3 arguably prob doesn’t need it to be fair, but 1 and 2 are dated as hell mechanically and level design wise, and could use the tune ups. 2 especially could use it so it doesn’t feel like a game that can’t seem to understand the concept of ham and charm. Even DmC understands that better. It tries so hard to be like the early 2000’s action films and makes Dante into some unlikable dry as hell prick that must’ve pulled out his funny bone before the game started.

If you want newer mechanics play the newer games.

Remakes exist because people have soft spots for classics and want to see them reimagined. I updated my reply, but just in case, DMC2 (and to an extent 1) is visually fairly bland aesthetically, and plot threads feel very thinly laid out. I’d love to see some expanded character development on characters like Trish in 1, and Vergil, and 2 as I said, just needs a overhaul regarding Dante’s personality, and the story in general. It’s so forgettable and bland, and painful to replay. I’d love to see more plot threads that tie into future titles more clearly as well.

Honestly, as far as the overall lore goes, the plot honestly doesn’t really become the hammy stupid lovable shit we know it as until 3 came along.  And I feel 1 and 2 should have had similar tones.

1 and 2 being distinct experiences is fine. They don't need to be a matching set.

So what makes remaking RE2 and 3 okay then vs remaking in a similar fashion DMC 1 and 2? People liked the classic fairly enough, and if people wanted updated mechanics, they could just play future games like 4 or 7.

Also DMC2’s changes (in nearly every department) hurt the game, hence its overwhelming negative reception. I think it’s fair to say that deserves a upgrade.

They shouldn't have remade Resident Evil 2 and 3 either. As good as those games were they could have been completely new survival horror experiences.

I guess we’re gonna have to agree to disagree on this since our fundamental ideals on the concept of remakes seem to clash down to the core.

Devil May Cry especially feels like a bad choice because the series is in a much better place now than ever with the best entry in the series by far coming out in the current gen. It's not like a FF7 or RE2 situation where the series arguably needed to rediscover it's roots. For me there's nothing to look back to.

I thought RE already rediscovered its roots with 7. That seemed to be a pretty high point for that series

2 was in development long before they released 7. You could also argue 7 was still more experimental while 2 was a true classic RE
