It's not. You're confusing it with the (justified) hate that the game.com version gets.

Because the level design is bland (and constantly repeated), the controls are very floaty and the ring gimmick doesn't work well at all.

The graphics are ugly and at times hard to even discern from one another, and ironically it has by worst pinball physics of any of the Genny titles (even inferior than Sonic CD, usually; though there are situations where CD is even worse). The sound driver for the music is pretty bad too, even if the compositions themselves are good.

No. It's hated because it is a puzzle game that happens to have some poor design choices and really screwy controls.

Except the fact that it is basically a glorified minigame. You can recreate it pretty much in its entirety by playing Sonic Chaos and choosing Tails.

Then they probably shouldn't have made the graphics that way.

Everything else doesn't get any "hate," and calling them "underrated" is really just you misusing the term to mean "stop not liking what I like."

Amuro got a reaction from Alex2Beta in Which Sonic character(s) do you want in Super Smash Bros. 4?
Personally, I think the only one who should be in Smash 4 representing the Sonic series should be Sonic. Smash Bros. is a Nintendo fighter, and I don't think Nintendo should oversaturate the character roster with Sonic characters (or Sega characters in general for that matter) unless it was intentional (Nintendo vs. Sega, anyone?). And I'm going to contradict myself right now by saying that the suggestion of putting Dr. Eggman in sounds like a good idea. It wasn't until Melee where you got to fight as heroes AND villains rather than being restricted to just a handful of Nintendo's most popular heroes. Smash Bros. only has like two or three playable villains that people actually care about, it would be cool to see one more. Especially if it's a villain as over-the-top as Eggman. Besides, there's quite a number of possibilities for Eggman's moveset. From his weapons in boss battles, to his skill set from Chronicles, there's a lot to draw from. Not to mention the choices in alternative costumes. Eggman Nega, AoSTH Robotnik, hell even the EggRobo would be a cool skin to give Eggman (provided Nintendo doesn't do what they did in Brawl and only give Wario an actual alternate costume).

And, I do like Shadow, but his appearance in Brawl was pretty lame. I agree that his Assist Trophy was rather crap.

I know what this is. It's just that you find a better understanding sometimes when you look at yourself through other mediums and relate it to this. My point in bringing up Toonami and Thundercats was to show how the old things can make others reminiscence and how the new isn't worst than the old by default in the same way that Sonic does for his fans.

Well it's not a matter of the quality of the games, at least concerning this topic. It's more about the look.

Now frankly, people must have their nostalgia goggles cutting off the circulation to their heads if they think that a design choice will change things for the better from a visual standpoint. But at the same time, that doesn't mean people can't want what they had in the days of the old. The problem for that tho, is that there are those who enjoy some of the elements of the now, including many older fans who've been with the series since the beginning who prefer the newer look over the older one. So they can't exactly get that very easily if it looks like what they're wanting is being done to replace that of what others want.

Some people know that and would very much encourage Sonic Team to give these fans the middle finger and throw away the newer elements just so their group of fans can enjoy the series while the others are forced to like what they like or gtfo. Those who try to hybridize the two designs are seeking ways to bring two groups of fans into one whole group...of course, to whatever success they have, there are still some downsides to doing that. Now if you were to ask me, I would very much prefer to keep the modern design, but would see no problems in letting the classic fans have their taste of their preferences. I'd favor things more side-by-side instead of throwing away one just because you don't want to see it again, or because you don't like others enjoying it.

I loved Unleashed as a whole, and I find the Werehog horribly underrated. Then again, when I was a kid, I would wonder what Sonic would be like as a werewolf, so come to your own conclusions. (inb4 YOU CURSED US ALL!!!!!!!!11one)

I found the original version of CD vastly overrated. I recently downloaded the Xbox Live version, and while it's really good (miles better than the wonky physics of the original game), I still find CD as it is really overrated. It's good, I just like 3&K more.

I have a Sonic fan-character. ...I think that statement speaks for itself. Although, I haven't pulled the "my character is the brother/sister/father/son/clone of ______" yet, so I think I'm a slightly better writer than most Sonic fan-fiction writers. ...my character also isn't overpowered as hell, so I guess there's that.
