  1. Fall guys Stream with SEGA Europe at 6PM, almost certainly showing off the leaked Sonic skin coming this week:

  2. So what's everybody's playing habit with 3D All-Stars so far? Are you playing each game in sequence (100% or otherwise) or are you jumping between them?

    1. VisionaryofSUPER

I'm doing Sunshine seperate from the other two because I feel the other two would just throw me off of my groove. I want to 100% Sunshine for the sake of it, and I imagine the more mechanically sound games would sour me.

    2. JezMM

Just for the novelty of it, I'm jumping between them - doing 5 stars on each every session (with the exception of when I unlock a Bowser stage - I always do those immediately and will just get 1 less star on my next session if it means I get a 6th one on this play session).  Also to sort of artifically reproduce that "first play" experience where as a kid I would jump between courses whenever I got stuck on one, I'm using a random number generator to choose which star to get next.

It's a little cumbersome as it causes a lot of extra time running back and forth across the hubs, but enjoying the variety otherwise, considering I normally play these games pretty straightforward as an adult.

    3. Tracker_TD

      I did Sunshine 100% > Galaxy 100% > 64 100%. Finished 64 this afternoon. Good times.

I did Sunshine first because nostalgia, then Galaxy since I've played 64 so many times already.

    4. Sean

Not playing All-Stars specifically but I've been jumping around 64's PC port and Sunshine and Galaxy via Dolphin, the latter using my old save file in a Luigi playthrough.

    5. Iko

I got the game yesterday, and I'm already at more than 60 stars (shines) in Sunshine. In the past I played it like 2 or 3 times in total, regardless I still remember most of the blue coins locations.

I only started 64 and got the chomp star in Bob-omb Battlefield, while in Galaxy I got the first story-driven star and stopped for now.

I love Sunshine a lot, they made the controls much worse compared to the original but I can get over it, I'm used to play games with bad controls, in my gamer life I played many of them.

  3. Has it been confirmed at all if players on PS4 and PS5 will be able to talk in the same party chats? One of the things I'm trying to find out before I start pre-order hunting.

  4. Mario 3D All Stars is on the UK Nintendo Store now, just pre-ordered there myself.

  5. Something I've seen talked about over the years is why Sonic takes so long to reach Shadow when he first sees Chaos Control/ why the Chaos Control is so unsually slow in Sa2.

I honestly can't tell if they were trying to do a dramatic slow motion shot and it just doesn't quite read properly?

    1. Cuz

I've always read that scene, where they slow down as they cross each other, as Sonic actually being able to perceive Shadow warping as a perk of his super speed.

  6. Does anybody know how Sa1 / 2 stores cutscenes? Are they video files that could in theory be swapped out via modding?

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

They're played out in real-time and in-engine. They can't be swapped out. There are a small handful of pre-rendered ones, but in some cases they have live in-game assets rendered on top (e.g. scenes where characters escape from the crashing Egg Carrier) so if you replace those files you'll still see the characters on top of it. I don't know if any work has been done reverse engineer the cutscene format so that they can be reprogrammed or redirected to other video files.

  7. One of the greatest world mysteries is what on Earth Windmile Isle Act 1 from Unleashed HD classifies as an S Rank worthy run. Even after I got it I still don't get the distinction between and S Rank and a very high A Rank

  8. About to stream a wee bit of Sonic 3 AIR over on twitch, anybody had issues with the game being slightly choppy for no reason?

  9. Gonna stream a wee bit of SA2 hero story and chao garden extended in a few mins before my main stream tonight. Come say hi if you need to kill some time! https://www.twitch.tv/thatoddliam

  10. Has anybody played with the Chao World Extended mod on Sa2? Debating about getting it for streaming later but I'm curious about how good it is.

Already got the numerous other quality-of-life mods set up so we should be good for the main game 😅

    1. Emperor Spooky

      Emperor Spooky

Pretty good, actually. Adds in a lot of stuff such as acquiring certain Chao that would only be obtainable through hacking, different colors, different faces and personalities, and even stuff that was left the cutting room floor.

There's little quirks that are added to the Chao that gives the Chao garden new life, such as Chao with happy eyes randomly giggling, clumsy Chao wobbling around after they trip, or even one Chao walking up to another one and starting a conversation in gibberish. It's really charming. Dark Chao may also walk up to other Chao and punch them, but it's an optional feature.

      Overall, I'd recommend it.

  11. Gonna be testing out my (basic) Twitch setup with some Sonic Heroes if anyone wants to come say hi!

  12. Is Crash Team Racing worth buying and getting into now? Not fully kept up with all the post-launch content but wasn't sure if I've missed the boat or not.

    1. Ryannumber1Scarer

Sure, a lot of content and you can usually get it fairly cheap now.

    2. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

It's a fun racer. Just don't spend any extra money on it.

    3. KHCast

There’s a lot of content but it’s in a fortnite esque rotation cycle, so if you can deal with that and the Microtransactions and output of coins in game, it’s alright. If you can find it cheap, I’d say go for it. Personally I was turned off by all the aforementioned bs, but a lot of people still enjoy it

    4. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

Yeah, what KHCast said about the microtransactions is really true. Some people claim that the in-game payout of coins is balanced and is more than enough for you to unlock everything, but unless you're winning online races left, right and centre, the I really don't find that to be the case at all. Moreover, the very fact that they're even present in the game is a big red flag to me.

  13. Now that we're half way through June, do you think we're going to get any Sonic news this month?

    1. Rabid-Coot

Yes a small birthday post later this week.

  14. That design is really cool! I like that it's not just another generic cuboid. I've missed consoles that have their own look.

  15. "Hmph! You actually thought you could defeat me by transforming into a monster?"

    1. Polkadi~☆

hey, don't talk that way to your mother

  16. Does anyone own any of those all in one emulation handheld machines? I'm trying to find something pocket size and quite like the look of the RG360M but it's a bit steep here in the UK from what I can see.

    1. CleverSonicUsername

Could look into this. It's pretty affordable at 66 bucks, and if it can run PSP, N64, and Dreamcast games as well as that video would lead you to believe, then it's worth that price.

I don't own any myself, but am considering picking this one up if I get any at all. I just sank a hundred into a Pi4 build though so, not for a while.

Edit: Will say I'm not a fan of the shoulder buttons being laid out the way they are, but it's an improvement over similar handhelds that lack L2 and R2's entirely. If they had designed it with grips and organized those buttons the way they should be laid out then that'd be ideal.

  17. Still wanting a full Unleashed Rerelease but I swear, imagine if it was one of the games to accept a performance increase on Project X. Unleashed in HDR 60fps would be BEAUTIFUL!

  18. Props to Unleashed Wii for clearly dictating what is expected for an S rank from stage to stage.  Especially in the Werehog stages where, if you don't get the S rank on your first go, it's easy to tell what you need to do more of or less of next time around.

Having the medal system tied to ranks also created a nice feedback loop of getting good ranks to get more medals, which unlocks more gia gate rooms where you can get collectables and more missions.

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

Totally disagree. Whilst it's nice that the game outlines how to get each rank, making it based solely on time and nothing else is pretty boring. And then tying ranks into the progression system is bollocks.

"So you beat all the levels up to this point, eh? Oh but you didn't beat them will enough so you'll have to go and beat them them more to progress."

Rush Adventure had virtually the same problem. I'm not going to defend the mandatory hunting of Sun and Moon Medals in Unleashed HD to progress (especially in the daytime stages where they're so counter intuitive), but I'll take exploration over the demand that I "play better" any day of the week.

    2. FaultyWindmill

To be fair, it never prevents progress for the main campaign and you can get a reasonable amount of the side missions before having to break a sweat on the likes of Eggmanland to get more medals with better ranks.

For the boost gameplay I prefer it being based on time since speed is prioritised over everything else anyway. The werehog has a three way split between time, rings, and Dark Gia force collected which suits that style more, although some sort of point system based on combos would've made sense too.

  19. Just finished a 100% run of UnWiished. Fatigue started to set in at the end getting all the collectables in order to unlock the final mission but overall I'm surprised how well this held up. I still prefer the HD version for various reasons but as somebody who loves Unleashed, the Wii version stands fairly strong as an alternate way to experience the game.  It even handles certain things better than than the HD version.

    1. Diogenes

i still think it's got one of the most interesting lives systems in any sonic game. one of the few times when i felt a game actually justified having lives, even if they're still not super important to the experience.

  20. Taking your breath, stealing your mind.

And all that was real is left behiiiind.

  21. I feel like the 2008 Prince of Persia game is slept on nowadays. I need to grab the steam version sometime and replay it since it's been about 10 years for me but I remember having a great time with it. Still got my 360 steelbook copy.

    1. Teospooker

Pro tip, stick to the 360 version, the DLC epilogue (wich is sadly kinda important) has never been released on PC.

    2. FaultyWindmill

Oh really? Knew about the dlc but didn't know it's not made it to PC. How weird!

    3. Teospooker

Back then DLC small story portions that were not expansions were an actual novelty, and Ubisoft cited "buisness reasons" behind the exclusion. Considering they didn't gave the studio too much of a budget for it (hence why it's not localized in the standard multi-5 languages in terms of voice acting like the vanilla game) methinks they kept things to a minimum and they thought the PC market was the ideal one to cut corners from.
It also makes sense considering before Dark Souls literally opened the gates, the idea of PC versions for all upcoming console games was not an immediate thought, even with the rising of Steam.

  22. How active is TSR's online on PC? Tempted to rebuy it on Steam, but then I'm also equally as tempted to just redownload transformed as well.

    1. Sean

      Not very.

    2. KHCast

That description lol. Did they expect this to go into the esports pro circuit or something haha

  23. Long shot. Does anybody have a pal Mega Drive mini that they used the Project Lunar mod on? I lost the backup files needed to make it work or uninstall it.

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

I do. If you've not sourced them already, let me know and I'll get them sorted for you.

    2. FaultyWindmill

Hey man! Nah I've been hunting around for a good hour and a half and they're definitely well hidden if they're out there at all. If you're sure you have the time to help that'd be a MASSIVE help, thank you!

    3. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

Cool. I'll go get it sorted for you now. Wasn't sure who on earth this "ThatOddLiam" was popping up in my notifications was though. Lol

    4. FaultyWindmill

Hahaha I'll be honest, the moment I changed it I did think "this might actually be a confusing time for a name change". No rush for this dude, really appreciate you taking the time to help!

  24. Been working through Sonic X on Netflix. It's so surreal hearing Mike Pollock's early Eggman laugh being a deeper pitch and much more "normal" sounding than the higher pitched one that's now the default after refining the voice over the years.
