  1. i like how twitter reminding me that i started my twitter account a year ago today just made me remember that the whole tumblr nsfw ban fiasco also happened around that time

it's really funny because now that i think of it, i don't remember any posts, threads, or news stories of people looking back at the event at all in these recent weeks. even on tumblr i didn't see anything about it on my dashboard.

People have kind of gotten over it.  All the folks who abandoned tumblr have settled into their new homes and everyone who is still on tumblr has gotten over the fact that explicit material is no longer allowed (though there are still nsfw artists on there who believe nudity in art is banned due to all the misinformation that went around, even though it's still completely acceptable on tumblr as long as there's no explicit activity happening).

All that really happened was a sort of general decrease in exposure for artists as people needlessly left because the content changes were overdramaticised by the community, or left in protest of any changes happening whatsoever.

Here's an super spicy take--Sonic games would sell better if Sega gave them mainstream advertising again

    1. Polkadi~☆

      Here’s an even spicier take:

sega hasn’t done that for any of their games in a really long time

unless you lived in japan, you weren’t getting squat

  3. https://www.cartoonbrew.com/business/christina-miller-is-stepping-down-as-president-of-cartoon-network-adult-swim-and-boomerang-183066.html

The AT&T/TimeWarner merger racks up another executive departure. Who would had seen Stuart Snyder (of CN Real infamy) serving a longer tenure as CN/[as]/Boomerang president?

    1. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

I mean, Snyder is seen nowadays as the George Lucas to Miller's Kathleen Kennedy (cuz wumon wuin' evwifhing): At least under Snyder's we had variety and creativity in shows, and went great lengths to reverse what he caused towards the end of his run.

Meanwhile, Miller chased away all action shows, made Boomerang the opposite of what it was ment to be, kept TTG stealing the whole channel, and overrall was more juvinile driven.

If this means no more TTG, instant improvement in my book

    2. Ferno

bring the CGI city aesthetic back and they can do whatever else they want tbh

like Gumball would fit those bumpers like a glove

also i know it wont happen but daytime toonami again? plz? then again we'd lose acquisitions like TTGL, KLK, and Food Wars because no way in hell would they exist on the CN side of things without 90's/ 00's levels of BRUTAL censoring, so I guess its for the best that Toonami stays where it is

    sonic at an airport

    1. Solister

Is this Sonic 2? What's the context? Gimme more details!

    2. Milo

@Solister Unfortunately no, ha. These are concepts I personally came up with for an airport-themed Sonic zone. I have some more ideas for this concept but this is what I wanted to share for now.

    3. Solister

I thought someone found one of those Sonic 2 concept arts:

Comparing now side by side I see they had their differences, but I think you couldn't get a better accolade than being confused by the own game creators, well done!

    4. Milo

      @Solister Wow, thanks!

  7. If Sonic had to trudge his way through an airport-themed platforming level...

    1. Wraith

      Great stuff

    2. SenEDDtor Missile

      SenEDDtor Missile

And have Badnik passengers and airport personnel blocking him or crowding around Eggman themed airport shops. These airport shops can also take away from Sonic exorbitant amounts of rings in exchange for their "merchandise" (like bombs, powerups and what not).

    3. Polkadi~☆

Airport security gates, which would trigger an onslaught of badniks if Sonic ran through them!

    4. dbzfan7

Terrible. Sonic should have to wait like a million hours or so to complete this stage, have his flights delayed, and would have to fight with security because they demand you to remove your shoes at airports. A total nightmare level.

  8. hey ssmb! are you ready to meet douglas fir, the talking christmas tree this holiday season?

  9. just some gesture references I thought would be interesting to share

  10. After revisiting it for the first time in years a few months back, I don't know how I even completed any of the challenges in Ford Racing 2 when I was a kid (my guess is b/c it was for a time the only PS2 game I had I guess). The handling of the cars feels awful, especially in terms of turning. It hits that perfect sour spot of mildly aiming itself to the side when you do anything but the most extreme turns, and then outright swerving towards whatever direction you're trying to play when you do an extreme turn. There is no in-between whatsoever, even at slow/alternating speeds they control like this.

I was originally going to say that it felt like the designers/programmers prioritized aiming for realism/simulation of driving a car to the point they forgot to make it fun; but on the other hand, I've never driven a car that felt this much of a pain to turn like with this one. It feels like driving a hovercraft during a thunderstorm, not a car.

  11. For those who missed it yesterday, art topic update.

  12. Only planned to watch one episode for the evening last week but ended up seeing the majority of the season, I'm honestly really surprised how much I got caught up into watching Green Eggs and Ham. Having finished it today, gotta say, I'm really impressed with this show. Besides the art direction/animation and the characters (speaking of which--special kudos to Gluntz, she by far was my favorite); I don't think I have ever constantly paused/re-winded episodes in a show so much to catch so many hidden jokes and visual gags in the backgrounds and newspapers. Besides being really clever they're also perfectly Seussian in nature. Surprisingly emotional too at one certain point.

There's a second season in the works, so I can't wait to see that; but honestly I'd love to see this crew tackle more of Seuss' works.

    1. Ferno

Would love to see them make a Grinch special, if they did it'd feel like a true successor to the old 2D classic

  13. Art topic update. Profiles for my OCs, take two~ *claps clapboard*

  14. lmao paramount better hope to god the sonic redesign actually cost them $5 million like the indiewire report says and not the rumored $35 million that's going around

    1. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

It cost $400,000 to animate this character.............. for twelve seconds.

    2. Polkadi~☆

if it costs that much to animate a twelve second clip then sign me the fuck up

  15. >mfw reading all these Stadia reviews confirming what a lot of people suspected

    1. Polkadi~☆

      so long gay google

    2. Harkofthewaa

Seriously though, all of this Cloud gaming talk needs to die until ISP's find it in their hearts to provide unthrottled internet. Stadia: up to 4K 60fps gaming till your 30GB a month fast data runs out in like three hours. Then you have to wait a month to be able to play again.

    seems accurate

  18. Just realized May 2020 is going to the big CG animated film battle of the television series.

    The Sponges vs. the Scoobs.

    1. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

And both just so happen to show how the main characters met their pets.

    2. Zaysho

@Supah Berry ...so Shaggy is the pet?

    3. Ryannumber1Santa

Huh, I guess they changed the plot. Originally it was a prequel to the entire series iirc

  19. First trailer for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.

Surprisingly the story is neither the Kamp Korral prequel or the riff on It’s A Wonderful Life (with the film previously being subtitled It’s A Wonderful Sponge)...

it’s a road trip movie, with SpongeBob/Patrick looking for an abducted Gary. Could be fun but the first SpongeBob movie had shades of this already (they’re even driving the Krabby Patty vehicle).

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

Does everything have to be 3D animation these days?

    2. Panda Claus

      Panda Claus

I like the animation style. It reminds me of the Peanuts movie.

    3. PC the Hedgehog

      PC the Hedgehog

The "irony" joke is the first classic Spongebob-esque joke I've seen the show do in...heck, I can't even remember. And the animation style, despite being 3D, looks a bit more subdued and less completely in-your-face wacky like the show has been for many years.

As an old school Spongebob fan who hasn't liked the show since season 4...I'm intrigued.

    4. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

The animation looks really good. I'm just fed up of seeing everything in 3D nowadays.

    5. Jango

Blue Blood I though you were being ironic xD Why they didn't made Sponge Bob realistic!?!? It makes much more seeeenseeeee.

      Also Keanu Reeves.

    6. Milo

@Blue Blood Unfortunately none of the major Western studios really cares about giving 2D animated films a shot, unless you are based off of a TV series (My Little Pony in 2017, Teen Titans Go! in 2018); and even those don’t get much in the way of publicity nowadays. Even the last SpongeBob movie from 2015 spent most of its marketing on the live-action/CG scenes, despite most of the movie being a 2D animated film like the show.

For now you can only rely on indies and anime for 2D animated movies; as well as presumably streaming companies in the near future (Netflix has Klaus, their first original animated film, coming out this weekend; and that’s a 2D film with very impressive lighting technology that gives it a 3D appearance). And even so, don’t expect them to get wide theatrical releases.

(I also wish your statement on every animated film needing to be 3D was technically true, but unfortunately plenty of stop-motion animated films —namely Aardman and Laika’s library— have been roundly ignored by many audiences as well.)

    7. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

@JangoNope. It's really tiresome to see virtually everything rendered in 3D these days. Don't get me wrong, the animation of films such as this and Spiderverse is impressive. I'd so much prefer to see hand drawn 2D animation in most 3D films.

@Milo Yeah, I understand that. It just bothers me. Sponge bob is better than the Disney/Pixar look though, where every film starts to look exactly the same.

    8. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

That's both the second movie trailer this week that's a road trip film and also has a flashback to how the protagonist met his pet. Heh, small world.

  20. So, uh...what's going on with Pokemon?

  21. The Sonic franchise's four horsemen of fandom ascension

    1. Waveshocker Sigma

      Waveshocker Sigma

      Wait, who is Thomley?

    2. Milo

@Waveshocker Sigma Simon "Stealth" Thomley. He worked with Whitehead/Taxman on programming the Sonic 1/2 remasters and Mania (via his self-owned company Headcannon); he was also the one responsible for the "Vertebreaker" pitch on Kickstarter a week or so ago (although he recently had to cancel it due to lack of funds/interest).

    3. Waveshocker Sigma

      Waveshocker Sigma

Oh, that's his other name? I only know him as Stealth.

  22. It doesn’t look completely terrible now.

    1. Milo

A little bit of clarification: I think the first trailer unintentionally did a better job at showing the movie we’re actually going to get. But the second trailer does a much better job at selling the movie in a way where it looks watchable and kinda entertaining.

  23. For those who missed it last night, art topic update. Something new and something not-quite-as-new.

  24. Art topic update, I suppose.
