Ive also been busy playing and so haven't really had a chance to speak on them but overall?
It's Pokemon. I like Pokemon. Pokemon fun. SWSH fun

I kinda figured they were gonna go the hyperactive immature route because it's such an easy way to characterize a fast character despite Sonic himself bring chill and laid back and stopping to relax and take in the world. But there's no point in complaining about the movie Sonic not being like the games due to everything else. I'm just happy the design is good

This is a fair reading. I'll concede to this point.

Kind of, but Shadow only got involved to begin with to get Rouge out of a jam. You could argue that he was just following orders but I think it was earlier in this thread we were arguing the opposite case where he got involved to make sure Rouge was safe in the first place. It's at least up to interpretation.
I'd also argue that most of the times Shadow provokes Sonic in SA2 are completely unnecessary for the sake of his plan. The fact that he doesn't just fuck with him for the sake of it anymore is probably the most clear sign of growth. You're right that I was kinda glossing over a lot of Shadows older habits still being present in my last post, though.
Worth noting that I didn't have a problem with the original fight. There's some logistic issues with it but nothing wrong with how either character behaved.
"Cowards don't run" is just my only sticking point, as I feel like that whole sequence is surprisingly silly and short sighted of him. Rouge even points out that he normally listens to her if not Sonic.
Characters can make mistakes and have relapses, so if you wanted to read it that way then that's fair. I think it's a missed opportunity and sort of a sloppily handled way of taking him out of a story I wish he stayed in. It leans on OOC and reminds me of more extreme examples but it can also be read as just a hotheaded moment.
I'm gonna try not to argue about this plot point anymore since its been going on for too long, lol.

Tom is the typical boring white male character viewers can project onto like they always do in these kinds of movies. Less of a character more of an audience surrogate.
The trailer was much better, had so much more energy and I will be watching it less because I think it will be good and more as a message to send that when you listen to fan outcry (when it's warranted) and fake steps to rectify it, you get a better product. So I'll buy a ticket for the production team and Tyson who probably worked like hell to make this happen and not really for the movie itself lol

Yeah I definitely got the impression Ian kinda morphed Amy into Sally since he can't use her given her penchant for making plans and giving orders. Though it's less his fault and more Sega for giving her that role in Forces to begin with (technically Knuckles was the leader but he was very bad at it). Still overall like her character tbh least it shows some growth on her part rather than just be a hanger on for Sonic

As a primer for what to probably actually expect from Terry, he's almost always been explicitly a rushdown character. He has limited ways to damage you from a distance that aren't easily punishable, but if he gets close he usually can be played so he combos fast and hard. Because of that, there's a bit of prediction required of your opponent to use him most effectively; and he absolutely excels at corner trapping, so it will be interesting to see how he's adapted to a game where that is very rarely a thing. Most of his normal attacks are fast, several of them hit multiple times and can be comboed to each other.

Power Wave is usually slower than your typical Shoto fireball to come out even if the speed tends to be similar, and it's explicitly ground-based so much easier to dodge (SNK games in general made it a point to nerf and downplay fireballs, frequently even restricting them to super moves or limited distance). It's main use is as part of a combo rather than a move to zone opponents. It was also very rare that it went full screen.

Rising Tackle has almost always been an explicitly vertical anti-air, meaning it's ability to be flow-charted like Ken or Ryu's DP is extremely limited in comparison unless whatever attack you're countering is right next to you. It's also almost always a charge move, so you can't spam it nearly as much as them either; and frequently is most effective as a combo-ender instead of an attack by itself against a stationary opponent (since it also doesn't have that much invincibility).

Crackshoot has more horizontal motion and is usually workable as an anti-air, but can be punished way harder than any DP ever has been since it it very rarely has any invincibility and most of Terry's hitbox is exposed behind it.

Burn Knuckle is highly punishable if you try to use it from a great distance to attack (as opposed to using it to close space), needs to be timed tightly to work as an anti-air; but usually is fantastic as a combo-ender since it is easy to transition to and always knocks down.

Power Dunk is decent as anti-air if you time it perfect and has a decent amount of horizontal range, but it is also highly punishable and far more effective if you connect with it early on in the move as it's still going up. This is especially true in games where if you only connect on the lower part it does damage but also whiffs. Its main use is also as a combo-finisher, but it has quicker charge up and is generally more invincible at the start than Crack Shoot.

    (this move wasn't in CvS2 don't @ me)
Power Charge is a fast close range move that usually knocks a character up (but sometimes just pushes them back slightly and stuns), does basically no damage but is explicitly designed to allow a temp stun that you can combo/juggle into. This is the move you use to start a combo or link basic move combo into a special. If Terry's Rising Tackle is a DP motion in Smash like it was in KoF '96-'98 and this move is included as well, watch the fuck out.

Power Geyser is Terry's original super. It's a big fuck you attack that even back when SNK were assholes about input motions was easy and quick to use. Functionally it works very well as an anti-air making Terry very dangerous to jump in against when he has it charged, and it does a huge amount of damage whether you hit them on the ground or not. The higher power one hits three times, and has a lot (way more than the above GIF implies) horizontal movement that can hit all three times if timed correctly. Hugely punishable in some games since it comes out well in front of him, but also quick to come out and usually possible to combo into.

    ARE YOU OKAY!?

Very fast, very easy input, lots of horizontal motion, usable as an anti-air (though outside of Garou only half of the attack will hit in that case), usually can be comboed into. Not that much damage unless the entire thing hits, but a fantastically satisfying move to land which (other than KoF 2003) always feels very powerful:

So at the end of the day what does this mean for Smash?

Soniman reacted to Diogenes in Worst period for Sonic?
It's kinda more like, what periods have actually not been bad for Sonic. Whenever it manages to have a couple of good games it ends up shooting itself in the foot soon after.
If I had to pick a "worst", I'd have to say the mid-00's. I don't think anything has done more damage to the series than the one-two punch of Shadow and '06. By that point they had broken everything about 3D Sonic gameplay that had ever worked and made a complete joke out of the story and characters, and sometimes it feels like every bad decision since has been either directly or indirectly a response to that period.

Naugus, of all the DiC characters, I think would be a really fun addition to the main series. It also helps that he just outright hates Eggman, and I like that while he hates technology, he can turn Eggman's mechs against him with his crystal magic. Might also make for an interesting enemy of Knuckles (because lord knows he fucking needs something to do) with him trying to enhance his powers with the Master Emerald. Most of this is stuff reboot Archie already did so I'm basically saying--yes, just put him in as he already was there.
EDIT: I still want Sally and the others back too, and I already explained what I would like to see. In short, I don't really think making them a "freedom fighting" team is necessary for Sega universe and it only comes up because that's the only association they've had when I think there's more to them than that. Not to say that can't work, because as they already were in Archie, you really just have to sever their history with Sonic. I don't really care about "status," rotate them like everyone else, shit's not hard. I just want to see characters I like getting some new life breathed into them.

I forgot that someone transcribed my interview with him. (LOL I like how he keeps my "Umm's" and "Uh's" XD) That was a really good interview (for me. I've done some horrible ones). What disturbed me was the comment that if he came on board, he'd start right where he left off and ignore what's happened since he left. He once told me that he only considers his work canon and gave me an example that he also considers Stan Lee and Kirby's work on Fantastic Four canon  and anything after that doesn't matter. That's a horrible to think of a comic book that's a collaborative effort.

It's sad that it's come to this now because I think a good chunk of the early success of the book was due to him. I've been reading the legacy series and one of his first works Sonic #27-28 was actually a really good story that had a very SATAM feel to it. I think it's his love of the Knuckles world he created and had so much free reign on that was his downfall. He couldn't let it go. Even after the series was cancelled, he kept trying to write more echidna stories in the back of the comic but kids don't care about that. They want more Sonic. I think doing the second 25 years later is what finally did him in.

I think if the Knuckles series never existed, he might still be on the book. Then again, this is the same guy who reportedly wouldn't read issues he didn't write including when Bollers was writing every other issue. You can't keep good continuity doing that.
