  1. LGBT Community: let’s discuss our oppression! Start a dialogue!

me: okay, can we talk about the institutionalized deep rooted and casual and blatant racist biases/mentalities and fetishizment of lgbt PoC within the community?

    LGBT Community: oooohh...uh, not that.

Could you give me some insight as to what that’s all about, or at least link me to an article or something that explains it?

It’s just the general attitude the community has about ignoring the oppression within its own walls, especially regarding racism. It’s often downplayed or scoffed at when PoC try to raise awareness of it and discuss it. I can’t count how many white gays have actually criticized me for daring say that there’s racism within the lgbt world, telling me what is and isn’t racist using their lens of approval, telling me it’s a myth and that it doesn’t exist, pulling the reverse racism card, and justifying what PoC would perceive to be racist attitudes and behaviors.

      Gay people can be racist.

      thats a fact.

I haven’t seen any examples firsthand, that’s all I’m saying. But if you say there’s a problem, I believe you. I just wouldn’t know how to discuss it because I don’t know any of the ins and outs.

Which is why I could do with a detailed analysis on the matter to understand better.

EDIT: actually I do recall you once talking about a particularly nasty experience you had on a dating app (something about a guy messaging you and using racist language as “sexy talk” or some shit)

    5. KHCast

      KHCast

It’s certainly a real thing. Especially the whole fetishizing thing. Having talked with other PoC it’s startling how often we’re perceived constantly only in the sexual light regarding the desire for us. More often than not I read or hear about how difficult online dating for example is for black people in general because often people just expect sex from us and never see us in that romantic sense. They want that “black experience”. There’s also the issue of stereotyping, as people expect you to be a certain way. I’ve had that told to me many times, that they were expecting a more aggressive and “thuggish” like black guy. It’s also just very easy I’ve learned to get someone to lose interest in you and move on. Like PoC have to watch what they say more than others I feel regarding certain issues or topics. This isn’t even getting into blatant racism where I’ve been called a monkey for not wanting to fuck someone. And again, these are very much shared experiences we talk about.

The Persecution Olympics are absolutely a thing within the LBGT community. It's why it always seemed odd to me that the "T" part of LBGT hooked up with the other three in the first place, since their interests didn't necessarily correspond.

“Persecution Olympics” sounds like pretty sarcastic “it’s not actually a problem” way to refer to tangible harmful mentalities within the community

If that's how you want to take the comment, that's on you. I'm remembering why I stopped commenting on your status updates.

Your need to insert snarky sarcastic phrases to refer to ongoing problems is unneeded, plain and simple. And given your track record regarding your input on subjects like this when responding to me, I really didn’t expect it to go any other way.

Let's get one thing straight here, dickhead: You are the one who spams political status update on the front page of a Sonic forum trying to get, I don't know, some sort of consensus for whatever political thing you want to whine about at any given point from people who generally too busy bitching about how much Iizuka sucks. You are the one who throws a fit every time someone responds to it in a way not to your liking.

Look up "oppression olympics," which is the more common name for what I said:

      Quote

Oppression Olympics is a characterization of marginalization as a competition to determine the relative weight of the overall oppression of individuals or groups, often by comparing race, gender, socioeconomic status or disabilities, in order to determine who is the worst off, and the most oppressed.

Doesn't that sound an awful fucking lot like being related to the thing you were talking about with whatever the hell this status update was supposed to be about?

Again, it's your problem if you want to assume that when I make a comment about how the interests of all the people within the LBGT community don't always intersect despite being seemingly under the same umbrella, that I'm actually saying "fuck all of them their problems don't matter." I was just assuming that I was commenting on the topic in a way that you wanted, but fuck me all to hell I guess.

      >spams political statuses

mmmm can’t exactly remember the last time I actually did that, and since when was sexuality, race and the basic treatment of humans “political”. I post them because the topics are relevant to me and also I just generally find it nice to vent out frustrations every now and then. You know, the point of status updates. I wasn’t aware it was expected I’d just discuss a fucking blue hedgehog in them. Maybe make that a rule if you don’t approve of my use of the statuses to occasionally bring up more personal “political” as you put it, issues

“Doesn’t that sound a lot like what you were saying”

Also no, that’s still not anything like my status. Since I never once actually made it a fucking competition. I shared experiences based on racism and saying how racism exists. But okay, guess that also means I’m competing to be winner of most discriminated.

Lastly, the fact you’re going “whatever the hell this status was about” shows me you didn’t seem to care enough to actually consider what it was discussing so there’s that

His first response was him essentially agreeing with you, in case that didn't get through the first three fucking times. You really do act like an insufferable prick no matter what the other person is saying just because they sneezed in the wrong pitch around you, you know that?

Maybe he shouldn’t use incorrect terminology then to refer to a issue when what he’s defining is really not at all the point of the status. It’s not a competition, the initial point of the status was not to plead my case for being the most oppressed to garner sympathy, and I don’t spam political topics in the statuses.

Actually I just went through my statuses, and most of the discussions in the last few pages were about smash bros and crash.

Like seriously, the status was about PoC calling out the existence of racism in a community that tries to paint itself above that via its minority status, using examples and personal experiences, and somehow that’s equivalent of saying it’s a oppression contest.

I guess I'm just not woke enough to see how people fighting over whose oppression is more important rather than working together to try and better everyone in a group with similar problems in their lives (that'd be the Persecution Olympics) is completely different, to the extent of being irrelevant, from people in a group ignoring the plights of more disenfranchised members in a group because the rest of them already got what they wanted or simply just don't care.

Maybe if you weren't quite so far up your own ass, you'd be able to comprehend a context where me making a direct comparison to another problem with the LBGT community (that'd be the wave of LBG people who stopped giving any shit about the T as soon as they started getting their voices heard in government,, which is something I'm pretty sure I've even talked about before) was to show a level of understanding of the issue instead of just immediately assuming I'm telling you to go fuck yourself for talking about your personal identity politics.

Alas, we all know that won't happen.

I seriously don't get how you can not see these two things as correlating with each other whatsoever. You're so close to getting it, but the part of your brain that reacts with hostile negativity at anything that doesn't completely match up with your line of thinking sure as hell puts a stop to that almost every fucking time this shit happens in the statuses. This is why people don't get along with you.

Calling out that institutionalized racism and racial biases exists providing examples and wanting the community to take it as seriously as the other issues is not the same as

      Quote

people fighting over whose oppression is more important

No ones stating racism against blacks is more important than, biphobia, transphobia, discrimination against Asians, body shaming. PoC are saying it’s a issue valid and real worth working to fix. A argument that’s usually met with hostility and denial by a good majority of the community. Or, as some simple folks may put it, is blacks just trying to paint themselves as the most discriminated and woeful tragic group.

funny how you ignored specifically when I said I even looked at my past statuses to call your fucking bluff.  Like if you gotta dig up statuses from, what, 4-5 months ago to make your argument, that I constantly post this shit, in a spamming matter as you describe, that’s what I would be personally laughing at. But when you don’t like someone and resort to the “just laugh at their comment” tactic, I can see who’s being the mature one. You’re the same guy who took me saying you’re joke wasn’t funny, and went “well fuck me I should kill myself then”. Don’t try and pretend you don’t get overly heated and take shit to the extreme

Almost like my issue didn’t come from you bringing up a trans comparison hence why I ignored that part of your comment
