  4. If you think that video is interesting. I went one step further. I'm amazed I'm saying this. But I think Movie Sonic is a far stronger and clearer brand than Modern Sonic is. Even if you put aside the gameplay and level design problem. Modern Sonic is in an absolute mess. It's overly converluted and contraditory... often within it's own individual game. Yet the Movie is just clearer and as a world is stronger than what the game counterpart has on offer right now.
  5. (Vid) This probably would be worth it's own discussion but...

I think you could probably give a very strong argument that Movie Sonic could and should replace Modern Sonic.

No...just no. And I already don't like "moder" Sonic's design that much either.

The video has nothing to do with Sonics design.

It's purely about all other aspects which make for a stronger brand.

And... Movie Sonic appears the stronger.

At the risk of me just not fully understanding your opinion here, it sounds like you’re taking a lot of your main points from more of the recent movie marketing than anything. The thing about that is it’s really simple to edit a trailer in order to make it look good. To highlight  only the good things, rather than making the entire product out to be that positive. We’ve seen this done with the modern sonic games from the past decade as well. Promotional material can mean next to nothing when it comes to overall results from a story and world building perspective.

So tbh, I wouldn’t even begin to consider the movie canon taking over the current game canon (even with how shit it is) until the actual movie comes out and either does or doesn’t expand on the details you listed in this video. I won’t deny that a lot of what has been laid out is interesting but if the movie falls flat on its face with it then yeah... probably not the best thing to move forward with.

With the whole redesign, I think people are forgetting just how terrible that initial trailer was from every standpoint. Model withstanding, those scenes are still in the movie so, personally, I still can’t say I have too much stock in it turning out to be good.

As for the movie bringing in the movie going audience for the game, I don’t think it’s the best idea to start changing the entire franchise to meet that group. If people can’t make the distinction between a game franchise that has been around for decades now to a single movie then excuse me if I don’t think that they should be the target audience here. They’re likely to completely drop the series without a second thought. Not to mention the notion that, if you just make the game good, you’ll probably end up catching the same crowd anyway.

Again again, I’ll wait for the actual movie to say anything else. With how many twist and turns this franchise has seen, it might very well end up being better that the last decade of games. Hell, lord knows I don’t think very highly of those plots to begin with so it shouldn’t even be that hard. Though, I know first hand how easy it is for trailers and marketing to sale something only for the base product to be completely different so I’m not about to stick my claim in the ground this early on.

modern sonic's a mess at this point but the movie sonic universe just seems dull as shit. throw both out and do better.

  6. Yeah I covered this a few months ago. It's being used without permission. No doubt there. Obvious sign is that the Sonic logo is in fact modified from the old Sega World London logo. The company has had this design for over a decade as far as I can see. A long time ago their trucks were even painted blue.
  7. My contribution to the Sega clues right now.

  8. I think I know what the OP is talking about because I had a similar problem. By any chance. Are you playing Sonic Mania Plus and you're on Angel Island where you get Ray and Mighty? If so... this is what you do. If you have Ray (The Yellow looking dude) jump into the air and press left then right repeatedly. Ray will start to do his flight move. It takes a few moments to get the rhythm right but he should be able to clear the wall. For Mighty (The red guy who looks like Sonic), I don't remember this too well. But I think if you jump in the air then press the jump button again mighty crashes down to the ground? There's a part near the wall which I think he can break through which allows you to clear it(?).
  9. Everybody be gushing over Baby Sonic.

I however am asking the important Sonic Movie questions!

  10. So... the Team Sonic Racing charity event made over £4000!

  11. Just bumping this to say that our event is well underway and we now have prizes for people who donate during the stream. Games and art prints!
  12. For the past month, I've been organising a bit of a bit online event for the community to participate in two nights of Team Sonic Racing fun and games. The idea initially was to simply pick a date and time to give a boost to the online community so we could try and have some online antics with lots of new people instead of the usual loyal following. Well... It's since grown into something more. I was able to recruit a number of well known Sonic Streamers and personalities in the community who have agreed to take a time slot to Stream TSR and try to raise money for the Charity Special Effect. Date & Time We're streaming tomorrow (Monday 16th December) at 4PM (GMT)/11AM (EST) for a few hours, then picking up the next day (Tuesday 17th December) at 5PM (GMT)/12PM (EST) for another few hours. Full Schedule The full schedule, who is streaming and on which version is as follows (Subject to any unforeseen changes). How can I help? Obviously, if you fancy watching either of the streamers and joining in with the chat, that's always a huge moral booster, but we're also taking donations for Special Effect during the event. Any donation is welcome and the money goes directly to Special Effect via Tiltify. But what we'd also love to see is people actually joining us online and joining our races so you get to race with us during our respective live-stream, or just come online and lets give the game some love and support with some fresh players. Who is Special Effect? Special Effect is a UK based charity that helps people with disabilities get into gaming, they happen to be supported by both Sega and Sumo digital and do some incredible work. More information on their website. How can I donate? Each streamer should have a very obvious icon or sign post to how you can donate... Alternatively, feel free to use this link. Further Information We don't have a site or a twitter account for this event, the next best thing would be to either follow myself or Sam since we'll be tweeting the various times/moments when someone is online and if there are any changes, as will any of the other streamers during the event. Any questions, fire away and I'll try to answer asap!
  13. The studio that did the visual effects for the Sonic movie has closed down.

People claiming to be employees are reporting they had to work 17 hour shifts on 2 'infamous' projects.

So company goes under because they wasted themselves fixing a big mistake the higher ups shouldn't have made in the first place. Way to go, hedgehog.

Well, at least we're one step closer to be rid of Disney remakes.

This is disgusting for so many reasons. No matter what you think about the movies they were involved with, the fact is that these are people who just lost their jobs after doing nothing wrong. If anything, the things people take issue with (Sonic's initial design, the lions being too realistic) were all decisions made near the top of the production staff, not these guys.

The idea that there are people out there who might've been forced to work on some idiot's "vision" of this franchise, followed by having to spend long hours redoing that work because everyone and their mother finally told him that shit wasn't going to cut it, and then get fired on top of it all (more than likely some executive can save a buck or two) is sickening. I really hope these guys land on their feet.

Cause real talk, there are some incredibly talented people there. People like to point and laugh things like the Sonic movie but that's far from their more notable outings. The article alone names things like GotG, Life of Pi, The Jungle Book, and gd Detective Pikachu.

      What a mess.
