  1. Early screenings sound pretty positive and the reception to the trailers likely means that people will overlook a potentially generic story. I feel it's a safe assumption, but we'll see. My point is that a bad film will likely put off people from seeing another one. Bad video games are what Sonic has to worry about.
  2. It's just another bad or bland video game movie in a sea of them (see Assassin's Creed and Tomb Raider 2018). Detective Pikachu is definitely more the exception than the rule. I don't think there's any need to worry that this is going to affect the perception of the franchise as a whole.
  3. While I can't say I'm surprised by what I'm seeing at this point, the animation of that bizarre body actually managed to lower my opinion further. I feel bad for any Sonic fan working on this nonsense.
  4. And it's also just a competition. It's not trying to imply that Shadow would leave Rouge and Omega out to dry in a more dire situation.
  5. And that was fucking great. Good enough for me to actually react out loud. If I had to pick, my favourite moments were probably when Omega turned to Rouge in shame and Shadow's gradual resignation. Man, would I love a 2D game with a style and set of cutscenes like this (EDIT: with a higher budget of course).
  6. Sumo themselves told us this isn't true. With the higher amount of work involved in creating three different vehicles for the cast, character slots had to be cut. The clones were actually a bonus that Sumo worked extra hours to complete. As much as I love Opa-Opa, it made more sense to prioritise evolving the gameplay over the roster, especially when most these franchises have a relatively small fanbase.
  7. It sounds like we might get to see a brand new Fire Pokémon in the movie. Hopefully it's not just Scorbunny.
  8. The character length is only relevant for the Japanese name though.
  9. Standards are constantly changing and the conversation around what is or isn't appropriate in art and entertainment has been going on for centuries. The difference is that now we have the internet, where we can share a wider variety of personal views on a regular basis. These will often clash, as different parts of the world (never mind individuals) are more right or left wing on subjects than others. And remember it is possible to enjoy something while acknowledging it may have some problematic elements, particularly if it is decades old. But try not to overreact. If you can't handle these discussions without going off on one, then it would be best not to take part in them.
  10. Any chance of a Pumpkin Hill-influenced track to go with the Seaside Hill ones? Probably not, but I can't get enough of the spooky stages so here's hoping. They just went with the more popular or notable characters. This also isn't the first time Vector has been lifted from Chaotix to fulfill a required strength role (Mario and Sonic, Sonic Free Riders).
  11. I thought I told you some time back not to bring this paranoid bullshit to the thread. Whatever reason you have to hate the scary 'SJWs', this is not the place to start stirring such nonsense about the most minor of characters. I mean, do you not see the irony here!?? There is no 'they'.
  12. Well yeah, that's the point. I don't think it would have made the video any less awkward for Arin or Jirard to show enthusiasm when this is such a bizarre idea in the first place.
  13. A boring character design is generally a bad character design, though, especially when they're your protagonist.
  14. Selkies and mermaids are also mythological, yet Primarina covered both. Besides, Sobble's line could always draw a little influence from Nessie, in addition to something else. Just referencing Nessie alone is covered by Lapras anyway.
  15. True. I'm wondering if the final gym is simply Normal-type, since that doesn't have any specific visual indicator.
  16. GameXplain have analysed the map: I love the idea of Victory Road taking place in the tower itself, as it would be a nice change of pace. According to them, the gyms look to be: - Fire (although I would have guessed Steel for the industrial city, but either works) - Grass - Water - Ground - Fairy (Poison has been guessed before, but the style of the town very much lends itself to this type) - Ice - Dragon - All
  17. This was pointed out at ResetEra: I can see why Derek missed it though. The map really isn't meant to be accurate and hides a fair bit.
  18. It seems to be more or less positive at the moment (if you include the non-scored reviews, which everybody should!), if not exactly great overall. Not unexpected, when you consider it's pretty much an expanded version of the original and it's definitely better played with others than on your own.
  19. So, it looks like Grookey has a music theme, rather than a sports one. Its name in other languages uses words related to sound, so Groove + monkey makes the most sense. Scorbunny's a sports mascot all over, but that leaves Sobble, who people are now thinking might evolve into a Loch Ness-style chameleon. It's a fun idea, and different enough to Lapras, for an elusive monster to camouflage itself in water. That would really make Ghost a good candidate for a secondary type. EDIT: Soooo this advert for toys popped up for the new movie: The text under Mewtwo apparently reads:
  20. Duh, I'd forgotten about Sobble's tail. It's definitely based on a veiled chameleon: It even looks scared too, lol. They have some fun spiky "beards", so get ready for that.
  21. Looking up wolves and the UK on Wikipedia: These hellhounds are a possible inspiration, and would work well with the highlands-inspired endpoint of the map, but considering the Norse legendaries in Kalos, they could draw from any European folklore/myth.
  22. I just had a thought that Sobble could be based on: a Basilisk Lizard, with the fin on top and the wet habitat. I guess its evolution will run on water? "Basilisk" is also the name for a European monster, combining a rooster with a serpent. What is my boy/girl going to turn into? =P EDIT: I'd forgotten about its tail lol and got carried away looking at wet lizards. It's more likely a veiled chameleon
  23. I wonder if a rock will play the part of a football in Scorbunny's evolution? Could end up being a Fire/Rock-type.
  24. I just remembered that Grookey's introduction may have hinted at cricket, with the way it tapped at some marked soil as if waiting for the bowler? I wonder then if Sobble's line will reference water polo, rowing or one of the many other water sports, lending each of the starters a traditional British sport theme.
