Yeah people will tell you the book is failing but honestly it's doing about as good as any other title. The Good thing is that this means we'll definitely see more Mini-Series in the future.

As for if the reboot started at #1 it'd still be going. I seriously doubt that. Archie's incompetence is what lost them the rights and even if they hadn't Archie seems to want to be making their flagship  books their main priority so they're not really interested in paying to use characters anymore.

Yeah I am gonna have to agree with SBR on the Archie Reboot. A new number 1 wouldn't have mattered. The reboot was poorly handled but it was mainly due to the circumstances that forced it to happen.  It would've needed to been a clean cut, toss out the old continuity all together and start fresh but that would have pissed off long time Archie fans immediately, Ian tried to salvage as much as he could and make it somewhat cohesive for the fans sake.  Also, Archie already shot themselves in the foot a long time ago with how they handled the comic. They stopped caring. They weren't promoting it, the editor or creatives were the only ones doing the promoting.

IDW has shown to be more behind the comic than Archie had.

So anyway , I would.love seeing more IDW characters, what type of characters do you guys want to see in the book?

I would like to see more villains but for characters other than Sonic. Like a personal rival/villain for Amy.  I'm sure that Tangle and Whisper will run into a threat that isn't just Eggman in their mini-series.

Even if Rob O’ was included, it’s more than likely he’ll barely be the same character anymore.

This! Which has been my main point since the beginning...do ANY of these characters feel like the characters people read, drew fan art of, wrote fan fics of, hell even loved?!
No...no they are not.  They may look the same, Penders may claim they are the same but if you actually look yourself, they are shells of the characters they were.  That's probably the most depressing thing out of all of this.  A guy who created these characters ended up bastardized them.

Thank You! Everyone always talks about how the Shattered World Crisis was bad but I honestly never saw it. It was honestly a pretty tightly woven arc.

Worlds Unite was the problem. They should have set that as a separate miniseries that didn't interrupt the main books.  Still take place within the time frame that it did but should have had a teaser at the end of one issue and a "Takes place after Worlds Unite" at the beginning of the next.

    Scott Fulop.

So far, we've not had an update since last year.

Unless you go by Penders usually "inside knowledge", then it's an open and shut case for Scott. An open and shut case that apparently takes a very long time and has no public records of any updates within the past year...

Ken Penders said that to save face and try make himself look like the misunderstood unsung hero. His “arrangements” would’ve involved literally getting more control than SEGA, forcing M25YL to be the canon future of the series, wishing to approve every single story that involved his characters in any way shape or form and other things that likely would’ve gotten the license ripped away from Archie even sooner than when it happened. It isn’t feasible, especially for some characters that were only good in Ian’s run of the book and likely only had a smaller fan base compared to the main cast.

Pretty much this.  Ken has proven himself to be just as manipulative as those he says are out to hurt him and his creativity.  Ken loves to play the victim and starts every argument saying that "Archie can use my characters anytime so as long as they pay me".  While that is a reasonable thing to ask and I agree Archie should have paid royalties to him and other creators, the major problem is there are various terms and conditions within that short statement that people seem to not realize and that are incredibly unreasonable.  He wanted editorial rights over what was done with his characters, overruling even Archie/Sega.  You can't do that with a licensed comic; any comic really that you didn't produce yourself.  He has even stated these conditions back when the lawsuit had just wrapped up.  He laid out a laundry list of rules that were laughable.

However, the major problem is that a lot of his fanbase chooses to ignore that he has ever said these things when he has gone on record about it.

Ken has finally released the first page of TLSC.

And, once again, we're back to using photo backgrounds.  You'd think that seven years of production time thus far would mean he'd be able to devote a bit of effort into the opening page, but I guess not.  It kind of works in the upper right panel (which I guess is why he just directly copy/pasted that frame in the bottom middle panel), but the bottom left one just looks like a sticker was pasted over the photo.  It barely even tries to blend in.

Speaking of the bottom left, we get our first look at Lara-Su's tattoo there.  And suddenly I have to wonder if this is a Sonic spinoff or an MLP spinoff, because even as someone who doesn't watch the show, I know that's exactly where they have their marks.

Also, there's a smudge in the right-hand margins.  May want to clean that up before finalizing it.

Wow this first page is just layered with the message "I can't believe they didn't give me Knuckles"...

here no, multiple othersites where she apparently ruined the comic, and a few discords i'm on. Yeah

But that's more so she "ruined" the comic by not being Sally.

How can one ruin the comic by only appearing in one issue though?  Then again how can one ruin the comic before said comic even comes out?  I try not to understand those types of people, it boggles the mind to no end...

...what is the purpose of this tweet?  Ken complaining that because of his strict regulations on storytelling, no one except him is willing to use the characters? I'm sorry you can't let any of your characters grow, develop and evolve beyond their 2 dimensional personalities  because you see it as other writers being "wasteful" of your creations.

Does ANY creator think like this?

It's not a weekly series, just the first 4 issues are.

Yeah I know. The first 4 issue story structure is planned as a weekly series though. I do think it was a bad move to release it two weeks early. It throws that planned structure out the window.

And before anyone quotes that Ryan guy (who is he?) again, see Mega Drive 1 and even Fleetway issue 1 for an example of how to make a good issue 1 story.

    Hi! That me!

Story structure is clearly going to be different from your examples since it was planned from the get-go as a weekly series. So I see it as a giant size #1 instead of a monthly comic structure. Thats all.  Plus I feel i saw some complaints about how Mega Drive #1 ended actually having a hook. So its going to be different person to person.

I guess I was being hasty in quoting Ryan Fair.

No worries. It literally never has happened till now. I was planning on getting involved with this board again after the issue released; guess this was a good start lol.

That's nice. Now how about you try addressing actual fucking criticisms in this thread instead of reposting something trying to invalidate any critique because "lol Sonic fans are never happy"

This book shouldn't get a free pass because it's a first issue. If you liked it, fine, but I'm not going to allow this crap to drag down this thread.

This was my tweet, wasn’t meant to bring any thread down. Didn’t expect such a reaction from posting my thoughts. Sorry if it became a headache for ya.

That said, don’t think I was invalidating ANY criticism brought to the book outside of those who are already hating it who A) Haven’t read it themselves or B ) for not being immediately “Archie Sonic 2.0”.

I'm not asking for "a masterwork of continuity and drama", I'm asking for, like...any kind of hook. The first issue should be working its ass off to draw the reader into it, but I really don't feel anything from this. The action feels flaccid, the tension is minimal, there's a weird amount of continuity/expected knowledge for a first issue (and it feels less like setup to be elaborated on later and more like "I sure hope you played Sonic Forces before reading this!"), and neither the mystery antagonist nor the mystery of the antagonist are compelling yet. It feels like it's exclusively for people who are already Sonic fans and are starved for Sonic content, and I'm not sold on its appeal or value outside of that.

Did we have a discussion last night? Just wanted to see if it was ya.

And now for another edition of Ken's Arbitrary Deadlines:

The TL-SC app is now slated for a March release.  Because having just missed yet another arbitrary deadline for it last month apparently still wasn't enough for him to realize he should just stop publicizing release windows.

Wow I can't possibly imagine why he would want it to release in March...a full month before another type of release...

And I seriously doubt he will hit that mark, he seems to be heavily invested in shooting The Republic right now.

I don't know whether Ken thinks he can just release the Knuckles collection without Sega's permission because he has copyright over the scripts and doesn't realize trademarks are a separate deal, or if he assumes Sega would happily agree to let him publish it.  (Or he's going for the "it'll be free, so it's fine" angle and is being extremely unclear about it again.)

Thank you. THANK YOU!!!! I woke up to that response and I just nearly rolled back over saying F it.

I’m not responding to him on it. He is impossible plus I’m getting responses from his latest fans which also seem to not understand.
