  1. @Speederino if this is the same person, your tip-off formed the basis of the new Commentocracy from Jim Sterling.

Yep! I got an email from Jim's art guy yesterday asking how I should be credited lol

FIRE EMBLEM WARRIORS GAVE US THIS.

    OMG

  3. Given how important the Metroid hatchling and the bond it has with Samus is in Samus Returns, and how cloning is a recurring feature in Metroid games later in the timeline, I won't be surprised if the hatchling is revived, soul and all, using Chozo technology or something.

  4. The Mania Emerald Stages are, without fucking fail, the worst the series has ever had. Shitty controls, rubber banding UFO, no invincibility frames so you hit one batch of spikes into another, I am stunned the devs were such utter pinheads to allow this to be greenlit.

    1. Soniman

      Soniman

completley dissagree about all of this besides the frames, I find it one of the better ones

      A wild west steam engine

I am sorry that you disliked them. Personally, I found them pretty fun (except special stage five that one is a bubbles in the behind).

    3. Kuzu

      Kuzu

They were rather simple once I figured them out, but to each their own.

    4. Dr. Mechano

      Dr. Mechano

Completely disagree. I loved Mania's special stages, and personally found Sonic Heroes to have the worst, most broken special stages ever.

Hope you love losing momentum just from moving left and right, and I really hope you love getting stuck on the ceiling and randomly turned around! Seriously, Heroes' special stages are trash.

Heroes's controls are slippery by fault of the tubular design screwing with the momentum.

Mania's controls are bad to create fake difficulty.

      Strickerx5

I mean they're still not great and I think that there are a multitude of better ways in which to allow the player to obtain emeralds beyond some more damn special stages... but I have to say that these are some of the best the series has had thus far imo. They're far from perfect (especially with the lack of invincibility frames) but they didn't make me want to pull my hair out this time around so there's that. Hell, after forcing myself to master them they actually became, dare I say, pleasant.

Though again, if there's one thing I actually want to have die off in this franchise, it's special stages. Well, that and time limits.

      A wild west steam engine

One thing I didn't like was you have to go through the stages again if you just wanna have fun with them.

They're not very good but they're not very bad. There's a weird learning curve because of all the unnecesarry clunk but once I got the hang of them I didn't mind. They're basically like the other special stages.

    13. Strickerx5
    14. Milo

      Milo

Nah man, I disagree. They're easily find them among the best. I mean, Special Stage 5 was hard as hell on my first try, but they're great otherwise.

And man, if you think the controls for this are bad I'd love to hear your thoughts on the controls for the Advance trilogy. Or Sonic CD, for that matter.

*I easily find them among the best

Oh alright, lemme just switch it over to

A psychedelic marble board rotation game

A gated scripted memorization and reaction based obstacle course running game

A 3D exploration-based enemy room game with indeterminable depth due to 2D sprites and wonky scaling

A graph-based connect the dots and collect the spheres puzzle game on an indeterminably sized sphere in a 3D space

      A broken mess

A 3D collection-based sky diving game with indeterminable depth due to 2D sprites and screen location

      A 3D collection-based exploration game

A 3D collection-based biplane driving/walking game with indeterminable depth due to 2D sprites

      A 3D touch-screen-based precision challenge

      A waterboat race

Or a gyro-controlled collectathon maze in a full 6-axis 3D space on a system with viewing angle-specific 3D capabilities as a selling point

  5. I'm liking Sonic Mania less and less as time goes on, especially with the Special Stages. I've never felt such pathetic frame delay when a game's speed increases before.

SHUT UP!!!!! MANIA IS PERFECT!!!!! IT'S THE ONLY GOOD SONIC GAME EVER!!!!1! HOW DARE YOU CRITICIZE IT FOR THINGS THAT ARE OBJECTIVELY TRUE!!!!! FAKE NEWS!!!!!

  11. Personally, I think Dragonball Super's Cabba's English voice would be absolutely perfect for Fire Emblem's Roy in English dubs.

Yes. The only XV2 VA that got changed is Aaron Roberts who played Hit.

Hit is now voiced by Matthew Mercer.

  12. I was listening to the Sonic Mania intro theme when the Misty and Brock news dropped, and now I can't not associate Friends with Ash, Misty, and Brock.
  13. Gotta Catch Ya Later indeed.

  14. Going back to what I said last night about Doomsday Zone's subtlety, this 3D recreation of the Zone is something I like, specifically @2:27.

Just the way the Death Egg explodes proper as the kickoff point for the chase sequence and the start of the 3 Chaos Doomsday remix really stresses that the Egg's done, but Eggman is not.

  15. One reason I like Doomsday Zone a lot is that it's so subtle with the situation. Sonic 2 and 3 had paraded the Death Egg threat the entire time, but then when it finally goes down, there's no fanfare about it; the game doesn't end, and Eggman does not go down with his ship. The game establishes that Eggman is still incredibly threatening even without his Death Egg if he's let go, especially with the Master Emerald in his possession, and it takes Super Sonic to chase him down. It's a smooth way of saying that Eggman's threats do not begin and end with the Death Egg, and that this conflict will survive that base.

  16. What is your favorite Fire Emblem song, and why is it What Lies at the End?

  17. How viable is playing Steam on a laptop?

    1. FaultyWindmill

      FaultyWindmill

Well Steam's just a store application so that'll run on just about anything. As for the games themselves it's completely up to the laptops specs like any PC.

    2. Solister

      Solister

Not bad, this is just change according to your Laptop specs, mine have an Intel Core i7 and Intel Graphics 520 Mobile and it's just excellent to play games, being Steam or not. Of course, being a Laptop it certainly will have less resources than a Gamer PC, but remember that you can take your games everywhere you want.

    3. -Robin-

      -Robin-

Do you think an Intel Core i3 with the graphics 520 work for Sonic Mania?

    4. FaultyWindmill

      FaultyWindmill

Pretty much any laptop this side of the millennium is gonna run Sonic Mania fine. The game's specs are as retro as its visuals.

I'm told that the first song I ever responded to after the first diagnosis was  Emerald Hill Zone. So that song is a real special one for me.

  23. Assault on the Halberd in Kirby Super Star is a crazy underrated song. You can just feel the confidence the composer had in knowing this crazy mess would sound great.
