  1. I could see maybe one or two exclusive zones, but I'm expecting both Sonics to share most of their levels. Most people I saw liked having Classic/Modern versions of each stage, and it gives them more opportunities to actually reuse assets, so it's probably cheaper too.

I don't know what is right anymore

  3. I'm personally expecting Super Sonic. We know the game has special stages, so unless the player is collecting something other than the Chaos Emeralds, I don't see why we wouldn't get him. Mania's level design also looks to be more in line with S3&K than CD, from what I've seen, but even if it were mostly molded after CD, I don't think that's a reason Super Sonic wouldn't work. He breaks the design of pretty much every level in all of the classic games, anyway. Platforming sections become too wonky, or skippable, because he accelerates so quickly, and jumps so high. Not to mention stuff like this. Plus Super Sonic's been in the past few games. Colors, Generations, Lost World. 90% sure he'll be in Mania, too.
  4. Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War is kind of a drag. I like so many things about it, but the maps are too big and poorly paced.

  5. You're conflating "being simple" with "being an avatar/not being a character at all." Mario isn't some deep, Shakespearian, multifaceted, complex character, but pretty much every personality trait listed in Jez's post is demonstrated in some way throughout the Mario games. Just because a game takes a minimalist approach when telling a story doesn't mean that everyone in it is going to be flat or devoid of any sort of personality. You don't need cutscenes or a lot of dialogue or drama to convey what a character is about. Conversely, having more in-depth storytelling doesn't always produce deep or interesting characters.
  6. Does being a classic SEGA fan have to include shitposting and flashing my raging Nintendo hate-boner every time I even think I have the opportunity? You should also probably edit your earlier post. "Midget" is a derogatory slur.

I want both, but I'm not a girl, so this isn't directed towards me lol

  8. No idea where this Sakurai rumor is coming from. I seriously doubt they're going to remove scenes because one unfinished animation leaked. What company would waste work like that?

  10. Really dumb, if that's the case, considering how important of a theme "time" is in Sonic Generations. Past stages, past versions of characters, past enemies... and Time Eater. How could Classic Sonic be anything but a younger Sonic? "Enjoy your future. It's gonna be great!" Granted, this is the SEGA that couldn't decide if Eggman Nega and Blaze were from a different time OR a different dimension, and eventually settled on them having separate origins.
  11. To be honest, I'm not really huge on character creators to begin with. Giving the player too much choice can make for an inherently weaker narrative. I've got the same gripe over most WRPG's and the recent Fire Emblem games, so maybe it's just me. If there are custom characters in Sonic Forces, I'm interested in how much player choice is able to affect gameplay. There's a lot of potential in a concept like that but I don't really trust Sonic Team to do it well. That, and there's the obvious aforementioned stigma against shitty Sonic OCs.
  12. What on earth are you talking about? That has nothing to do with why Colors received the praise it did. It wasn't relative- people liked it because they thought it was a good game.
  13. 8-bit Sonic 2 is frankly irrelevant. I don't think that one single bad ending in a game very few people played set the tone for the rest of the series. You could probably cherry-pick "dark" and "serious" moments out of just about any piece of children's media. It doesn't really say a whole lot. It's funny that this argument about whether or not the series should take itself seriously still happens. Outside of us crazy fans who still actively follow Sonic, nobody actually seems to worry about the series being too "kiddy" or not having serious plots. It's usually the opposite. Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 06 were mocked for more than just their shitty gameplay. They felt "un-Sonicy" to people and were criticized for having overly-dramatic and complicated stories.

  15. I'm going to try and throw my two cents in without making even more walls of text that nobody asked for. @Shadowlax: You're entitled to your opinion. I didn't mean to give the impression that you're not allowed to think 06 is the better game, or the game that held your interest more, or whatever. When I said that Sonic 06 can't be compared to Lost World favorably, I was speaking in reference to Kintor's claim that Lost World was "an appalling stain on the franchise." Whichever game you prefer, I think 06 was a lot more harmful overall just because of the state it was released in, and the legacy it's created. Also I feel like the notion that Lost World "didn't try" is, frankly, kind of ridiculous.
  16. I can't agree with this at all. For all its shortcomings (of which there are many), Lost World actually sought to answer a lot of the complaints people had and still have with modern Sonic games. It was less automated, had more platforming with a fair amount of variety, and there was an actual attempt at making Sonic control more accurately by giving him tiered movement (i.e a run button). I can sympathize with people who like the boost games and don't think SEGA needs to completely reinvent the wheel, but I think they also saw that building off of that style was difficult, and that making something new was more interesting and gave them the opportunity to address criticism. It's been over 10 years and people still make jokes about Sonic 06. It's still the quintessential bad game. There is no way you could compare it to Lost World favorably.
  17. Modern Sonic games have such a bad reputation that I don't even know how you'd go about marketing a collection of just the newer ones.
  18. Since when did Mega Man become Cap'n Crunch?
  19. Does anyone else think that the shrine puzzles in this game would make a great model for the next multiplayer Zelda to follow? They're clever, can be completed in a reasonable amount of time, they're self-contained, and they're designed around all of the neat things you can do with the game's basic mechanics rather than constantly introducing new gimmicks. I was actually getting Portal 2 vibes from some of them, and that's a great co-op game. well congrats on having more of a life than me, at least
  20. Sonic Unleashed was already too busy ripping off God of War to rip off Twilight Princess. ...But I think it's clear that many of us have Zelda on the mind right now. It's everywhere. :V
  21. Sorry if I'm late here, but do we know what the game's running on in the footage? I'm inclined to say PC because that's how these things usually go, plus we haven't had a boost game running higher than 30fps on any console yet, have we? (Not that I want to feed into the technical discussion too much) I agree that the animations definitely need work. Sonic's looking a little rigid, especially when running.

Fair enough. The question I really meant to pose was "why do certain immigrant groups (like many Cubans) develop anti-immigration attitudes like this?" I know it's not uncommon, at all, it's just that I'd normally expect someone in that situation to be more open-minded, and they often aren't. That does sound like the mindset a lot of people have. I've heard different variations of this but it's usually regarding illegal aliens, which is a different can of worms.
