  1. I mean, I just don't think that the way the Sonic Twitter acts in general is the best....what's the word for it? Image for the franchise. True, it feels personable and not sterile and formal like a lot of companies who use social media outlets and it's cool that it reaches out to fans and people. It's just the way it does so that isn't all that agreeable to me.

i don't like the way it bashes adventure fans :(

I just find it uncomfortable because the twitter is so self-aware and the games aren't

I think a happy medium would be separate that twitter from a more....formal one if that makes sense? Like one official Sonic twitter for a more intelligent way of promoting the series like citing memorable game moments and showcasing stuff like characters and this one being distinct so we have the best of both worlds.

Well considering that the fact the people are even talking about the Sonic social media this much in the first place is because of those off-the-wall moments is pretty much the main appeal now. And to be fair, do people honestly think highly of Sonic nowadays, I mean he's pretty much everyone's punching bag so I don't see where this "IMAGE" is coming from?

also the true sonic spirit talks about this as well.

I suppose I'm indifferent to the Sonic Twitter by default seeing how I don't actually pay much attention to it one way or the other, so I can get why some would get bored of it fast.

What I don't get are the folk who act as though this is seriously ruining Sonic's image in the eyes of non-Sonic fans. Like they weren't already heavily trashing the series with no regret beforehand. This form of reasoning honestly just sounds like a weak excuse to be a deliberate killjoy, as opposed to those who aren't keen on it for more understandable reasons.

I've felt this way about it for a while. As I mentioned in a post a while back, it sets this overall tone for the brand and character that's become increasingly dissonant with what the actual games have established. It's not really celebrating or promoting many actual aspects of the games making up Sonic's 25-year history, which is a shame because I know there's a wealth of cool stuff to celebrate even if there's nothing new happening yet.

That said, I know Aaron still always has the best intentions in mind and I feel things shouldn't have gotten out of hand today in the way they did.

I think everyone has hit the nail on the head better than I could. The meme's got old fast, he bashes thing's a little bit much and the number teasing has gotten a bit obsessive. What with the current mess maybe they should take a break until an actual announcement can be made.

So, the way to bring those people with negative images of Sonic into the series is to sit there and reinforce them?

    9. Dejimon11

I appreciate that they are having fun with all this and it's nice for a laugh but man I am just getting sick of memes as a whole.

Can someone give me an example on how Aaron "bashes"?

what @shdowhunt60 said. like i said in my status, it feels like they are reinforcing to people like me that Sonic really does suck balls and they are poking at the ones who care about the series. that is what i don't like.

He doesn't bash much, but it can be there. For National Stress Day there was a pic of Sonic 06 posted. The posting of Game Grumps stuff when they are famous for really disliking Sonic, "We all make mistakes - We kissed a Princess once." Now these are light jabs but it just gets tiring after a while.

    13. FriendBot

Well everyone takes the piss on 06 cause you know, it's shit. Well only Arin does't really like Sonic, Ross has grown with the Archie Comics and Danny has grown to like the games they've been playing even though he hasn't actually played them.

I get that it can be tiresome but what do you expect? It doesn't look SEGA is ready to throw in big guns anytime soon for the 25th Anniversary, so what should Aaron do then besides doing only the dankest of memes.

    14. shdowhunt60

I think what everyone is trying to say is all the focus on self-deprecating humor. A lot of the humor OF the Sonic social media accounts is focused on using internet memes, and chiefly internet memes used to point out how Sonic sucks.

Sanic? Big's Fishing Adventure 3? Ow the Edge? Snipes at the Adventure 3 Facebook Page? The humor behind a lot of these memes is there to point out how Sonic sucks. Why would you want that representing the series?

It doesn't help that in addition to that, Arron's dropped things like Fan Fridays and the Sonic Character tournament without so much as a word. You know, stuff that's meant to engage with the fans? The people that actually LIKE Sonic?

Arron's strategy seems to be appealing to the people that actively hate Sonic, by reinforcing their opinions as to why the series sucks, all the while completely throwing fans on the wayside. So with all things considered, why would you even THINK that some fans might actually feel alienated from Arron's approach?

    15. FriendBot

And how many times did Aaron poke fun at the SA3 people? Once and it wasn't on Twitter, it was during Melpontro's livestream.

I don't interpret that as "lol Sonic sux" but rather "lol yeah Sonic did some weird shit back at the day". And as for those Fan Friday/Character Tournament, did anyone really cared about it?

Aaron's strategy isn't to get Sonic haters but to show that, it's not bad to poke fun at your stranger moments. And when the good times come, it's time to move forward.

But hey, that's just my optimistic viewpoint. I'm not the super cynical and insecure Sonic fan.

    16. shdowhunt60

I cared about both. It was exciting to actually see SEGA interact with the fans. I loved seeing cool fanart actually get attention. I was desperate to see who out of all my favorite characters would win the tournament.

SEGA's been routinely criticized for not properly communicating with the fans, and I thought when Arron first came onto the scene that had finally changed. I was with everyone else when at first Arron was sticking it to Gametrailers for calling Sonic fans delusional, and doing the other stuff I mentioned. That felt glorious.

But now that the dust has settled, what the hell has Arron been doing lately? Nothing but same damned jokes over and over ad naseum, and interacting more closely with the kind of people who sat there and made fun of Sonic fans in the first place. Like I said, that interview where Arron posed at Sonic the Hedgehog frankly pissed me off.

Maybe at the end of the day though, it really just boils down to that I'm not going to sit there and take whatever shit SEGA throws at me. If that's what they really think of Sonic, and if they really care more about people that hate the series than they do fans, then by all means.

      The Tenth Doctor

Aaron's strategy of poking fun at the stranger moments kind of goes against what I felt was progress. Look at Generations. It said "Yeah, 06 happened. It's part of our history and we're over it." They had left the past behind them and moving on from their mistakes.
