They have been paid to say good things about the movie, but what if fans have been paid to say bad things? Same logic, and actually would explain the conspiracy theories. JK though, as I said you don't want to end up disappointed so you are prepared for a bad movie, but don't mock people who are hopeful.

I'm genuinely astonished that there actually are people who take generic corporate PR at face value.

I doubt Disney spent 50 billion dollars just so they can stripmine profitable parts of the company that at one point had wronged them in the past.

So I heard someone was convinced that the game was bad because it had a low price.

All recent main Sonic games (aside from maybe Unleashed simply cuz of how much content there was) should have been less than $60 anyway. And I say that as someone who loves those games and doesn't mind that they're shorter.
So yeah, the way I see it, if that is indeed the game's price...this is actually a decent move on SEGA's part even if it's kinda late.

You act as if everything we saw in the game means that the time was spent making the game better. If anything, the reason why it's not being "bloated" with content is because there's so much emphasis on spectacle instead of providing actual content.
After four years of development time, I would hope that the game didn't have barren gameplay and lack of content with the only thing that ties things together are its visuals, but here we are.

    We're not a hivemind.
Generations (assuming that's the game you're referring to) only had 18 levels --roughly split between Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic-- and a handful of boss fights; and outside the main campaign you were only left with a collection of small missions based within those existing levels. Even at the time of release, the game was considered well on the short side in content; and not because the game didn't have over 100 levels at your disposal.
Moreover, that was a game released at a time when Sonic Team were still split into groups churning out a Sonic game every year--the game was released back-to-back following 2010's Colors, 2009's Black Knight, and 2008's Unleashed. Whereas Forces will be the first major game from Sonic Team since Lost World almost four years ago.

If the game is as short as the last few sonic games you should take it as a good sign that Sega is trying to price their games appropriately.

That being said, Sonic Team's 4 years in the making mainline Sonic game being as short as the other ones would be pretty embarrassing.

I would point out that 2006 and Rise of Lyric to a lesser extent launched at full price (granted, both were exclusive to one console upon immediate release). If this has to be an indicator of something I'd say it's gonna be to do with the game's quantity rather than it's quality. Although I'm sure that even Generations with its short length was around £40 at launch and really, Generations isn't even the bar we should be aiming for when it comes to game length.
If we want to take a more optimistic theory, this could be an attempt to stick their neck out a little considering the competition the game's gonna go up against. Especially when the likes of Odyssey is gonna be £50 at launch, having Forces sitting on the shelf at a much lower price is gonna be a good incentive to sway a few extra people to Sonic.
Also consider something like the recent Ratchet & Clank. That game wasn't exactly starved of content and yet it got a budget price release and today you'll mostly find it between £10 and £20.

    Hey.
    Hey guys.
    Don't say stuff like this.
It literally doesn't matter how bad any given game is in part or in whole.
This kind of juvenile language mucks up the discourse of a thread and causes second-hand embarrassment to all who read it.
It's just a fucking Sonic game.
    So don't act like this.
    Or strikes will be had.

It's alright, but I think it was a mistake to let us hear it without vocals first, there's no way whatever they did in the end wouldn't sound "tacked on".
The only thing I really hate is the title, somehow it's cornier than the likes of "Sonic Heroes" and "All Hail Shadow", but more than that the phrase "Fist Bump" just doesn't really flow or suit the "serious" vibe this song gave before we had the vocals for it.  Like that sombre piano ending... that's not the ending of a song called "Fist Bump".

Something that gives me hope of Forces story being better than past games is that there is dialogue and character interaction in the stages (Like Star Fox) and instead of Sonic just going through levels without too much story besides plot mcguffins (Animals, Wisps and Emeralds) we already know that Sonic is trying to find Shadow in the first level, Tails is with Classic Sonic for some reason and not with the resistance so far, and the Avatar is protecting the Chemical Plant from that giant crab bot, and saving some civilians that couldn't get out from Park Avenue.
Also, every character already has more lines than Generations. They feel like they are in the stage with Sonic and the Avatar. They are not playable, but they feel important and present. And I'm glad about that.
See? We already know a lot of stuff, but still I feel we know so little.

They're alluring to a main series game, that was the whole point of the announcement.
If they where teasing anything other than that they wouldn't blatantly drop the word core, because games that haven't got a sequel in 12 years sure as hell aren't what I'd call core.
If Nintendo never went through with the concept, GameFreak wouldn't have ever touched a home console with a core series game and if Nintendo moves on to separate home and handheld devices after the Switch, they'll absolutely go back to only releasing them on the handhelds again.

Either way, I'm sure the masses won't be happy with the game. Most are expecting something like a MMO or something on the levels of Final Fantasy XV's graphics and open world gameplay while GameFreak is really reluctant to move away from their 20 years old formula.

    Core means main games.
Colosseum and Gale of Darkness where spin-offs.

I'm not all that enamored with Forces myself.
I'm saying that Mania isn't all that directly comparable with Forces, and thus making it a contest is dumb.

As much potential as Utopia has it doesn't seem to have an overwhelming positive consensus either, probably because it's really open and fans are unsure about whether or not Sonic should even be in an open world at all.
Regardless, we've outlined tons of problems over the years in really exacting detail, but the fandom has yet to implement a solution that's as clear and concise as Mania being a response to Sonic 4 is. Because it's harder, and we all know it's harder even underneath the hype that is the fact that a fan project essentially has Sega's blessing. This should probably provide an infinitesimal amount of empathy to anyone brave enough to work at Sonic Team proper, but whatever. Gotta stick it to our stuffy Japanese overlords and show just how much smarter we are, I guess.
Ultimately, Mania is undoubtedly going to have a better reception than Forces. But then again Secret Rings had a better reception Sonic 06. Comparing the reception of disparate products with different intents and different developmental environments and needs just because they're under the same franchise banner isn't a constructive way to look at things.

They're not getting help from the fans.
The fans are making a 2D Sonic game that's almost exactly like the classics that long-departed figures of the entity that is "Sonic Team" made 25 years ago. This helps in that it gets people genuinely excited for a product with Sonic's name on it in a time where Sonic is still quite the laughing stock (although even I'm not going to act like people weren't genuinely excited for and still hold Generations dear).
But it has absolutely nothing to do with the issue of what to do about the franchise's place in a 3D environment which- again- just about no one in the fandom has been able to pull off to a widely convincing degree. Either projects go unfinished or the fandom balks at the ones that get a demo out.
Mania is going to come and go, and we're probably still going to be stuck with the issue of how to get Sonic impressively working in 3D, and as far as we know no one in the fandom is helping out with that either because they're not interested or because- surprise surprise- it's much harder to do than aping a perfected 2D formula.

You're comparing two different games with two completely different scopes of development.
There's probably a few reasons that PagodaWest and the fan sector in general have concerned themselves with making a classic retread instead of a 3D game that's competitive with even the worst Sonic Team has to offer outside of "we really like the classic games."

My brother pointed me out something which could be an amazing plot twist, so it probably won't happen.
Shadow, Metal, Chaos and Zavok. What those 4 have in common? That they all popular Sonic some-what bad guys that in the past turned against Eggman.
Would that be a great twist and resonable explanation for this weird team-up? If they weren't here to battle Sonic, but world conquering Eggman? Of course then we would need a contrive reason for them to fight Sonic anyway, this is a video game, but it still would be pretty cool.
