  1. Late game Ys VIII music spoiler. No details about the game enclosed.

Something about this song reminds me of Gamma's stages in Adventure, and Eggman's stages in Adventure 2. Possibly the dancy electronic stuff.

  2. Echo Fighters are characters that have identical speed, height, and weight to the characters they are based on. It's the reason Doctor Mario and Pichu are not Echo Fighters. If Shadow were to be an Echo Fighter, he would have identical mobility stats and size to Sonic.
  3. To those that haven't played Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana yet, go play it, dammit.

To those that have played Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana, dammit why didn't you tell me to play it sooner.

  4. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. Switch port. I'll be upfront, this is probably my favorite RPG I've ever played. Not necessarily the best RPG I've played, but certainly the one I got really attached to, and one I feel needs to be played by everyone. The combat is very kinetic with the speed of the characters and the utility of the special moves (though with some button niggles (that can be remapped in the options, fair enough)), and it's a blast to just run through enemies, or just run right past them. It's linear for the most part, but with just enough optional content to let you take without it feeling hammered in. But honestly, the characters and story really sell it. It's got wonderful pacing, with all sorts of intrigue, sadness, triumph, and just pure heart to it, and the characters are an absolute delight to know and help out. It's got that Majora's Mask feel to it where you could just complete the story missions and continue on, but you are going to want to help out the people because you want to see them progress, with the rewards just being a bonus. Very highly recommend, now I'm off to find the other 7 Ys games.

Who put Sonic Unleashed music in my JRPG

  6. If Goku had just kept it civil, I'm sure Freeza would have stopped and approached things amicably.

Is this a jab at our current political climate?

    2. Dejimon11

@SenEDDtor Missile Yup it's pretty much a meme at this point

  7. Oh jeez, Plus comes out in twenty days.

    1. Milo

and sega's hardly making any noise about it. sega west anyway, sega in jp showed a 4P multiplayer session for the sonic birthday stream.

apparently the toaster and the shoe was way more important than the actual game at sega's e3 2018 mania plus "gameplay battle" 😕

  8. People griping about Smash Ultimate somehow being a port because it reuses assets and thus automatically is a negative, are likely the same people praising how good Sonic Mania is, unaware of the irony smashing them in the face with a cattle prod.

    1. Wraith

every smash game reuses fucktons of assets from the last one so i dont get it

    2. Strickerx5

It's as much of a port as Splatoon 2 is honestly. There's simply no denying that Smash 4 set the basic framework for this game as a lot of actual character assets and stages are simply being brought over with very few changes. It's not really like all the other smash games as most of those main assets were made from the ground up between games (excluding the returning stages of course).

With that being said though, they're adding a whole lot of shit to this along with a brand new lighting engine so simply calling it a port (or even a deluxe version) is simply wrong. It's a full on sequel or, at least, how much of a sequel you can make when you're working with virtually the same hardware with a relatively small time window between releases.

I'd give it a sequel title way before things like Fifa XX or CoD.

    3. Dejimon11

Despite the fact that Sonic Mania was heavily criticized by everybody for reusing past stages

    4. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

You're right. It's a port of every Smash game to Switch.

      Super Smash Ultimate!

(You see a "Port" at the end crossed out.)

      runs on a new engine

most of the content is old but ultimately remade

Pretty much no one was right about this one lol

  9. Vegeta can't wear armor at the Tenkaichi Budokai, so he went with just the one-piece. The entire Buu conundrum happens right after, in which he was dead for most of it, so he didn't really have an opportunity to slap the armor back on. Rather clever justification for a saga redesign.
  10. No Wild Pokemon Battling is exactly what Pokemon Colosseum did, and I struggle to consider what XD did as random encounters, so I'm not concerned as long as the wandering Pokemon trainers pick up the training slack, whether by rebattling or there just being exponentially more of them. I'm just ready for my Kanto Gym Leader remix.
  11. Reminder that Motoi Sakuraba's music is a goddamn international treasure.

  12. Good thing the first switch Pokémon game is a remake.

Gen IV was the first DS Pokémon main game and Gen VI was the first 3DS Pokémon main game, and they were putrid platypus pus.

Better to get the hardware down completely instead of having to do that while making completely original layouts and designs and everything.

    1. Marcello

      Gen IV was great, though.

    2. Nix

Gen IV redeemed itself with Platinum.

  13. Hi.

Dragonball Super's 2nd opening syncs scarily well with I Am All of Me. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1906120346342649/permalink/2048917732062909/

  14. A cutesey series at face value Kirby may be, but it's epic moments are truly memorable, especially with the right presentation. Like, I can't think of anything in the SNES era that gives off the level of satisfaction and accomplishment than the sequence when NOVA explodes and disintegrates and the eye outlines are shown and fading again while that Green Greens remix is playing.

    1. blueblur98

slicing an entire volcano in half,

the ultra sword finisher you do during magolor's first phase and the hypernova laser

are some of my favorites. kirby is so awesome.

      Star Dream

wants to straight delete life outright.

      And he's fucking awesome.

  15. I know this might be considered...I guess brazen's the word, to think about, but Iwonder if youth culture became more accepting of transgender identity and crossdressing in general partially due to Pokemon. Male Bellossoms, male Gardevoirs, female Machamps, male Lopunnies, and so on, just these Pokemon that have the distinct visual characteristics of a certain sex, but can be the opposite sex in-game without a single issue put about it.

Like, it wouldn't be something that people would look at and instantly point to being the pivotal moment that brought acceptance, but a consistent and constant element in the Pokemon games as the generation grew up that it just became something "normal", for lack of word, to them.

    1. MegasonicZX

I find that a bit of a stretch. I honestly forget pokemon genders are even a thing half the time since it just seems like such a pointless (for lack of a better word) thing to focus on.

    2. Monkey Destruction Switch

      Monkey Destruction Switch

Not to be mean, but that seems extremely unlikely to me.

    3. Polkadi~☆

I don't even play Pokemon, yet I still care deeply for my friend's journey into changing their gender.

So I must say, that's very much unlikely. We're just more laid back, why should we get mad at someone for changing their gender? You do you, basically.

  16. For how isolated the Classic Sonic world kinda feels, that Starlight Zone exists means that there is at least a suburban town there. Honestly, I would have liked for Starlight Zone to be where Sonic and co. chill out when not adventuring, at least in the Classic universe.

    1. Strickerx5

The thing about the Classic styled games is that they never flesh out the world like that.

    2. Osmium

uhh, there are cities and industries everywhere. It's not like it's a completely barren place.

    3. Wraith

A good chunk of levels in these games have cities in the background

  17. Unpopular opinion: The Skill system in Secret Rings should be a feature in standard Sonic games. I thoroughly enjoyed the customization there and would like to similar stuff in both Classic and Modern games.

    1. MegasonicZX

Agreed so long as they don't lock better control behind it. movement upgrades can be nice but I want the base control to work well too.

    2. Diogenes

i could see benefit in some degree of customization, but SatSR went way overboard with it. i think something closer to Generations' skill system would be better, but they'd still need to come up with actually interesting skills and not be so stingy with how many you can equip.

  18. Star Allies datamine spoilers-related

Seeing that Kirby segment there really makes me wish Matthew still did BitF from time to time, in light of what's coming now.

    1. Blacklightning

While it's kinda neat that Star Allies is still getting character support I have to wonder what it'll even mean if there's no new modes or stages to play them on.

    2. Dejimon11

      >Dark Meta Knight

  19. Oh jeez, Super Mighty and Super Ray are gonna be a thing, I just realized.

  20. Damn, if only Marble Garden Zone was in the game now. Imagine playing that zone in that purple sunset backdrop it does as it stage transitions to Carnival Night.

  21. You are now imagining Sonic Mania Plus confirmed for the first time, without Mighty and Ray announced, and this trailer being the surprise first instance of the two being included in the game.

  22. I have never found a Giant Ring in Chemical Plant Act 2. On one hand that's infuriating, but on the other hand that's encouraging to know I haven't fully cracked the stage yet.

    1. TheOcelot

      It's called "exploration" XP

I've found three in that act. I actually only recently found a third one because some are very well hidden in places we wouldn't think to look.

  23. Welp, time to add Egg Rocket Zone to my list of Sonic songs that steadily grew onto me.

  24. If that claim is true, Hannity is effectively saying that Cohen and his lawyers willfully committed perjury on something that could be refuted in minutes. So either Hannity's lying, or Cohen and co. are lying. In court. Badly.
