  1. Jury's out on his role in the movie, but Freeza still has the biggest checklist towards being a God of Destruction. Morally detached, no hesitation toward destruction, and surprisingly true to his word when the chips are down. That translates well towards being a deity tasked with destroying things in a way that earns him a feared yet respected reputation. That could be the angle they're going for with him, where it's his literal god-given mandate to destroy, yet will always be at the mercy of his Angel if he gets out of hand.

  2. Goku fading in and out of Super Saiyan at the final moments genuinely shook me. It feels magnificently and perfectly appropriate that the universe's survival was won, not by Ultra Instinct, not by Goku's and Freeza's best forms acquired in Super, but by their most iconic forms in Dragonball, and the forms that led to Beerus coming into contact with Goku in the first place and effectively starting the Super series.

  3. Dr. Gero's modifications to Android 17 were so proficient that it spurred Bulma to break the fabric of time with the creation of the time machine, just so the world can have a future without the Android threat. Said time travel is Zamasu's excuse for why he hounds Future Trunks, deigning it as mortals acting as mortals would and committing selfish acts that defy the rules of the gods.

Present 17 wins this tournament, and gets the one means to obtain any selfish thing he wanted with no strings attached, but defies the chance for any of that, including his cruise ship, and selflessly brings back the destroyed universes, which effectively beats Zamasu's philosophy about selfish mortals to death.

    That is some fantastic irony.

  4. Spoiler

Apparently the Omni-Kings fully expected the winner of the tournament to revive the fallen universes. Had someone made a selfish wish instead, they would have erased absolutely everything on the spot.

So the tournament was essentially a gambit to get the other universes to fight at their best, and understand the personalities and plights of the other universes.

That would mean Freeza would have doomed everyone had he won. Oi.

But, Freeza being revived after all sets up for movies and a new series with him in an anti-villain role. You can't ever do away with Lord Freeza.

  5. Just as well, everyone expected Freeza to save Goku's ass when or if UI ran out. The writers were on the same wavelength, evidently, and threw in that curveball.

A Goku/Vegeta tag team conclusion might have been the "right" way to end this, but I'll take this unpredictable team. Because now, it's the Saiyan race, the Emperor, and Earth altogether for the final moments. They are U7's signature races, so they all get to see this to the end.

  6. I can't wait to see chibi Mighty and chibi Ray in Metallic Madness.

As for Encore Mode, the first thing that came to mind was Hard Mode missions in Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, and Shadow the Hedgehog. The general layouts of the stages are the same, but new obstacles (and the absence of some stage assets) are now implemented that you have to take time for negotiating around them.

Think how City Escape Hard Mode introduced rapid-fire shielded GUN sentry robots immediately, barricades, and removed some of the hovering platforms. And if you want a non-Hard Mode-esque application to this, City Escape Hard Mode placed in more, smaller ramps in the boarding section and midway that don't really impede your progress, but could mess up your flow if you weren't ready for them. Apply that to 2D environments, and there you go.

  7. Guess Ultra Instinct was just about to burn out, but just before it did and Goku fell, he subconsciously picked up Freeza's energy and did Instant Transmission to get to his side.

From there the two of them will just stall out the last 10 or so seconds and win with numbers.

Keep them in their Freelancer class, pull moves from the other classes like the Valkyrie's Jump and the Salve-Maker's Feel No Pain to form parts of their kit, have them all be alts to on another.

Make their neutral B the Brave/Default mechanic itself, where they can store Brave Counters with a special Default parry, then unleash them all in the Brave state where their next few attacks either have enormous FAF buffs or their endlag cut in half or more.

You know you want this. C'mon Square, you know Disney won't fork over Sora.

  9. Punch was satisfying, but the climactic gut punch Goku gave to Freeza on Namek will always hold a special place in my heart.

Speaking of Goku and Freeza and special moments.

Stumbled upon this yesterday and holy hell am I in love. Nothing like a glorious up in animation frames and satisfying camera angles to make a scene better.

  10. It makes sense in hindsight why exactly Jiren has just been taking his time with beating everyone.

Every scuffle he partook in this tournament, he basically turned it into a condensed version of what he perceives to have experienced in his life: a boost of morale or hope for his opponent, only to completely no sell the assault and leave them dismayed that nothing they have can overcome overwhelming power. Remember, Maji Kayo initiated the fight with Jiren in the hopes of finding a weakness for U3 to exploit, and Jiren actually stepped up to this fight. Ribrianne just booked it when she found herself in his space and Jiren didn't bother. He allowed the Spirit Bomb to be fully completed before he took it. He allowed the Final Flash to be fully charged before he took it, pretended to be harmed, and countered.

Nothing matters to Jiren aside from power. Not ideals, not heart, and especially not trust. If they want to keep getting back up and fight, so be it. Jiren’s just gonna bat them down again in order to make a point that no amount of motivation or drive is going to beat him. Goku and Vegeta are getting mad and vow to beat Jiren somehow? Fine with him, makes it all the more final when he takes it all with nary a wound on him.

"Pride" Trooper. Please. Obsession is a more apt term; obsession with power, and the rush he gets in flaunting it, and nothing more.

It's going to bite him in the ass in this coming fight now, but then he couldn't really see it coming; Goku had only tapped into UI and he believed himself to be capable of batting it away with just a slight aura boost. "So that is your limit." He couldn't have expected UI to actually have a second level of mastery that we see here. But oh well, that's what he gets for relying only on power and not any emotional support he could have asked for.

  11. So what if Vegeta lost more? Vegeta didn't give a damn that his race was gone, originally. He was more pissed off that the Saiyans were offed in a humiliating fashion.

For Vegeta, the case was  "Oh my people are gone? Welp, nothing to do now but become a Super Saiyan and prove that the Saiyans were meant to be the strongest warrior race."

Jiren's case is "I have a family? Power can take that away. I have a master and comrades? Be strong enough, and they can go away too. Power is the deciding factor in all life, isn't it?"

Vegeta gets stronger to prove himself and give his race justice. Jiren gets stronger as a coping mechanism, believing it to be justice itself. Vegeta uses the past to forge his future, while Jiren remains shackled to the past and wants to relive it, damn anything he met in the time inbetween.

  12. It had to be a vanilla self-destruct anyway. The bomb would be considered a weapon and be angel’d out of him if he tried it, leaving him no time to charge a second self-destruct.

Also if you thought 17 wouldn’t be in for the long haul and go out with a bang after everyone had been asking for years to see him in the anime then you didn’t actually want 17 at all, you just wanted another non-Goku guy.
