  1. Flying Battery Act 2 is the most elegantly designed stage in Mania.

    1. TheOcelot

Have you explored the lowest route?

  2. The regular Eggman boss theme in Mania is the weakest boss theme of the 2D Sonic games, after Sonic Advance's boss theme.

    1. Maxtiis

      Even more than Sonic 1's?

    2. Shaddy Zaphod

      Shaddy Zaphod

I think you're forgetting the Shadow the hedgehog boss themes

      because they're incredibly forgettable

    3. AWild No.1 washed up gamer

I disagree. I thought it had a lot of energy to it and was really pumping, like, it had sort of a threatening feel to it but was exciting at the same time.

I do like both boss themes in sonic advance 2 though.

    4. Monkey Destruction Switch

@Shaddy the Zaphod He said "2D".

@Maxtiis I seriously love the Sonic 1 boss theme.

    5. Shaddy Zaphod

      Shaddy Zaphod

Oh, well then I'd still put Sonic Blast forward. That game is forgettable, I don't even remember the music hardly.

    6. AWild No.1 washed up gamer

      AWild No.1 washed up gamer

Sonic blast had like the best soundtrack of the game gear games, like, those tracks are dying for a remaster, I'm dead serious.

      Shaddy Zaphod

Ex-the fuck-scuse me I don't think that's how you spell Sonic Chaos at all

      Like who would choose this:

      Over this?:

    9. Shaddy Zaphod

      Shaddy Zaphod

The people who would choose this

over whatever the hell this is

Your example is also from Triple Trouble, not Chaos.

    10. Blacklightning

I think you're forgetting the Shadow the hedgehog boss themes

I dunno, I thought Egg Dealer was pretty neat.

Pity it's the silliest boss in the entire game.

      I raise you this:

To what w-w-what is this-turn that crap off son!

      >implying ruby delusions isn't an actual god-tier masterpiece

    13. Wraith

Ruby Delusions is the best boss theme Eggman has had...ever?

    14. Shaddy Zaphod

      Shaddy Zaphod

Oh shit, I thought he was talking about the miniboss theme this whole time. Yeah no, either he spoke wrong or he's literally crazy.

    15. Indigo Rush

      Indigo Rush

Ruby Delusions is the coolest boss theme so idk where he's coming from.

    16. AWild No.1 washed up gamer

      AWild No.1 washed up gamer

I wonder what the main hidden palace zone boss theme is called? I gotta give that one some props too for sounding so different yet clownishly psycho.

Edit: it also plays in the studiopolis and metallic madness boss.

    17. Maxtiis

@Monkey Destruction SwitchI do too, I just love Mania's more. It's my second favorite boss theme after Sonic 3's.

    18. Ferno

Sonic Advance 1's boss theme sounded like something from Jaws

    19. MegasonicZX

Are we talking about ruby delusions or his second boss theme? If its the second then I can see where your coming from (though I do still enjoy it) but if we're talking about the first me and you are going to be having a serious throwdown here son.

    20. Milo

lolwut, Ruby Delusions is a new classic in the series' collection of Eggman boss themes

  3. Reminder that the Silver Sonic section in the Metal Sonic boss fight is objectively awful in flow and design.

    1. Blacklightning

No joke, I didn't actually know you had to spindash to get a guaranteed hit on Metal there until someone here told me so.. I thought the idea was to hit Silver in midair at just the right angle to bop him into Metal, and the fact that there's more feedback for this false angle of attack than the intended one is really irritating.

  4. tbh, I'm quite intrigued by the concept of a Phantom Ruby. Just something that can compete with the Chaos Emeralds. By virtue of sequel hook, there's now no real reason to bring the Modern Universe into this potential plot anymore, but the Classic series of games now has a plot with Rubies, and maybe other gemstones, that it can use to tie the mythos together across more classic titles.

    1. Milo

Classic Sonic games did have magical artifacts other than the Chaos Emeralds before Mania. Sonic CD had the Time Stones, Knuckles' Chaotix had the Chaos Rings, Flickies Island had the Flickies being able to travel through dimensions via rings.

  5. For me:

Press Garden > Titanic Monarch >>> Mirage Saloon > Studiopolis. I just can't bring myself to enjoy the latter two like I do the former two.

    1. TheOcelot

When you say Press Garden, do you like both acts?

Studiopolis > Mirage Saloon > Titanic Monarch > Press Garden for me.

I'm the exact opposite. When it comes to creative, cleaver and and fluid level design, Studiopolis & Mirage Saloon are by far my favorite new zones.

    2. NikoS

      I'd rank it:

Titanic Monarch > Press Garden (act 2) > Mirage Saloon > Studiopolis (act 2) > Press Garden (act 1) > Studiopolis (act 1)

(note: in a rank sistem which ranges from 10 to 0 all entries are ranked between 10 and 8,5)

    3. DiamondX

Studiopolis > Titanich Monarch > Press Garden > Mirage Saloon for me.

    4. AWild No.1 washed up gamer

      AWild No.1 washed up gamer

Press garden>  mirage saloon & knuckles> studiopolis> titanic tyrant zone.

I always thought these stages were connected in that their themes are heavily based on motifs from classic movie films.

    5. Blue Wisp

      Blue Wisp

Press Garden act 1 is better than act 2 there I said it.

    6. Gresh11990

Green Hill zone > every zone in the game.

I can’t wait to see what’ll they do with Green Hill zone in sonic mania 2.

  6. How does Titanic Monarch measure up to you compared to Scrap Brain, Wing Fortress, Metallic Madness, and Death Egg?

    1. Penny

i think it's by far the best, despite it being a little too long. Death Egg sucks, Wing Fortress is blah, Scrap Brain sucks too, and the original Metallic Madness is pretty meh. so i guess it's not saying much, but regardless i think Titanic Monarch is fantastic

    2. AWild No.1 washed up gamer

      AWild No.1 washed up gamer

Visually: it beats the others to me. The colors work so well together in both acts and it just screams eggman empire everywhere.

Level design: super tedious, almost felt like I was playing eggmanland my first time playing it. I've gotten used to it now. The others beat it in that regard.

    3. Adamabba

I still don't really like any of the classic final levels but I'd rather play Titanic Monarch than any of the others

    4. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

I typically stop playing Mania when I reach TMZ, so that should say something. It's not as good as SK's Death Egg, but it's better than either Wing Fortres, Scrap Brain or the original Metallic Madness. That said though, Mania's Metallic Madness is great fun.

    5. Blacklightning

Level was okay, boss was a disapointment. It doesn't beat either of the Death Egg finales in my mind for sure.

  7. The Hydrocity in Mania is a fake. It has OG Sonic pillars in the background, not the Sonic 3 Sonic pillars. :V

    1. Ferno

they also call it Hydrocity instead of Hydrocity in that game

      what a disgrace

    2. AWild No.1 washed up gamer

      AWild No.1 washed up gamer

The phantom ruby made it look that way.

    3. The drunkard from space!

      The drunkard from space!

The phantom ruby makes everything fake. In fact, Sonic Mania itself doesn't even exist!

      And neither do we! :o

  10. I'm in the minority of People Who Like Shadow the Hedgehog.

    1. Strickerx5

... the game or the character?

  11. Hello everyone, I’m at work and have Metallic Madness Present JP playing on the stereo and everyone here is jamming to the beat and that’s just awesome.

  12. Voldemort killed Snape.

    1. KHCast

Harry Potter killed dumbledore and made love to Ron

    2. PaulyBFromDa303

      Snape kills Dumbledore!

Which brings me to this throwback

  13. Real talk, since BotW is heavily inspired by Zelda 1, I'd be totally down with taking that even further, and have the next Zelda be a shot-for-shot remake of Zelda I in open world BotW 3D. Here's your sword, now it's safe to go alone, go find the eight triangles, knock yourself out.

    1. Rusty Spy

      Rusty Spy

Would've made a stellar DLC campaign.

  14. This fucking Metal Gear Zelda mission with that Korok is seriously making me like BotW significantly less. What pinhead keeps putting stealth shit in Zelda and why is that person still allowed to earn a living wage at Nintendo.

    1. Blue Wisp

      Blue Wisp

    2. Blacklightning

No joke, a fucking wolf spawned in the middle of my first try and scared the little fucker into running backwards, forcing me to start the whole thing over when I was near to the end. Then I had to do the entire thing over a second fucking time because there was no indication that you needed to walk right up to the little shit right at the end and straight up talk to him, because that immediately fails you everywhere else. Fuck my luck.

  15. Thanks a lot Zora's Domain and Vah Ruta, you made me more invested into BotW than I thought I would be.

  16. Holy shit, move aside Sonic, the Lizalfos in BotW are putting your speed to shame.

  17. Was Mania the first time Nack, Bean, and Bark were given 16 bit sprites?

    1. Dejimon11
    2. TheOcelot

      *32-bit sprites

For a 2d game, I believe so, yes.

    3. Mr Loopone

      Mr Loopone

Unless you count the portraits from Sonic the Fighters, then yes.

For Bark, he is also the first time that he is in 2D. Fang was in a few games at the time though.

  18. I'm headcanoning Knuckles & Knuckles mode in Mania as Knuckles taking on an echidna apprentice and showing him the ropes.

It's an alternate dimension now, there are more echidnas in this one, fight me. =p

    1. AWild No.1 washed up gamer

      AWild No.1 washed up gamer

The apprentice later became boom knuckles.

    2. Patticus

Idea: 3D adventure game, roughly akin to the Darksiders games, or Biomutant I guess, where Knuckles' future son or daughter has to step up and save their old man. Features an ability upgrade tree, platforming, weapons etc, and it takes place across many open-ended levels reminiscent of earlier games, but with prettier visuals.

  19. Well, damn. How do I get the Perfect Bonus in the Mania Bonus Stage with the 4 Spheres and 12 Rings all in a square? I'm trying to figure out where to jump and reverse course.

    1. TheOcelot

If you can record footage it would be more helpful

  20. It might not be the "best" remix in Mania, but Flying Battery Act 2 theme is certainly the smoothest, if that makes sense. Everything about the song and its composition flows superbly.

    1. DiamondX

      It's the best imo.

    2. AWild No.1 washed up gamer

      AWild No.1 washed up gamer

It's up there though, right next to both stardust speedways as my top favorite remixes.

    3. The drunkard from space!

      The drunkard from space!

FBZ Act II is my second favorite remix from Mania, the first being Hydrocity (Thats right one word fight me irl ;)) Act II.

  21. The shrines in BOTW remind me a lot of the Gaia Temple puzzles in Sonic Unleashed.

Good thing too, I absolutely love the puzzles in Unleashed. It's like charting familiar territory.

    1. AWild No.1 washed up gamer

      AWild No.1 washed up gamer

That was my favorite part of unleashed wii plus, finding all the hidden collectables

    2. Forte-Metallix

I really think Sonic could benefit from an open-world game with tons of mini-Zones with puzzles and platforming challenges.

  22. >Catch Firefly in BOTW

    >Says cooking with monster parts makes Link gotta go fast

    >Gets elixir that's basically Metal Gear Zelda

  23. Regular reminder that Sonic Mania Emerald Stages are still piss garbage to control and the walls should be at least at a color wavelength below infrared for actual viewing recognition.

    1. MegasonicZX

I respectfully disagree with everything you just said (though, yeah the walls could be a little easier to see).

    2. Dejimon11

Regular reminder that somebody needs to git gud

    3. Ferno

I wish the drift was a thing in those stages.

  24. The first and second Sonic 3 Special Stages don't require you to jump at all.

The third Special Stage requires you to jump so you can get the Perfect Bonus.

The 4th Special Stage makes it required for you to jump to complete the stage, but the stage railroads you into the forced jumps so you know you have to do them.

The 5th Special Stage lacks the railroading. You have to make the conscious effort to explore the map and jump around, but at this point you should be comfortable with the jumping.

Just another reason I like the Sonic 3 Special Stages a ton. It's a natural player-teaching moment.

  25. Playing Breath of the Wild for the first time, and ten minutes in I died to a blue Bokoblin. Excellent.
