And I thought £4.29 for the Ninjago mag was pricey.

@Your Vest Friend This is actually the most expensive one I've seen.

Typically they cap out at £10-£12, normally those are the ones which come with large hardback graphic novels.

The only thing I can think is that they don't plan to sustain the line in the long term, so they're hedging bets on charging more for these early ones since the product can (theoretically) justify it.

So one of my followers apparently collects this companies Doctor Who line... apparently the magazine is actually pretty good and well researched.

Knuckles' base is clearly Hidden Palace Zone.

@Blue Blood Wait are you... Kidding or for reals...

Just I'm legitimately struggling to figure out what else it could be!

Well it's not Flying Battery at least. That floor is just grey-purple with orange. Dunno where they got that from.

The Doctor Who magazine is very good and the figures are nice and weighty. The paint job can be a wee bit iffy but given that the Sonic characters are made of big block colours and shapes I think it'll work out far better than the tiny details on the Doctor Who humans and monsters.

£16 is absolutely a steep price per issue compared to other ranges of this type. Especially if this doesn't extend into the modern brand we have a very limited pool of characters to pick from. If the magazines are as high quality as the Doctor Who ones there might just barely be enough in here to justify the price. I worry that a lot of consumers would be more likely to pick up a Totaku figure or something though.

Yeah, it's usually the case that merchandise doesn't typically cover both modern and classic (with very sparse exceptions). On a tangent to this, this is why I'm sceptical of that LEGO Ideas Sonic Mania set, but still.

@Blue Blood Oh man you're right it is!

Better comparison shot is the section where Knuckles gets zapped! It matches the base exactly!

The Sonic Movie has a major problem... but we as fans have the chance to fix it.

  11. If you think that video is interesting. I went one step further. I'm amazed I'm saying this. But I think Movie Sonic is a far stronger and clearer brand than Modern Sonic is. Even if you put aside the gameplay and level design problem. Modern Sonic is in an absolute mess. It's overly converluted and contraditory... often within it's own individual game. Yet the Movie is just clearer and as a world is stronger than what the game counterpart has on offer right now.
  12. (Vid) This probably would be worth it's own discussion but...

I think you could probably give a very strong argument that Movie Sonic could and should replace Modern Sonic.

No...just no. And I already don't like "moder" Sonic's design that much either.

The video has nothing to do with Sonics design.

It's purely about all other aspects which make for a stronger brand.

And... Movie Sonic appears the stronger.

At the risk of me just not fully understanding your opinion here, it sounds like you’re taking a lot of your main points from more of the recent movie marketing than anything. The thing about that is it’s really simple to edit a trailer in order to make it look good. To highlight  only the good things, rather than making the entire product out to be that positive. We’ve seen this done with the modern sonic games from the past decade as well. Promotional material can mean next to nothing when it comes to overall results from a story and world building perspective.

So tbh, I wouldn’t even begin to consider the movie canon taking over the current game canon (even with how shit it is) until the actual movie comes out and either does or doesn’t expand on the details you listed in this video. I won’t deny that a lot of what has been laid out is interesting but if the movie falls flat on its face with it then yeah... probably not the best thing to move forward with.

With the whole redesign, I think people are forgetting just how terrible that initial trailer was from every standpoint. Model withstanding, those scenes are still in the movie so, personally, I still can’t say I have too much stock in it turning out to be good.

As for the movie bringing in the movie going audience for the game, I don’t think it’s the best idea to start changing the entire franchise to meet that group. If people can’t make the distinction between a game franchise that has been around for decades now to a single movie then excuse me if I don’t think that they should be the target audience here. They’re likely to completely drop the series without a second thought. Not to mention the notion that, if you just make the game good, you’ll probably end up catching the same crowd anyway.

Again again, I’ll wait for the actual movie to say anything else. With how many twist and turns this franchise has seen, it might very well end up being better that the last decade of games. Hell, lord knows I don’t think very highly of those plots to begin with so it shouldn’t even be that hard. Though, I know first hand how easy it is for trailers and marketing to sale something only for the base product to be completely different so I’m not about to stick my claim in the ground this early on.

modern sonic's a mess at this point but the movie sonic universe just seems dull as shit. throw both out and do better.
