I sure as hell hope they're still doing an on stage conference as well as this digital one. I can understand not doing one last year, but right now Nintendo needs all the attention it can get with what seems to be an amazing amount of games coming to the Wii U. I wanna hear the reaction from the crowd!

Also, while the Direct last year was pretty good, I felt it would've been so much more effective had it been on stage. Just imagine what the crowd's reaction would have been like when Megaman appeared in SSB4!

I'd like to address some of the issues surrounding the member requested events on the forums as of late. These issues do not have to be taken care of for the current events but are instead aimed towards making future ones more organized and less of a hassle for those involved. This topic isn't a request for member run events - simply guidelines for ones in the future.   These events have been started by members and the progression of the them fall on your shoulders, not those of the moderation. I've already had several complaints of the staff effectively having to run the show and this is not tolerable. We are here to help you make sure it runs smoothly - not do your work for you. If you request an event like this then you will be expected to honour it after it has commenced.   You do not get to set your own time slot if we have something already planned. These events will not overlap and preferably will have a break between them; having to deal with back to back events can be draining for members in the long run and makes them feel repetitive.   If you are going to be out for a period of time and will not be able to do your scheduled routine, provide the information for those days to a second party involved. You committed to the event - we're not sitting around for a week waiting for you. If the event goes two days without a response then we will continue the event for the remainder of the time slot or end it early depending on the circumstances.   Don't be so damn sensitive about feedback. Every action I do here meets criticism both negative and positive - the same will happen for your event. Ensure your skin is thick enough to take the heat.   Do you desire that your event has badges/awards? Sure, but you're the one making them and providing them to us! 40x40 pixels please and ensure that they're submitted within five days of the beginning of your event. Also note that you'll be the one managing the member IDs who get each award.   Please direct requests for these events to an administrator and not a moderator. The moderation will be made aware of the request if it's approved and can decide to help out if need be. Any requests sent directly to a moderator without a CC to an administrator will not be considered under any circumstances.

Day 11 - Most Frustrating Moment

Corrupted Save File - EVERY FUCKING TIME IT HAPPENS

Corrupted save files. ... Ugh. I sincerely hope I'm one of the very few if not the only one here who's had to experience this bullshit multiple times on multiple games. Drives me fucking insane.

Let's recall the first time this happened - I was about eight or nine years old, playing the PS2 Spider-Man movie game in my room. My mom was getting upset at me because I was late for dinner or some shit, I dunno, and so she'd been yelling at me to turn the game off for a few minutes. I was in the middle of a level and really wanted to finish, and promised I'd turn it off as soon as I finish the level. I was true to my word, and was saving the game after the level so I could go do whatever she wanted me to do.

Evidently, though, she had gotten tired of waiting. She storms into the room, really frustrated about it for some reason, and before I can stop her briskly walks over to the PS2 and shuts it off. I had no idea what would happen at the time, but I told her about how the game says you're not supposed to turn it off while saving. She didn't care and said it didn't matter, and I brushed it off and went about my day.

Later that night, I sat back down to play again, only to find out that every time I tried to load the game, it'd fail and say my file was corrupt. I had no idea what was happening and started panicking and loading in over and over, with no idea what could have possibly gone wrong.

... And then it hit me.

Wow, so that was pretty devastating. Was doing a New Game Plus run of it as well, so I had already unlocked just about everything and was replaying for fun. At the time though, I was a kid, so losing progress on a game even if you'd beaten sucked really bad, because there was practically nothing else to play for months at a time. Wasn't even my fault, either. Sucks.

    And then it happened again.

Not the exact same scenario, of course. This was a few years later. I was playing Kingdom Hearts II while my cousin was over - a NG+ completion run, grinded up to lvl 100 and with somewhere around 80 - 100 hours clocked in. He wanted to play DBZ, so I told him I'd save the game and then we can switch to DBZ. He huddles around the console as I hit the save button. He sees it, says "okay finally", and ejects the disk. I jump up and tell him to put that shit back in immediately, but by the time he did it was too late. The game froze. I reset, tried to access my file just to check, and sure enough... gone.

Yep. Twice I've had this shit happen because of my family being dumb.

Oh sorry did I say twice?

    I meant three times.

Several years later. I think I was fifteen or so at the time. I was playing The World Ends With You over Spring Break, first playthrough. Was thoroughly enjoying it at about 12-15 hours in, which was pretty much exactly the halfway point in the story. Another of my cousins, a bit older than the one I mentioned before (I think at this point he was 11 or 12), asked to play the game. I saw no harm in it, and so I started a new save file for him and let him play on my DS while I went to do other stuff. After all, I made sure to give him a new file to play on, and he's old enough not to fuck things up.

Haha. Ha. Ha. Mm. Well. Somehow, I don't know how, he managed to do exactly that. He gives me back my DS and said he finished playing, and I just pocketed it and kept watching TV or whatever. After leaving his house though, I opened up the game to play on the long car trip home. His file was there in perfect shape (didn't even bother getting through the opening cinematics...), but mine was, of course, corrupt as shit.

At that point, I just thought to myself I should have expected it. I don't know how my family even manages to use electronics without burning their houses down. I really don't.

You can, of course, feel free to write about any moment involving a game in any way. Could be something in the game that pissed you off like an annoying enemy or boss, or something that happened in real life. Go wild with this one.

    Here's a classic frustration for any collectathon fan;

    [

When you're collecting stuff in a level and you're missing some of them after you think you're done

Ooh, does this ever get on my goat. I spend all that time looking around for items and stuff, checking and rechecking my tracks to make sure I've got everything, and then it turns out that you still missed some despite this because the game feels like being a dick or something. The worst is when there's just one left, so you think it should be easy to find. But nope, you spend forever playing and replaying the level only to find that it still cannot be found no matter how hard you look. All that aggravation, frustration and pain, all because there's...

    just one left.

Day 11: Most Frustrating (if this happens one more god damn time, this whole world will Feel. My. Wrath) Moment

So imagine having a sleepover with some of your friends. You guys are having a fun time, playing GameCube games, eating Sour Patch Kids long into the night. The game garnering the most time: Super Smash Bros Melee. After a long while we all start to get tired and slowly drift to sleep.

This was how I left it. This was how I remembered it while I was drifting to sleep. But when I woke up, you know what I saw?

"So what's wrong here?" some of you may ask. Well, all the data I had unlocked is gone. Apparently while I was asleep one of my friend's buddies (who I still don't talk to this day) decided it would be "hysterical" if he deleted all my saves off my memory card. I don't think I've ever went off as hard as I did that morning on him. I didn't hit him but I honestly can't remember a time where words just flew so fast out of my mouth with pure hate. My friends didn't even try to defend him nor stop me. He was actually the only one who didn't game all that much so he didn't know how severe it actually was at the time. They knew he had fucked up royally.

Of course my friends tried to help me out afterwards by copying some of their save files over to my card but it really was never the same. All those hours recorded and trophies collected up to that point... it was my file and I can never get it back. To this day I never even consider bringing a memory card, hard drive, nor console over somewhere unless I know exactly who I'm with can be trusted.

I'm going to split this one into two: The most frustrating segment of a game and the most frustrating moment I've had while playing a game.

    Day 11:
Covering Emma (No Kills) (Metal Gear Solid 2)

If you just stick to the PSG1, this part is merely tedious but if you want to go for a no kill run, it's complete bullshit.  The tranq gun only holds 5 bullets at a time and has a low firerate so you have to be super extra precise.  You also have to switch between the PSG1 and PSG1-T when changing between targeting cyphers and soldiers, which readjusts your aim and resets your zoom.  Oh, and you have to pop a Pentazemin every five fucking seconds as if this wasn't irritating enough.  And when you run out of ammo or pills, you have to zoom out and grab some more, zoom in and get reoriented with your new perspective.

And the design of this segment itself is just awful.  Whenever a soldier capable of spotting Emma comes into view, you have about a two second window to take him down before he summons his friends and you instantly have four people shooting the target you're supposed to protect.  I can learn the position and moment where he comes into view and have my aim completely at the ready as he appears and I still have a hard time taking him out before he spots Emma (at least with tranq bullets).  Also those fucking cyphers replace destroyed ones after about twenty seconds, which I wouldn't mind if it weren't for the fact they come back completely silently and basically instakill Emma as a consequence of not noticing them.  Thankfully Snake comes around towards the end to help you but after the bullshit I just put up with I could have done without the "here's how a pro does it" spiel.

And all of these problems I could tolerate if this part wasn't so goddamn long and had some goddamn checkpoints.

The Most Inopportune Blackout Of My Life (Paper Mario: TTYD)

So in Paper Mario 2, you might remember the pit of 100 trials, a gauntlet of fights each harder than the last.  It's the kind of challenge you take up when you feel the last boss isn't hard enough and want to prove your absolute mastery of the game.  Getting the bottom is no cakewalk- it took at least an hour and it only gets more stressful considering that the further you make it the more you have to lose.  But then I finally reached the very bottom where I was greeted by Bonetail, the hardest boss in the game.  I was so excited to finally reach this guy and I managed to get him down to half health when suddenly...

    ...

    God is dead.

DAY 11 - MOST FRUSTRATING MOMENT - I'M TIRED OF YOUr SHIT MAN C'MON

Dying right after you beat a boss. Holy Fucking Shit.

I remember it clear as day. I was on my Gamecube, playing Sonic Heroes. After beating all the other storylines, Team Chaotix's was the last one. I made it to the Egg Emperor. I took him on. After dying a couple of times, I managed to get knocked off a cliff. I was in flying formation though, and managed to bring myself level with the ground. He was in range. I hit him, and he was defeated.

Palms sweaty, I breathed a sigh of relief.

My jubilation quickly turned to horror as the camera switched back to the Chaotix and I watched them plummet into the abyss. The screen faded out and the fight restarted.

I'm done. I can't. This has happened to me other times, too. This right here, though... This is the best example I can think of. Frustration and anger.

I quit playing for a while after that.

    Most Frustrating Moment

    Bullshit like this.

You know those moments where you're cruising along with the game, having a good time then suddenly, BAM.  There's a fucking toll gate blocking your path and they're demanding that you complete some meaningless quest, or find some useless shit in order for you to pass.

One thing some developers need to know right off the bat is that a longer game doesn't necessarily mean it's a better game.  Sonic Unleashed pulled this shit with the medal collecting, Darksiders II is literally nothing but this, The Legend of Zelda pulls this shit a lot too.  It's annoying to have all of your progress halted just to "collect 3 of this random irrelevant item", or to "find 30 of this", etc.  It's stupid, unnecessary, and a complete waste of time.

Will the game be shorter without this garbage?  Yes, but I'd prefer it if the developers invested their time into something that doesn't waste ours.

ANY TIME YOU DIE AND HAVE TO REWATCH TEN MINUTES OF CUTSCENES BECAUSE SOMEONE THOUGHT THAT PUTTING IN A SKIP BUTTON WOULD HAVE BEEN TOO MUCH WORK BECAUSE THE GAME DEVELOPERS HATE YOU AND WANT YOU TO DIE AND NOT HAVE FUN BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS AWFUL AND WHY??????????????

    *pant*

    YEAH

So why is the image I'm using for this one a poorly-done self-made Gimp edit of Final Fantasy X's box art?

Because Final Fantasy X is the

    WORST

    DAMN

    OFFENDER

See those two bosses up there? Pretty tough. Genuinely so, I'd say. All in all, very cool boss fights.

But both of them also share another interesting attribute.

They are preceded by long, story-heavy cutscenes. These cutscenes are also some of the better ones in the game. They're quite fun to watch, oh, the first time through.

The second time, it's kind of annoying.

The third time, you kind of want to die.

The fourth time, you start to ponder why the game developers would opt to curse you so.

The fifth, sixth, seventh and so on times sort of bleed into each other as you cry hot tears of desperate agony, praying that this time, something will give, that you will either finally defeat this boss or that...that somehow, you will find a way to skip the cutscene and not endure the frustration one more time.

    And the game only replies

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H47ow4_Cmk0

    with irreverent, maniacal laughter

Actually, you know what? Mm. Mm. I think I'll go ahead and list Final Fantasy X's entire final sequence as my personal most frustrating moment. Before an incredibly brutal boss preceded by a brutally long cutscene, you are forced to collect crystals in a nauseating rotating camera room, and you don't get to save afterward. Meaning that if you die? You have to repeat everything over again. Not just the boss. Not just the cutscene, but this weird awful rotating room with icicles that pop out of the ground and force you into enemy encounters BECAUSE THAT'S FUN I GUESS.

    HONESTLY WHAT WERE THEY THINKING????

I do enjoy Final Fantasy X, don't get me wrong, but I also find it very...flawed, and I'd say these are the flaws that happen to bug me the most. Of course, the main point I'm trying to make is, unskippable cutscenes are awful and everyone who puts them in a video game should feel bad.

    Really

    REALLY

Oh man my favourite game would have to be this:

This game really means a lot to me. From the stunning visuals, to the fantastic music, right down to the story. Everything about it is just great. You play as a robed figure who needs to get to the mountain in the far distance. Throughout your Journey you will learn about the world around you, and discover truly beautiful places. It's even better if you play with a friend for the whole way through because it makes it that much more special. I was practically crying by the end. It's that spectacular.

Place reacted to RustyRick in "Sonic Dissected" Dissected: (LEGO) Sonic Dimensions As You Truly Imagined It
I honestly think this has gone a bit too far in terms of what can be considered 'constructive criticism' and just taking everything one person says and using it as ammo fodder for more potshots against said person.

Roger himself clearly referred to this whole topic with one phrase, a 'merry little hate club' in a tone not meant to offend anyone in any real serious way, yet now it has been made the new title for this topic altogether? Please people, if Roger was seriously trying to talk bad about this, he'd mention it in a far more cynical tone like 'A merry little hate club solely devoted to blasting the ever-loving matter out of me.' He proceeded to give valid reasons as to why he actually admits his Dissected video's have flaws and invites you guys openly to contact him about it.

Yet furthermore, the actual goal of this topic has been wildly swinging back and forth, and rarely in it's initial goal. It was created to give valid counterreasons to Roger and Luke's own opinions, yet as Rusty Spy pointed it out, it hardly amounted to anything like that from the get-go, and most of the posts felt more like people using these opinions more as a excuse to take potshots at Roger himself and how he's so wrong in every conceivable way, than it were to actually give him some constructive and insightful feedback.

Really, can you blame him for this response when most of the posts were pretty much that?

And finally, the man posted both on this topic in person and in the latest Dissected video (right after the now notorious phrase might I add) for people to contact him about various opinions and even invite you to appear in his show, yet now people over here are a big fuzz about how they weren't attacking him at all in the first place, when it really felt like it. Urgh, this topic gives me a headache.

Bottom line is, please stop taking everything the man says out of context and make a big deal out of it. He really is just giving his two cents here and trying to be nice and constructive, not out to make you guys angry and furious.

    DAY 1: MOST NOSTALGIC GAME

My first console game, Namco Museum Volume 3.
(actually my first console game was hot shots golf 3 but *we don't talk about that*)

This game is a compilation of six classic Namco arcade titles; Ms. Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Galaxian, Phozon, Pole Position II, and The Tower of Druaga. It probably has the best assortment of the five (six if you count the JP-exclusive Namco Museum Encore) installments released during the PS1s lifespan, and as a result has become increasingly rare.

If you've played any of the PS1 Museum games, you know that there's one thing that sets them apart from other similar counterparts. I'm talking about the always super-great Museum Mode.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruPJa5WBK4U

The Museum Mode is a first-person romp through this sprawling honest-to-goshdangodon Namco-themed museum. Each of the six games on the disc is given its own exhibit within the museum, where you can learn up on the history of the games as well as look as merchandising, promotional material, everything right down to the *damned circuit boards* is available for viewing here. The Museum Mode as a whole is just this tremendous labor of love and the awesome mystery developers who made it happen must have been really, REALLY passionate about these games. Damn, what happened to that...enthusiasm?

Also this game has just got a really awesome soundtrack. Listen to the whole thing if you can, it's as if it were specifically tailored to be nostalgic.
