    Apart from the obvious?

I'm a big fan of music in general, I'm quite open-minded and listen to a lot of chillout, singer/songwriter and world music such as Zero 7, Nitin Sawhney, José Gonzalez, Imogen Heap and Sigur Rós to name some more famous examples. I also love soul and funk (Jamiroquai, Lighthouse Family, Miho Fukuhara) electronica, techno and trance, and some pop music from around the world, (Genki Rockets, Lovebugs, The Common Linnets, Basement Jaxx, Michael Jackson) and I have to include people like Crush 40, Dreams Come True, and Bentley Jones (Lee Brotherton) as well of course!

I'm an avid traveller. I've been to Japan 6 times, Norway 3 times, several other places in the USA and western Europe and I'm working on seeing the smaller, lesser known corners of Europe. In 2015 I went to Slovenia, (formerly part of Yugoslavia.) My dream destination is Iceland. Farthest I've been from home is Guam, an island between Japan and Hawaii.

My favourite game franchises besides Sonic are OutRun, Ace Attorney, Pokemon, Super Hang-On, Road Rash, Street Fighter, Virtua Fighter, Mario, Mortal Kombat (the classics) and Super Smash Bros.

About Me

Hi! I haven't updated this thing or posted on SSMB in yeeeaarrrs but here goes...

I'm BenCG, from Hertfordshire in the UK. Previously known under handles like Rio or BenTH or BlueRush or Blaze the Echidna, depending on how far back you go. I've been a Sonic fan from the very beginning when I was just 3 years old. From 2001-2005 I ran an MSN Group called Ben's Sonic the Hedgehog Messenger Club, (BSTHMC for short.) Were you a member? Please get in touch, for old time's sake! <3 During that time I ran somewhat short-lived sprite comics like Sonic World Advance (SWA) and Girl Power, which shone a spotlight on Mobius' female heroes. I was also an active member of the STC-O forum community from then until I think 2008-ish.

I have a 100% attendance record at all the Summer of Sonic conventions and they've been some of the happiest days of my life! In 2011 I co-organised the unofficial Summer of Sonic pre-party in London. I'm still very proud of it and flattered that people have talked to me about it 5 years later saying they'd love another one! At Summer of Sonic 2016 I was holding up number 38 in The Sonic Show's countdown video! I was a runner-up in SEGA's EU Super Fan Competition in 2016. Sadly, I haven't been active in the online Sonic community for many years, but I went to a lot of the Sonic London meet-ups for a while and I've still got loads of wonderful friends that I really want to see more of.

Over the past couple of years I branded myself semi-professionally as "Blaclite Studios" and tried to build on this during my University years, where I designed a short game in Unity3D called "Moonbeam" and took part in a Creative Talent Showcase, Business Boot Camp and a sort of Dragons Den style competition.

These days I run a YouTube channel focused on my world travels, life vlogs, music recommendations, gaming/Sonic stuff, and perhaps in the future I'll tie in my little pool of creative work in game design. I'm running the YouTube channel basically because I feel like I've got a bit of a split personality crisis when it comes to my online life, my interests and hobbies, and the different themes associated with them - and I decided I wanted to unify them under a single brand which I can use to try and start building up a network of wonderful people like you, share my experiences, trips abroad, thoughts and basically just be a bit of a social pterodactyl.

Aside from Sonic, I'm into Eurovision, (despite it's questionable reputation,) and I make an annual satirical review of the contest entries inspired by Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe, but I'm not like Terry 'ignorance is bliss' Wogan, I do it properly. Check them out here if you fancy a giggle. I'm also part of the Eurovision betting community where I share in depth analysis and debate on sites like ESCTips or Sofabet while we all attempt to make a tidy profit from the contest which demands so much of our attention every winter and spring.
