Wow, bro. Anyone with a brain could tell you that quality holds precedence over quantity. You have a ton of viewers because people are apalled by the shit you say. You get tons of comments per story because your stories push the limits of decency that have long been established within this community. You are convinced that any attention--good or bad--is worth having, which may as well be true given how it's one of the most basic economic principles known to man... and that's totally fine. But then don't go parading yourself around like you're a good person (moral backbone indeed, holy shit), like your content is superior to that of other sites (I laughed), or like you having "more hits" than Sonic Stadium actually has any bearing on the positive reception of your web site. It does not.

Wow, are we making conspiracies now?

Let me spell it out for you--your staff members left because they are tired of your shit. Maybe that should be a wake up call that people don't like the way you do shit, aren't going to start liking the way you do shit, and aren't even going to entertain you with the idea of a return until you get off your high horse and stop stirring shit among a community centered around a god damned blue hedgehog. I don't know how I can make this any clearer.

People on this forum and on Retro make fun of you with these little filters and signatures because you have made some of the absolutely dumbest ass choices in the history of this entire sect of the internet. This is supplemented by the fact that you continuously perceive yourself as being able to do no wrong and that all of your actions are infallible. I mean, the fact that you made a story about Retro "shutting down" despite literally every admin telling you it wasn't should be proof enough of this.

I can interact with you to a large extent and maybe even call you a friend, but I hope by this point you're aware that I'm not going to pull any punches. You're a decent guy down there--you really are. But notice the very clear trend that people did not start disliking you en masse until you started doing this shit on a broad scale. Maybe you're right and you've been doing this shit since 2000, but that doesn't make it right, and it doesn't mean that kind of shit is relevant now.

Do you want a positive course of action? Take all of these viewers that you've amassed from reporting on internet drama and just keep them. And overwhelm them with legitimately, solid content that absolutely blows their mind and gives them a newfound respect for your talent, dedication, and hard work. Prove all of those people wrong when they say you're a talentless fuck with no respect for anyone else or their personal boundaries. Do all of these things and be the better person. I know that concept is overrated, but in this case it's extremely relevant.

I don't know, man. I can write walls of text all day, and I swear I have written this wall of text before. But for fucks sake, man, listen. I ain't trying to destroy your site, I ain't trying to order 15 pizzas to your house, and I'm not trying to destroy your life. I just want to help you and this community out in the best way I can. And this is the key to sorting out a lot of animosity. There is literally no downside to that kind of course of action... so why is it so hard for you to go through with it?

I am Sonic Retro... or, well, about half of it. You should start talking to the right people.

Don't patronize me. If you want to be treated with respect, you should learn to respect the people you decide to use as a crutch for your own controversial decisions.

The lack of online play is the reason I'm not buying the game; I'm not rich, and I don't have any of these fancy new nextgen systems and the like, so the PC version is the only one I have to look forward to. Unfortunately, that functionality is being alienated from that version of the game... and just because people are going to pirate it? No shit! When you choose to develop and release a professional game, you automatically acknowledge and accept the inevitability that people will pirate it. On the flip side, though, for every person who pirates it, you have about a hundred people buying it. It's a bullshit excuse. The console versions of the game are getting pirated just as much, if not more, because they actually have online play in them. A bit of an oversight on your part, maybe?

I totally accept this; in fact, I am in full support of your plight to discourage piracy of the game! That's why I'm absolutely flabbergasted that you had the gall to point at my website and use it as an example. Why don't you point to all the scene groups or the individuals actually cracking your copy protection in the first place? Why would you choose to go out of your way to namedrop a website that is actively removing links to pirated version of the game? That's completely unacceptable! You've got a lot of nerve. You can bet there's a ton of people here pirating the game too--why aren't you calling them out? I can't even believe you did that.

First off, we do get to talk to the people behind the Sonic games--on a regular basis, even! On the very website you decided to slander in your ignorance, we have a plethora of SEGA employees who regularly interact with us and are happy to answer our questions, because we showed them the basic respect that you absolutely failed to show our website when throwing accusations around. Respect is a two-way street; the very second you failed to show it to our website, you opened yourself up for the same kind of slap in the face you gave me the second I read your comment. If you want your userbase to respect you, then learn to respect them first. Otherwise, I don't care what game you've worked on--I don't want to talk to you.

If you don't see anything wrong with what you've done, then there's a serious problem here. The least you could do is apologize for being completely wrong.

"Exact same thing"? You mean... talk to someone? It's not Brad's problem and certainly not my own if someone perceives a firm, no-bullshit tone as "condescending." It also doesn't make his point even remotely valid.

The only thing "extreme" about my post was taking his snarky, arrogant attitude and slapping him right back in the face with it. Even then, I wouldn't call it "extreme" as much as "well-deserved."

The only reason I had to snap at you was because I didn't like your ridiculous, douchey attitude and generalizations of an entire community based on whatever arbitrary, elitist guidelines you pulled out of your ass. You're not exempt to being called out as a douche just because you think other people are being douchey.

Nobody called anyone an idiot until they started acting like one. Trying to refute an extremely valid point about the community as a whole to combat the rampant, blatantly incorrect claims otherwise on the basis of it being a "strawman"--something that did absolutely nothing to actually devalue the validity of the point whatsoever--was overwhelmingly ignorant and the main cause for most of us putting our two cents into this thread. The number of people trying to claim that the community is somehow majorly different than it was nearly 20 years ago based on completely arbitrary factors is ridiculous; we wanted to clear the air here with some trufax, but people seem more interested in being "right" than actually observing the facts and getting a bit of perspective. It's embarrassing.

My ass! I read the topics--it was just as bad here, if not worse, in terms of how people conducted themselves. Not like any of that matters--it's just people expressing their opinions about a game and other people, for some reason, being unable to respect other peoples' completely subjective views about a game, good or bad, and separate that from their own opinions and objective fact. That's a problem with discussion forums on the whole. It's not limited to Sonic Retro, Sonic Stadium or any other Sonic-based community.

There is no objective point to which complaints are either "good" or "bad"--they are what they are. Again, the only issue is that people cannot separate their own subjective views from objective fact, nor can they respect other peoples' opinions for whatever reason.

    waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

This trend of people making hard correlations between "dirty" language and the validity of a post's content is getting really, really old. You know what that is? It's called ad hominem. The way I express my point and your dislike of it does not affect my point in any way whatsoever. Your laughable attacks on my credibility based on the fact that I don't sugar-coat my language hold absolutely no water. Try again, bro.

    EDIT: MORE STUFF I GUESS

    Ain't no shit, brah.

Except you're completely ignoring that the 05/09 confusion isn't important--the point is, SS has been around since what is widely considered to be the very early, early origins of the online Sonic scene; as such, she has seen this same exact behavior over the years with the release of no specific game affecting the extent to which people rage or do not rage. It is a completely irrelevant factor; her seniority in the scene gives her the advantage of having seen this behavior exist firsthand for years, and public record of years in the scene even before that concretely support this.

In most cases, you'd be right--join date or post count has nothing to do with a person's intelligence or ability to make a point. It is a factor when you're trying to argue that Shadow the Hedgehog had some sort of polarizing effect on peoples attitudes in the community (it didn't).

I'd try and tackle the rest of your point, but it seems to be based very strongly on your perception and emotional response to events you were directly involved in at whatever point in time that lead you to the impression that certain games have had a more significant effect than others in terms of how people act on the whole in the community. I can understand that position--it's easy to look at things objectively when you've been involved in them--but in terms of the big picture, it simply isn't true. People have acted this way since the very first posts on alt.fan.sonic-hedgehog in 1990--quite literally the beginning of the Sonic online fandom as a whole. Time and the quality of the games--something that will always be completely subjective--has not and shows no indication of changing that.

Are you retarded? You're the one acting like a high and mighty douche here. I don't know what makes you think you're better than everyone else here and somehow exempt to your own flawed and ignorant judgement, but come the fuck off it. There was absolutely nothing wrong with what Scarred Sun said--join dates were absolutely relevant in the point being made--and the only reason Brad replied the way he did is because despite "understanding the point," people were still throwing around words like "strawman" in reference to the basis for the argument. The only misrepresentation of his position in that case was a join date of 09 as opposed to his alleged 2005 join date, which despite being wrong does not invalidate the point being made--that she has been around a lot longer and has more perspective with which to accurately judge the actions of the community over the years. Pointing out that it was a strawman was completely pointless because it didn't change that fact; if anything, it appeared pretentious.

But you... you're a piece of work, sticking your nose into issues that don't concern you with blanket statements about an entire forum. That makes you look super fucking cool. I wish I could be just like you when I grow up!

This thread is stupid. None of you goons have been around long enough to know what the past was like and your opinions on the fanbase are all painted by the outsiders looking in who get on their blogs, yelling "hurr durr Sonic community."

Get on the Internet with any other group of people. You're going to encounter the same issues. Large group of people -> many opinions -> disagreement. Go check it out. It's pretty cool, bro. The issues are just magnified with stupidity in the Sonic community because most of you guys are, like, in your teens and the games aren't performing very well.

This thread should have ended here:

This is adorably ignorant. I see you have...a 09 registration date? Even if I give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you've been around since Shadow the Hedgehog was discussed?

Well, see, I remember when everyone whined over Ryan Drummond's voice acting in Sonic Adventure and how ~horrible~ Sonic Adventure 2 was.

And if we want to get REALLY old-school, I'd be happy to bring up the Usenet posts raging over Sonic 3.

Slingerland's absolutely right--you are only parroting what a few people think the ways of the Internet are. Hint: They're making fun of you guys. Disregard them. It's time to close the thread. If you would, moderators?
