  1. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/divided-states-of-america/ I saw this Frontline documentary this week. I thought it weaved a nice story describing the development of division and partisanship in the past decade or so from the financial crisis, through Obama's campaigns and terms, and to the beginning of the Trump presidency. Some of the topics highlighted are the financial crisis and bailouts, healthcare, Obama's relationship with Congress, gun violence and control, and race relations. It also delves into the divisions within the Republican party, tracing the divide between establishment Republicans and eventual Tea Party/House Freedom Caucus members all the way back to John McCain choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate all the way back in 2008. They interview a ton of people such as Joe Biden, Timothy Geithner, Eric Cantor, John Boehner, Nancy Pelosi, Orrin Hatch, etc; they definitely use a ton of different voices to craft their story. If you have four hours to kill, I'd definitely recommend watching this; it was definitely a bit of an eye opener for me.
  2. officially done with my sophomore year of college!

  3. Apparently George Takei is running for David Nunes's Congress seat! (Sorry for the clickbaity title; this is the article on George Takei's Facebook page) http://the-daily.buzz/a/george-takei-has-bombshell-announcement-and-washington-is-reeling?utm_content=inf_10_1163_2&tse_id=INF_4ef68720165511e798fc7bd31dd7c3e2 Edit: never mind, it's April Fools: https://mobile.twitter.com/GeorgeTakei/status/848150976737542145
  4. Washington state is currently red in the NYT tracker. Have the votes from Seattle been counted yet or is there something else going on there?
  5. NYT currently placing the odds of a Trump win at >95% in their livetracker.
  6. Three more DNC officials have resigned in response to the DNC email leak: http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/08/03/us/politics/dnc-email-hack-hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders.html On the Republican side, Donald Trump has refused to endorse Paul Ryan and John McCain for the time being. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-refuses-to-endorse-paul-ryan-in-gop-primary-im-just-not-quite-there-yet/2016/08/02/1449f028-58e9-11e6-831d-0324760ca856_story.html Mike Pence, on the other hand, endorsed Ryan today. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2016/08/03/mike-pence-strongly-endorses-paul-ryan-as-trump-refuses-to-do-the-same/
  7. Yeah, I kind of cringed reading that bit. At this point, I'm kind of worried that the Democrats will screw this up massively and increase the chances of a Trump presidency. In other news, Trump is leading in these two polls, one by CNN, and the other by the LATimes: http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/25/politics/donald-trump-hillary-clinton-poll/index.html http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-pol-convention-bounce-20160725-snap-htmlstory.html This could be from a post convention bump, but I'm not sure if that's the entire story. I guess things will be a little more clear after the DNC.
  8. It definitely decreases my excitement for new releases, at the very least. However, different Sonic games feature things that I look for in the series, so I just turn to those when I feel like it.
  9. So apparently Obama's half brother is voting for Trump. This really has been an interesting week for the Democrats

  10. Debbie Wasserman Schultz is resigning after the DNC this week: http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/289026-democratic-national-committee-chairwoman-will-resign
  11. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/07/23/us/politics/dnc-emails-sanders-clinton.html So a bunch of DNC emails have been leaked. One of the bigger impacts this has had is bringing the DNC's impartiality during the primary into question. It's going to be interesting to see if this has any impact in the next couple of days, especially with he DNC coming up on Monday
  12. Overall, I'm pretty excited for Mania. I'm not sure how I feel about Project 2017 though. However, I'm very curious about it, so I guess the teaser served its purpose.

  13. IIRC, the first Generations gameplay trailer came out about a week after the teaser, so it's possible we won't have to wait that long to see the first bits of the game.
  14. The word resistance makes me a little optimistic for the fate of the other characters. I know it's complete speculation, but I feel like they'll have more of a role than glorified cheerleaders. In any case, I was pleasantly surprised by the presentation; the tone definitely seems different than Colors and Generations, which is something I can't complain about at all.
  15. All this hype reminds me of 2011. I honestly don't think I've been this excited for a Sonic game reveal since then

    1. Speeps

nobody took boom's reveal seriously because of knuckles' redesign lmao

    2. FriendBot

      I was hyped for 2014....

      Burnt Ash

I was as well, but 2011 was the year I really started getting back into Sonic games so Generations hype had a larger impact on me overall

I mean, yeah the buildup to Gens was pretty big but we got spoiled rich at the end and Gens wasn't even that big of game in terms of content.

  16. I saw the speeches by Dr. Alvarado and Scott Walker. I didn't really agree with the arguments Alvarado presented but I thought he delivered his speech pretty well. Scott Walker, on the other hand, has the rhetorical skills of a robot.
  17. My member title comes from Sonic in Sonic Riders. The "apparently not" bit is just something I added to reference my profile picture, which is decidedly not a good example of Sonic flying.
  18. I really wish I enjoyed Sonic and the Secret Rings. I love the story, music, characterization, etc. in Secret Rings, but I can't get past the gameplay and mission structure. I've tried finishing this game more than a few times, but the motion controls and lack of linear level progression has generally made me quit after a few hours. It's probably one of the few Sonic games I own that I haven't finished.
  19. Bernie Sanders is coming to my school tomorrow for a rally and naturally I cannot attend it because schedule conflicts
  20. Justice Antonin Scalia has passed away: http://gov.texas.gov/news/press-release/21960
  21. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-35468776 Cruz beats Trump in Iowa while Bernie and Hillary are essentially tied so far
  22. Happy birthday SSMB! I have loads of memories with this site, especially back when I joined in 2011 with all the Generations hype buzzing around. Nowadays, I mainly lurk around this place, but despite that, I still end up visiting it at least once a day, making it one of the sites I visit and love the most.
  23. Welp, just moved into college for my first year

  24. John Oliver always makes me laugh; this is a segment on his episode on DC Statehood:

    1. Celestia

      I love Last Week Tonight!

    2. Burnt Ash

      Burnt Ash

I wish I had HBO so I could watch it in full, but I always love the clips that are on the YouTube channel

  25. We used to watch a show called 'El Internado' in my Spanish class and I have just learned that it has arrived to Netflix USA which means that I now know what I'm going to do for the rest of the summer
