Soniman got a reaction from charmsb in Do you think the Sonic series is kind of sexist?
I think the distinction between "this character as a female character has been handled poorly" vs "this character as a CHARACTER has been handled poorly" needs to be made
Suffice to say, no I don't think the Sonic series is particularly sexist towards the female characters, with the exception of maybe late Adventure-Dark Age era Amy being a marriage obsessed weirdo I don't really think they wrote the females particularly better or worse than the males. Especially nowadays when everyone is irrelevant regardless of gender, like Rouge has just as much agency as Knuckles currently, that being none so I don't really see it that way specifically

This sounds less like what anyone actually says and more like a conservative strawman of what a progressive person believes.
You're basically arguing against an exaggerated cartoon caricature, not an actual belief anyone holds.

I can't even think of how one could reasonably improve on Sonic 1/2 taxman, I don't even know why those just aren't the gold standard going forward because it's a lot less work for them to port anyway

I've been playing this game pretty much exclusively with button controls (not even because I especially dislike the motion controls because I definitely don't) but I went back to motion for one occasion and it was the Koloktos fight and to my glee it's STILL just as lit as I remember, coming after my favorite dungeon in the game and it's just a awesome experience, only wish he was a little harder.
Then I went back into the water, remember the horror of motion control swimming and immediately switched back lmao

The Switch is a massive success  sales wise and is sitting comfortably with its 5 year lead on the Deck. Nintendo doesn't have to actually worry about being outsold by this thing I'm sure.
Now reputation is another thing as after the OLED failing to impress this can't be a good look for them. Will be interested in seeing how they respond to a solid contender encroaching on their handheld territory

While it was indeed a rushed port, it was in part to how it was difficult to program for the console. So, retroactively, it is sort of a proof after all.
As for the whole Colors not running at 30 on Switch - I bet it's many different factors at play. The new lighting engine (or Godot in general) might be just unoptimized for the console, the team has a lack of experience with working on Switch ports, again, the difference between working on 1 SKU as a 1st party company and 4 as a 3rd party company looking at you people who love comparing this to SSHD and thinking it's valid when it's really not, the fact that they probably can't use the old lighting since it's apparently allegedly something proprietary and only works on Wii, the hardware still being too weak to make the game run at stable 60 (stable being the keyword here), etc.
I'm not excusing the company on not making the game run at 60, they definitely should've found better solutions, but saying that it's "baffling" to not having Colors run at 60 on a platform that can't even run most of the games at stable 30 only because "Skyward Sword HD can" (which I wouldn't be surprised if it has framerate drops as well) is disingenuous and shortsighted I feel like.

Frankly I'm not even sure why SSHD is even considered a worst of anything when it by and large does everything a remaster should do. 60fps, updated textures, various QOL improvements and control options. The price and the amibo feature are the only real strikes against it and one of those isn't even related to the game. Needless to say I think it's done better than Colors which had such a bad presentation out the gate for awhile before it finally got up to a presentable state.

To me this is a incredibly pointless distinction, it's QOL at the end of the day that improves the game, heck it improves the game significantly than a standard QOL update in most remasters because of how significant the hand holding feature was to SSHD OG. An improvement is an improvent, how "obvious" it was is irrelevant
Wasn't Fi and the hand holding nature the "real" faults to begin with? The thing they completely streamlined? Unless you mean the structure at that point what you're asking for isn't even a remaster it's a remake/reimagining, which is also what youre asking for...like...a remaster is just the original game cleaned up and brought on modern consoles, and like I said they pretty much did everything right SSHD. There's no graphical and audio fuckery like with the various remasters of old PS2 games (Ratchet, Sly and Jak and Daxter specifically), gave an alternative to the decisive motion controls, etc etc
I dunno when I just think of all the half ass remasters we got in the last decade, hell barely a year ago with the Mario Collection and that wack ass 4:3 emulated port of 64, that I can't really buy SSHD being an example is all just because it didn't do every single thing possible to "improve itself"
I like Colors but if I didn't none of the new stuff introduced would convince me to double dip. Ugly costumes and a Metal Sonic mode isn't what I enjoyed the game for its extra flourishes and that's all really.

In fact, didn't its online multiplayer die in 48 hours? That seems to the best rough estimate I can get out of its online reception. But lets be generous and say it died in 2 weeks. ASRT meanwhile I could still find active players in matchmaking past a year after its release. On PC (which yes is rather strange for a kart racer at the time). Heck the Steam statistics now show ASRT still holding up well even beyond TSR.
However what urks me is they had an easy formula to work with, and even arguably the better performing game in some respects. Crash Team Racing was a comparatively obscure brand and ran at 30FPS on all platforms, and didn't even get a PC release. Meanwhile TSR ran at 60FPS (except on the Switch IIRC?) and had a PC release. I'll give the lack of crossplay a pass as CTR didn't have it either and crossplay service middleware was still in its relative infancy, but here all they needed to do was some post launch support and some brand muscle. Add in a traditional race mode for the online multiplayer, throw in some new character from the franchise, obscure or whatever each month and hey you've got an instant hit that people are practically guaranteed to keep coming back to.
Instead the game got half a patch, the community managers complete inability to read the room (Aaron Webber's somewhat infamous "no this game has no on disc DLC" comment when asked what the DLC plans are), and then... nothing but joint pack-ins in an obvious attempt to artificially boost sales numbers? Meanwhile CTR did all that instead. This is about the closest I've ever seen of a video game giving another video game an absolute swirly.
