Wow, once again Sonic Forces manages to be exactly what I want and love AND exactly what I feared and hate at the same time.
Playing this game will be such a weird experience.

I really don't want to see the Sonic series go in this direction, and other Sonic fans don't either. Why can't we get GREAT 3D Sonic games and not "just okay" ones? I don't want to see Sonic become a boost2win blocky platforming fest  gameplay wise with shoe-horned in Classic Sonic. Sonic Team needs to take notes from Sonic Mania.

Mark1 got a reaction from Nina Cortex Jovahexeon in Sonic Forces - Shadow DLC and new Screenshot
Regarding the footage - feels very Colours like. Which is both good and bad.
A lot of what was shown was decent. But some of the 2D felt extensive after about half way into the video.
The Biolizard remix is amazing though. And it's good to see Shadow has some moves to separate him from Sonic.

One theory regarding Infinite's design and origins. Sonic Mania spoilers below:
    Your thoughts?

Well I'll say this much: if I choose to ignore everything else I know about the game, some parts of this almost look interesting.
Gameplay's still trash, Infinite's still an edgelord, there's still no hints as to how Classic Sonic fits into things, still not big on the avatar character, and I still don't like the tone they're going for, but at least a few moments actually land this time, even if just as out of context snippets.

It's quite normal for soft launches to happen in territories with relatively small populations. I guess it's kind of like a public beta, essentially.
For what it's worth, this game is absolutely fine as a little time sink. I'm not yet convinced that Sky Sanctuary will be in Forces though. GHZ in this game and Forces hardly reuses any of the assets from Generations. It's similar, but the assets are nearly all brand new. Sky Sanctuary in the other hand is directly lifted from Generations here.

Knuckles actually being the resistance leader seems incredibly out of character.
Unless that's the reason why they haven't beaten Eggman yet.

Is there any way to see the level design approach from the Mania team too? Even for comparisons sake with Sonic Team at least?
To this day no game in the franchise has done it better than Mania - they should really be doing this.
Nonetheless I'm keen to see Sonic Team teaching good level design for 2D and 3D Sonic. I do want to see more classic levels for Forces to really see if they justify a full presentation...

Mark1 reacted to Blue Blood in Does Sonic Mania Have the Definitive Classic Zone Selection? (Spoilers)
Well, Mania only covers themes, styles and tropes so well because the team obviously set out to do so. They pulled from previous games and built up ideas of their own to cover as many bases as possible. Chemical Plant lost its trademark water in act 2 for a totally reworked take on Wacky Workbench's bouncy floors, for example. Lava Reef could have been replaced with Marble - they could have reworked the second act into some sort of mining/excavation facility because why not. And what about Oil Ocean? Who even liked that zone in Sonic 2? Why bring it back? Because they had lot to work with and develop.
Mania's selection of levels is great, and I especially love that they didn't just stick to fan-favourites. Oil Ocean and Metallic Madness would never have got a look-in in any other gams. They just thought up bunch of stages with some differing themes, and decided to develop them with new and innovative ideas. Nothing was stopping them from going with different choices, and I don't think that Mania's level list is somehow "definitive". But they did do a really fucking good job.

Mark1 reacted to Celestia in Sonic Forces devs to teach what good level design is about
Boost isn't very complex at all. Hell, most of what makes it fun to people who do like it is how it's relatively simple, focused more on reaction time, brief shortcuts, and a more arcadey feel overall. I think developers of boost-style Sonic games could stand to embrace all that, even.
The issue is that these are supposed to be main installments, not spinoffs, and people have a standard for what a main Sonic game should involve. I'm a fan of the modern games but I feel the same way. If the boost had remained a side thing like the Rush titles I don't think anyone who dislikes it would have any reason to complain.

Potentially major one: Story wise, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are traveling together the entire time throughout the game. He confirmed this during the beginning of Mirage Saloon Act 1.

I can't believe parole are actually dense enough to blame this on the developers. Ultimately it's all SEGA's fault. This is the perfect way to breed resentment. And even if I did believe the "it's not intentional" thing, it's pretty bad to let a bug like that slip by following a two-week, platform specific delay.
