally, this is a big reason why. I'd use the level select cheat to skip straight to the finished hub just so I can play around in peace. If I did visit that place, I'd mute the volume so I'd avoid having to hear that hideous laughing...

(Though Glover's scream when the ball is destroyed is even worse for me)

  15. Perhaps you're all tired of this COPPA talk. I failed to understand parts of it so I'm lucky that lawyers are also content creators.

This video doing the rounds sounds important.

I'm not interested in protecting YouTube and Google, they both appear more scummy with each passing day. But I do want to help the content creators that rely on the income from it. They create some amazing stuff.

  16. I knew about the level select and debug codes for Sonic 1, 2 and 3 but what I didn't know was that Sonic 3 and Knuckles has a debug and level select too.

I just learned about it while watching Son of a Glitch.

  17. I've been playing ScareScraper on Luigi's Mansion 3, Online. The game runs pretty smoothly most of the time.

….Unless all the Luigi's are fighting together.

  18. I'm confused with how society has changed so drastically.

    Are stereotypes considered racist now?

I always thought they were just lazy tropes that still had the potential to be an interesting character.

    1. JezMM

      JezMM

Kinda confused by the question.  Stereotypes aren't inherently racist, but there are such things as racist stereotypes.

    2. Tarnish

      Tarnish

Didn't you get the memo? "Everything is racing, everything is sexist and you have to point it all out."

    3. JezMM

      JezMM

^ Just so you know, jokes like this empower those who want to belittle the people who are calling out the real, harmful bigotry in the world. A racist reads something like that and will consider themselves validated and you to be their ally.

    4. Harkofthewaa

      Harkofthewaa

Honestly, I think part of the problem is that people allow themselves to get offended by the stupidest of things just so they have an excuse to be perpetually pissed all the time. If it's not a stereotype than it's something someone said or what they're wearing or hey Trump tweeted oh it's too quiet today let's stir up something from ten years ago or... well you get the idea. People just have too much hate in their hearts these days.

    5. DanJ86

      DanJ86

Tarnish wasn't making a joke. I've seen people react to all kinds of random things while claiming racism. They seem to mostly hang around twitter or write blogs insulting everyone. I do agree that doing so makes it harder to determine the real ones.

In terms of what I was talking about. A student had watched some of the classic Disney movies and was complaining about them being "racist." (She was a white, UK, Instagram girl btw.)

One example she mentioned was King Louie from Jungle Book.

    6. Your Vest Friend

      Your Vest Friend

And...quite a number of old Disney films were racist, even if just from ignorance and perpetuating racial stereotypes at the time.

I mean Aristocats came out right after the Jungle Book and has one of the most egregious examples in the entire animated library.

    7. Harkofthewaa

      Harkofthewaa

*Cough* Song of the South *cough*

    8. Ryannumber1Santa

      Ryannumber1Santa

I mean, some of them are racist. There's no denying that. The reason they're racist is they were made in a completely different era where values was entirely different, and what might've been fine back then is not fine now, and for good reason.

Infamous examples include Disney's Song of the South, which is based around black slavery, while another example is Looney Tunes' Censored Eleven which are very highly racist to all different kinds of people, including black people, Japanese people, and so on so forth. Tom & Jerry also has an infamous example in Mammy Two Shoes, due to being seen as a sterotypical black housekeeper.

And don't get me wrong - there's a reason people don't like these being censored, people don't like them being forgotten, censored, or lost because they want to keep them for the sake of history and preservation because for better or worse, they were representative of the time period, but in no uncertain terms - quite a few of these older cartoons are totally racist, and it's why they'll have openings from a popular actor explaining the history, the time period, and explaining that the values expressed in these cartoons are unacceptable by today's standards, but should still be preserved in it's entirety for the sake of history instead of censored.

Granted, I don't really see how King Louie is considered racist, Louis Prima is his voice actor and he's from New Orleans, and that's about it. King Louie doesn't even have any negative sterotypes, he's just a fun loving jazz swinger who wants to be more like a man.

    9. Your Vest Friend

      Your Vest Friend

@Harkofthewaa I mean there is that, but I was talking more around the late 60's to show that the issue didn't go away as soon as Disney realised Jim Crow was not okay*. Heck, I'd argue the worst case of racism wasn't even that, Peter Pan's terrible with it.

*I say this, but there's still merchandise to this day featuring the actual Jim Crow and his cronies from Dumbo.

    10. DanJ86

      DanJ86

I was certainly aware of some of the questionable stuff that was made back then. The King Louie thing threw me off.

while I don't think it's right to bash white people which is what some websites have been doing a lot as of late. I also don't think it's a white persons place to tell anyone what's racist.

On a related note, I recall an article mention that Whoopi Goldberg would like Songs of the South to be brought back in some way.

      Here it is. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/whoopi-goldberg-wants-disney-bring-back-song-south-start-conversation-controversial-1946-film-154030256.html

    11. JezMM

      JezMM

If white people aren't allowed to point out racism then it makes it very hard for them to be allies to those who suffer from said racism.  Now there's definitely people out there who go too hard and make issues out of non-issues, but there are also those who are informed by the people who suffer from racism and are simply trying to spread the word.  It isn't always obvious which is the case, which is why sometimes you have to do a little critical thinking of your own.

I was simply criticising Tarnish's "oh EVERYTHING is offensive" rhetoric - of course everything isn't offensive, but saying stuff like that makes people stop caring about the stuff that truly is.  And yeah, people who make a big deal over nothing - white people who decide something is offensive on a minority's behalf when widespread opinion of that minority is that the thing isn't offensive - those people are also doing harm, as such behaviour reinforces the "everything is offensive" angle.  But yeah, nothing is more perpetually reinforcing than literally saying that angle lol.

    12. Tarnish

      Tarnish

If it wasn't clear, I was quoting Anita Sarkeesian who infamously sees basically everything problematic in the world and loves to preach about how everything has to change.

I personally don't mind offensive stuff one bit. Trying not to offend anybody is an impossible goal, because it's guaranteed you'll find at least 1 person offended. Getting offended by something is part of life, you better learn to deal with it.

    13. JezMM

      JezMM

I definitely find Anita to be an example of going overboard but I'd also be very surprised if that's an exact quote of hers lol.

Miss me with the "it's impossible so there's no point" bullshit though. It implies that you do care, but it's just too hard.  Fact is, people who care know that it's an impossible task, but they try their best anyway in spite of that.  It's not about being perfect, it's just about making an effort to show consideration and empathy where and when you can.

    14. Tarnish

      Tarnish

And no, I'm implying that trying to appease a minority at the expense of the majority is stupid. There are people out there who think you shouldn't be able to joke about certain things, say certain things, have certain kind of characters in video games, wear certain kinds of Halloween costumes, etc. Would you really try to appease these kind of people at the expense of the majority? Because that's just insanity. Have fun walking on eggshells for the rest of your life then.

    15. JezMM

      JezMM

It's not about minority vs majority though, it's about "hey is my ability to joke about this thing more important than the fact that it upsets people? Do I still want to joke about it knowing it upsets people?  Is this a joke against a group of people that would validate the kind of people who would actively go out and bully/harass/fucking murder those people?"

Frankly I must be good at walking on eggshells because I find it startlingly easy to not prioritise my own enjoyment over avoiding the suffering of others.

    16. Tarnish

      Tarnish

You do you. But just don't expect others to do the same.

    17. JezMM

      JezMM

I guess my final thought to you would be likewise, don't expect others to "just learn to deal with it" re: being offended over certain thing(s), since after all, it's not like you did if you were never offended by said thing(s) in the first place.

  20. I had no idea that Sonic 1 was ported to the GBA about the time the systems was reaching it's end. I couldn't find any mention of a European release either.

Most reports say the game was ported very badly.

It's hard to compare the sounds as they play at the same time. But you can definitely notice the lack of visibility on the GBA version.

The kicker is that this was released back in 2006.

    Um....the year infamous for Sonic.

    1. tailsBOOM!

      tailsBOOM!

Well Luigi's Mansion was going to be a T-rated survival horror game (Thankfully Nintendo changed that lol)

  22. Wow. I had no emotional reaction to the first trailer but this second one had me laughing several times.

Sonic does look much better and his characterisation is shown off in full force. I kinda liked it.

    1. Little T

      Little T

I'm kind of the other way around. I went from having an extremely negative reaction to the first trailer to almost no emotional reaction to the second (I will admit that I smiled a little at the improved 'screaming shot'). It feels like it's gone from an abomination of a movie to the average generic Hollywood movie it was trying to be XD

      I think I'll pass

  23. Damn. I didn't draw this awesome piece but I feel it's worth sharing as a...kind of late B-Day gift.

I decided to check this video where a Lawyer laid out what the new terms of service are:

From my understanding, it's basically YouTube more or less clarifying the powers that it always had in an easier to understand manner. Be wary of sensationalist videos and articles.

Now as for the other stuff, I dunno.

I see. Thanks for some clarification. Tim (The guy in the first video.) has said on several occasions that he's not a lawyer so I should've remembered that he might not fully understand things.

Yeah, the activity stuff was there but it looks like it broke again. Probably going to take a bit longer to iron out.
